The 3DS will definitely sell over 150k. PS3 slim at 300$ sold 150k and we know that Japan is handheld oriented.
PS3 had games. Not to mention the fact that it didn't have to worry about a tough competitor with hardware that trumps it in almost every possibly way coming a few months later.

We are talking about this week not a few months from now. The PSP is the 3DS`s competition not the Vita. Also as you said games sell consoles, it will be no different fot the Vita. I wonder which will be more appealing the 3DS at 15000 yen with a catalog of games or the Vita at 25000 yen which will be lacking those games. That is unless you think the Vita will magically sell when it goes into it`s dryspell.

Hah, if it wasn't for the west, Sony could ride out the PSP for another 2 years.

Hey wasn't it Sony who basically said their fanbase is so stupid that the first million PS3s would sell without any games?

Thankfully the fans did prove them wrong.

I think you're underestimating the power of hype. 3DS will sell 80-100k that week, most likely.

So if the 3DS is expected to move 100K plus pieces of HW next week is anyone expecting some released software to get a boost?

Surely people won't just pick up a 3DS and nothing with it.

One piece Zelda and Nintendo all are running commercials. One peice just released the new manga set, so of the third parties it should see the biggest boost.

Also I'm noticing in real life stores and on web site stores that 3ds game prices are going up(aka from clearance 2500-3000 to more normal prices)

I don`t recall mentioning sales, or even what I think the 3DS might sell. So, I do think you quoted the wrong person.

This is BurntPork we're talking about here.

Though I do think that PS3 having a larger back catalog of games when the price cut hit makes it different from the 3DS' price cut. People might be interested in a title here or there but not enough to buy the system, but after a while that interest builds up and a price cut can tap into that.

This next one was just a testing whim that actually ended up pretty interesting. Thanks to Wii Sports and Wii Play being so big, Wii's first month of software puts up a mighty fight against everything released in the following twelve months.

150k is an insane baseline. There's no way it'll sell that much with its current software line-up. It could be cut to 10k yen and it would still struggle to sell that much. I also doubt that Pokemon will sell even half that much, since it's just a low-budget spin-off.

Judging predictions of others without having posted yours doesn't say much. You'll eat crow for Pokemon.

Your pre-emptive damage control is getting out of hand. 150k seems pretty reasonable.
A month and a half of sales in one week due to a 40% price drop on a system with no games? Not a snowball's chance in hell. I'm thinking 100k, give or take, with it leveling off at 40-45k per week after that. Nintendo has just screwed up too much for a price drop to fix everything on it's own. It'll get out of bomb status, but that's it.

Okay then.

[3DS] Hardware (Nintendo) - 95k
[3DS] Pokemon Rumble Blast (Pokemon Co.) - 50k
[PSP] Monster Hunter Diary: Pokapoka Felyne G (Capcom) - 85k

I'm giving Pokemon a bit of a break since it's so huge in Japan. I don't see a spin-off like this being a hit, though.

There's no doubt that the pricedrop will bump sales to a high level, the question is if the effect lasts untll Mario and Mario Kart are released and if those two titles are enough to carry the system well into 2012. Also you're looking at the European/US offerings for the 3DS, note that in Japan Star Fox, Tales of the Abyss, Layton and a couple of other games are already released.

Anyway I'll play

I read an article that said used 3DS sales jumped after the announcement. That might affect how much it sells next week.

That's because the price of used unites dropped after the price drop announcement.

True, but i think he mean that since people buy it used, this will affect the new unit sales. This will be the case, but the question is how much it will affect the new unit sales. People could get a 3DS for aroun 15k yen like 2 weeks before the official pricedrop.

Ah, I know what he meant. I was just telling him why if he didn't know.

Obviously people buying cheap used 3DS to get the free downloadable games. I don't think it will affect at all the sales of the new units, unless we are talking a used price of less than 13k yens.

OK. Think I got the super groups stuff in working order. Since it involved at least a little bit of change for everything that previously used groups, there's more potential for me to have screwed something up, but hey.

Relative to launch, 3DS was behind PSP in first party software, but looks like Zelda (and Star Fox) have helped make up for the Hot Shots gap.
PSP

Of course these guys are some of the most incomplete, since it's much easier for their software to miss the Top 30/100/1000.
