I think one of the problems is that currently neither PS4 or Switch have a kids base that is substantial so it may be a few years.
Yes, Busters 2 could possibly still be a 3DS game (though why wouldn't they announce the platform then?), but I was talking more about the IP in general. At some point it'll obviously land on Switch and then my post still stands. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Level 5 tried to bring its kids games to PS4 as well. They can't stay on 3DS for forever, migrating entirely to smartphones isn't much of an option (yet) considering their lack of success on those platforms so far and I'm not getting the impression that Hino was super confident in Switch's success pre-launch.

So, why not experiment with bringing Yokai, Inazuma and the likes to PS4 and look what happens? Not exclusively, of course, but in addition to Switch and maybe mobile and 3DS.

(Busters 2 is totally going to be 3DS/mobile, though)

Level 5 tried and failed hard on Vita. I'm sure they'll give PS4 a try too but I doubt it goes much better.

Level5 should just eat shit.
At least the downloadable puzzles for Layton MJ are still pretty fun and now I don't have to get mad at bad storytelling anymore since there's no more story.

Has Level 5 mentioned Megaton Musashi (the robot cross media project thing) since it was announced?

Is the story in Layton Mystery Journey really that awful or does it still have that kinda hilarious scooby-doo on steroid feel the previous entries have?

No, but it's par for the course for Level 5.

They can't even port the first Yo-kai Watch on mobile, and you're expecting YWB2 to be multiplat Mobile/ 3DS? And an action game where touch control don't make sense, to boot.

Remember when Code Vein was announced and Bandai Namco kept its platforms a secret? Only for it to be announced for the obvious platforms a month later? Japanese developers tend to be weird like that.

Though I suppose it's possible that Level 5 is trying to throw a Switch port of Busters 2 together quickly to profit of its current success. Not betting on it, though.

Good to see Atelier on the Switch. Nice that it's getting some good 3rd party announcements recently. Hopefully more stuff starts to move over in the coming months.

And I don't really understand announcing YW Busters 2 without any platforms, but okay. I don't see it doing nearly as well as the original regardless.

Well we do know they have Switch dev kits but what they are making who knows. I mean I think there is a chance it'll be cross gen but the game will be based more on 3DS assets.

I think getting a Switch game out for the holidays would be interesting, but I'm just going to assume it's a 3DS exclusive game.

They announced a port of the first game last year, but it has since disappeared.

It's pretty awful because it's the opposite of satisfying. There are 12 chapters in the game, each being a sort of stand alone mystery case. It all sort of "comes together" at the end.

(Sorry for hijacking this thread!)

Here's why I think it's bad:

- Out of the 12, 4 are harmless fun misunderstandings/heartwarming stories which are kinda cute but ultimately still a waste of investigation time/effort.

- The other 8 are pretty offensive to me because they are all about rich powerful people who are either complicit or masterminds behind abuses of power that result in a HUGE waste of public time and resources or outright illegal activities, but get handwaved away as "harmless" acts because they were done for the "right reasons" (arguable).

- There are a ton of puzzles but they are all lower quality than the rest of the series. Easier, less satisfying to solve.

- None of the stories have anything close to the scale and imagination of the previous Layton games with Layton in them. The game doesn't even address the nature of the talking dog or the disappearance of Layton himself other than a tease in the prologue. It's NEVER a part of the actual story. Lame bait and switch.

Bad bad bad.

Yo-kai Watch Busters don't play like the mainline Yo-kai Watch games. It's an action game.

Just wondering but what's the difference between Yokai Watch and Yokai Watch Busters?
Yo-kai Watch (1, 2, 3): semi-turn based RPG, where you collect Yo-kai and battle with them.
Yo-kai Watch Busters: action game (that originally started as a multiplayer mode in Yo-kai Wath 2), where you go beat up a bunch of Yo-kai (including giant bosses and all) with friends.

I'm 100% sure that YWB2 is 3DS only. It's the sequel of a spin-off game started on 3DS. They aren't going to make the transition to Switch with that kind of game.
I expect a December release for this one.

Oh, forgot to mention. Yo-kai Watch Busters 2 hasn't been announced anywhere. What we have is early leaks from a magazine (presumably CoroCoro, Famitsu has never had Yo-kai Watch scoops, which makes sense since CoroCoro is one of the partners for the series), so it's either:

- leaked scan don't show the platform
- it's just a teaser, with the actual reveal coming next month

Level-5 is yet to announce anything, so it's no wonder we're missing key details here.

And as we all learned in the past few years (I know, I've been there myself with EOV and DGS2), lack of platform at announcement doesn't mean much. It's not like the Switch is a super secret thing you need to stfu about or you get the nintenjas sent after you.

As LordKano said, YWB2 is most likely a 3DS-only, and I'd add it's definitely releasing alongside the 4th movie in December.

From tech point I watched the trailers and I don't see how Ever Oasis looks better than Lost Sphear. Not that Lost Sphear will be some kind of sales hit that will make Ever Oasis worth the extra investment porting it to Switch.
hm, the resolution and IQ are a lot better, but the animations look bottom tier. Monster design, level/map design looks bad on Lost Sphyer as well, like rpg maker. Not that Ever Oasis is a knockout, but still.

And the Lost Sphyer comparison wasn't about sales. I don't expect it do anything. It was just to show that a lower looking quality game "can exist" for lack of a better phrase.

Yeah, been playing it for a while, and while it does oozes with charm, I really wouldn't say that Ever Oasis forte is graphics. Not sure I'd compare it with Lost Sphear, the two games aren't similar enough for that (not even the same perspective).

Besides, fairly certain Ever Oasis uses the same engine as OoT3D and MM3D, porting to Switch wouldn't really be straightforward.
oh, I dunno anything about how the engine works.

Not sure why so many Japanese games are announced without platforms being confirmed.
Seems like the first thing you should let customers know.
Though, at least for L5, I think they announce games without even knowing where to put them like Yokai Watch

L~A posted above that it wasn't officially announced, just leaked early by a magazine.

So... With Nintendo doing its next marketing event- I mean, Nintendo World Championships 2017 on October 7th. Will we still be getting a Nintendo Direct before that? Assuming there are any third party games to announce.

Or maybe there won't be and we'll be waiting for January 2018 for third party games for Switch to be announced on a Nintendo Direct.

I know there's first party games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to get a release date but I think that will get its own Nintendo Direct just like XC X and maybe they'll also announce limited edition versions of the game.

Isn't Nintendo World Championship an NoA event? Is there any evidence of Nintendo caring enough to time software releases in conjunction to NoA's shenanigans?

Whatever gets announced at the NWC could take away from needing a Nintendo Direct for it.

Again, I could see game specific Nintendo Directs happening for Fire Emblem Musou, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Super Mario Odyssey.

But having a Nintendo Direct for new first party game announcements this year feels unlikely when NWC is happening.

I know there's still indie games and third party games but I can't really think of anything big yet to be announced that Nintendo would have a Nintendo Direct for it.

Ah, so not really, just a game that was finally released in the Americas and a showing of a game a few days before E3.

I don't think they have ever really coordinated the release or preview of a game with the NWC, rather if there is something around that time they might get permission to show it a few days earlier. NWC is an NoA event, the few that have happened have never been announced or talked about in Japan, and they are so unknown that there isn't even a wikipedia entry for it in Japanese. If they are announcing something, they would most certainly do a Direct so that Japan doesn't get excluded from the announcement, even if it is shown a day or two before at the NWC.

It would be weird if no new games were announced for NWC.

Yes, the Japanese didn't have to know about it in 2015 since Nintendo's E3 Direct happened a couple of days later.

This NWC though is happening in October. Were NoA just sitting on their advertising budget and decided to blow it all on a glorified advertisement disguised as a championship? I mean, it is but if no new games get announced, did they even need to do a NWC?

I'm a bit biased against NoA and do not think they have made good decisions or spent money wisely in many years. That said, I do think it is possible that Nintendo will do a pre-holiday Direct which *might* show something new, and it is possible that NoA gets a jump on that and shows something at the NWC. However, I don't think NoA will show anything at NWC that won't soon be or hasn't already been shown in Japan. That would be rather unprecedented and show a form of leadership that hasn't been exhibited by NoA in many years.

NoA is a powerless and visionless shell simply used to advertise, translate and publish, I don't think it is in Reggie to do anything more.

Wouldn't showing off new releases specifically in the west during a western event account as advertising?

Yeah, that would be advertising, I also said that's what they could do, but if they do advertise they are building their schedule around Nintendo, not Nintendo building their schedule around NoA.

NoA simply does not have the pull to ask Nintendo to prepare something for the event that Nintendo wasn't already planning on showing off around that same time period anyway.

Capcom confirmed that Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney was coming to the 3DS, out on November 22nd in Japan. There will be a retail version in that region (2 990 Yen + taxes, so not full price), but also a Collector's Edition (3 990 Yen + taxes), and an Ace Attorney 1 ~ 6 Collection (that includes the Best Price! edition of the games... ha ha, couldn't even include a non-fugly box version).

They even have a super expensive LE, sold 150 000 Yen. Yup, that's not a typo, didn't add an extra 0. But it's e-Capcom exclusive, and they need a specific number of orders at all.

http://www.4gamer.net/games/390/G039057/20170809071/

It's all for the 15th Anniversary of the series.

I can't help but laugh at such a pricey edtiotion featuring a "best price" boxart in it. Like they couldn't spare the little cash for a non shitty cover?
