Yo-kai Watch?
Koei's anceint slg ports always sell low but they keep making them for some reason. It doesn't really have much bearing on the "state of 3DS 3rd party potential" much like pointing to Gal*Gun wouldn't make a compelling argument for doing the same on PS4/Vita.See, when I talked about 3DS 3rd parties and bombing last thread(yeah yeah I know I had the wrong impression), that's the kinda numbers I had in mind. For new titles I mean.
I'm assuming this is more on Koei's side though.

I wonder if they'll bother trying a PS4 Taiko?
I think they will, the DQ franchise will draw some of the "family" audience to PS4.sörine;175138947 said:I wonder if they'll bother trying a PS4 Taiko?

Nobunagas Ambition DS was originally a Nintendo DS remake of the eighth title in the series, called Nobunagas Ambition: Tales of the Storms. In addition to the eleven scenarios that were in the DS version, the 3DS game will add two more. Heres the catch: its titled Nobunagas Ambition 2.
...
Meanwhile, to make things even more confusing, the upcoming 3DS title, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2, is actually a remake of Romance of the Three Kingdoms III, which was originally released for PC, Mega Drive, and the Super NES
Taiko's future will be NX no doubt but I wonder what they'll do between then and now. They tend to do handheld releases in summer and console in winter, will they do PS4 this year ir go back to Wii U? Will we see another 3DS outing after this semi-dissapointing Vita debut or will they try Vita again? It seems, wherever it goes, Taiko still get legs. I don't know if it'll obtain to reach around 200,000, but 150,000-200,000 sounds like a reasonable range for the game (especially when digital sales are counted).
I think you're right. I get the feeling we'll see the first (and maybe last) PS4 Taiko this holiday. I also feel like they're done with Wii U and probably Vita after this.I think they will, the DQ franchise will draw some of the "family" audience to PS4.

I hope wer get complete new IPs from the Zelda EAD team and Retro Studios.... I really hope they follow up Splatoon with having their Top Teams working on new NX IPs.sörine;175137771 said:Splatoon's perfotmance is really stunning. If Nintendo's smart Zelda won't be the only Wii U port they prep for NX launch.
So, what will Splatoon teach Nintendo about its future plans?
- Release a game and then release free content the following months/weeks?
- Give the young designers a chance?
- Squids are cool?

one year ago, no one would believe the Wii U would be ahead 2014 at the same point considering there would be none of the usual sequels to boost numbers like in 2014.
and now here we are with Splatoon on track to pass MK8 if things keep up.
I agree and I expect EAD Tokyo to apply this model to Mario NX. I think we'll finally see online multiplayer too.Given the success of Mario Kart, Smash, and Splatoon despite the install base challenges, I'd imagine their main takeaway would be that adopting the ever popular service model for their multiplayer titles was the correct choice and appeals heavily to their core audience.
Someone tell Ubisoft so they can stop wasting their time with Yokai. They'll make a squid based WiiU title. The only choice, really.
In fact, at this point, everyone should simply drop all their projects and make squid based games for the WiiU.

Splatoon has nearly outsold the combined total of Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Yoshi's Woolly World.

I would have to look at the previous threads but I meant game not franchise.
I missed this, is this discussed somewhere?Retro... is possible if they really are under EAD now.
I don't think "New IPs are the key to success" would be my takeaway from Splatoon.
It's a game that:
-Entered a popular genre that Nintendo was lacking in.
-Was respectful and cognizant of what made the genre successful.
-Brought a variety of new ideas to the table that actually worked well with the genre's strengths instead of conflicting with them.
-Used a business model and support structure that was both growingly popular and well liked by fans of the genre.
It doesn't matter if a new game is branded as Zelda or Swordtopia. What matters is that the core product is actually appealing, has a clearly defined target audience, has reasons to play it instead of just buying other products, and meets or exceeds the expectations of the audience in terms of support and content.

Also, this makes me wonder what could be the next genre Nintendo will try to hit with its own take. We had Pikmin back in 2001 (RTS), Splatoon now (Shooter)...MOBA, maybe?
Yeah, that's what I meant. The original Yo-kai watch opened really low, but went on to sell well over a million by getting consistent amounts (often small boosts) every week.
