Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2013 (Aug 26 - Sep 01)

Vita apparently didnot have a new price cut.

I never said it had a new price cut. But it had one earlier this year, which I was hoping would sustain the system for the rest of the year and get some developers on board with it.

This shows that my hopes were unfounded.

Sony aren't blind, they will have something up their sleeve at TGS that can at least help Vita in Japan.

This is all Sony has "up their sleeve", their "master plan", their "secret game":

[PS3/PSV] TLoH Sen no Kiseki
[PS3/PSV] Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate
[PS3/PSV] Soccer Tsuku: Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou!
[PS3/PSV] Samurai Warriors 2 with Moushouden & Empires HD
[PS3/PSV] Gundam Breaker
[PS3/PSV] Akiba's Trip
[PSP/PSV] God Eater 2
[PS3/PSV] Dynasty Warriors 8 Moushouden
[PS3/PSV] New Atelier Rorona
[PS3/PSV] Shin Gundam Musou
[PS3/PSV] Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD
[PS3/PSV] J Stars Victory Vs
[PS3/PSV] Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd

And when the PS4 is released Vita will "get" the same games in the form of Remote Play. =P

Heard that before so many times!!!

I would expect a very similar showing to last year: more PS3/Vita multiplats from Namco and Tecmo, a few more titles from various niche publishers like MMV, and nothing at all from SE, Capcom, or Konami beyond possible F2P mobile ports.

Toukiden 2 would be the closest thing to a major exclusive that I could plausibly see being announced.

Following up our TGS discussion from the last thread, Capcom has made their first TGS announcement.

Monster Hunter Smart (iOS):

It looks a bit more like normal Monster Hunter than their previous mobile fare.

Japanese games market is dead until next-gen consoles arrive. And if even they sell badly then it is totally dead, no questions asked.

Japan is a handheld nation now. It has been trending this way for awhile now.

I'm still shocked that Vita hasn't done well here.

Both VITA and Wii U had such a poor show case this week. VITA is going to be slayed once MH 4 hits 3DS.

The increase in PS3 sales might be attributed to Jojo and FF XIV, both did really well. I am kinda glad to see the sales of FF XIV since Yoshida worked hard to turn it around and deserves success for it.

9th September is going to shape the future of console gaming in Japan. The ball is now in Sony's court and depends on whether they wanna resurrect console gaming in Japan or not. If they are serious, they will likely announce games aimed at Japanese crowd and PS4 launch at the 9th September conference and release the PS4 in Japan this Holiday(December).

Given that nearly all of PSP's best-selling franchises are absent from the platform (GE being the main exception), why should anyone be shocked?

Japan is a handheld nation now. It has been trending this way for awhile now.

I'm still shocked that Vita hasn't done well here.

Well, the 3DS can do the things that PSP could that the DS couldn't, which hurt a lot, and the new transition is to phones, which the Vita is not.

The Vita's graphics also aren't a compelling selling point for the average Japanese consumer. Once we hit a bit below PS2 level, most of the audience seems fine.

Since you asked for it, let's do it again. These are all Famitsu numbers. PS1 vs PS2 vs PS3, first party games bolded, cutoff point at 664k:

This shows that my hopes were unfounded.

It was half a year ago, its a miracle its effect lasted so long without games -_-

Tis true.

I didn't say that it was a logical hope, but then again, I keep hoping that Sony cares enough to actually put some AAA effort behind the system. Then again, they rarely did for the PSP.

Given that nearly all of PSP's best-selling franchises are absent from the platform (GE being the main exception), why should anyone be shocked?

I am just surprised that Sony has not put more effort into reviving the platform, like blocking Capcom from MH4 exclusivity on 3DS, getting their A-list developers to develop for the system, etc.

I am firmly in the 3DS camp, I am just amazed that Sony hasn't pulled out all the stops. As someone stated downthread, it may be that Japanese gamers simply don't care about the better specs in the Vita.

Yeah pretty much the whole thread was confused, but um, maybe more Japanese consumers like it better this way?

It's apparently designed to be played with just one hand. Which probably means that it looks more complex than it actually is; at least I don't have a clue how you are supposed to both control and attack with a character if you are limited to pretty much a single finger. .

Perhaps it's kind of like Phantom Hourglass, but like, more Monster Hunter-y.

When was the last week with a Nintendo-less top 3? I mean without a game running on a Nintendo machine.

Tap Tap Tap Tap and the game plays itself, probably

Why is the best manga series ever in last place?

On-topic: I wonder how much The Wonderful 101 managed to sell in Europe? Knowing the popularity of the Wii U there, it's probably even worse :(

This is probably Platinum's best game (giving Bayonetta a run for its money), but it's probably going to be the lowest selling of their games.(Madworld at least managed to sell 600k eventually).

Nobody remembers this when talking about fighting games:

And people wonder why Gundam games don't come to the West. =P

When was the last week with a Nintendo-less top 3? I mean without a game running on a Nintendo machine.

Yeah. I really don't remembered that. I will put on the list.

well its a game that sells 10 million world wide. no fighting game can touch that. not even street fighter. teken 3 might have been at that ballpark.

From SF2 Wikipedia page:

The video game console ports to the Super NES and Sega Genesis sold more than 14 million copies, and it remains Capcom's best-selling consumer game of all time.[3]

And that only including the Snes and Genesis games.

Street Fighter 2 might have ended up in that range if there weren't so many followup editions. SF2 Turbo came out like a year after the original on SNES. Smash had a whole generation to itself. The 3 SF2 games on SNES totaled to 12M sales.

And that only including the Snes and Genesis games.

That includes Champion's Edition/Turbo and Super Street Fighter 2. About 80% of that was on SNES. Street Fighter wasn't nearly as big on Genesis.

I would be interested to see N64, GC, Wii and DS as well for a reference. pretty please!

N64: #1 is Mario Kart 64 with 1,711,661. Top 5 are all million sellers, #10 sold 848k (DK64), #17 sold 601k (Zelda MM), #20 sold 470k (Mario Golf 64), #22 sold 405k (Bangoo Kazooie). Top22 are all Nintendo titles, first third party title on the list is Powerful Pro Baseball 2000 from Konami at #23 selling 323k.

GC: Only one million seller - Smash Brothers DX at 1,349,418. #10 is Pikmin with 507,011. #15 is Paper Mario RPG at 409,600. #16 is the first third party title Naruto 3 at 404,951.

Wii: #1 is NSMB with 4,559,027. The rest of the top5 all sold over 3 million each. #6 to #9 all sold over 2 million. #10 is Mario Party 8 with 1,468,804. First third party game is Monster Hunter Tri at #12 with 1,077,273. Last million seller on the list is Mario Galaxy 2 at #14 with 1,012,632. Next third party game is Taiko Wii at #20 with 658,783.

If you narrow down some conditions, I can probably do a chart comparison. But it's mostly going to be Nintendo titles. Lol.
