Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Didn't some of those games sell more with a budget rerelease?

Well, I excluded budget releases because I thought we were talking about only original releases.
Well, the Minna no Selection Rereleases

[WII] Muramasa: The Demon Blade [Everyone's Recommendation Selection] (Marvelous Entertainment) - 8.025 / 29.823 / 26,91% 25/02/10
[WII] Arc Rise Fantasia [Everyone's Recommendation Selection] (Marvelous Entertainment) - 2.400 / 13.420 / 17,88% 25/02/10

Was wondering why Spirit Tracks started being higher toward the end, and then I remembered the price bomba it had. :)
I remember some huge price cuts 60-70% already from first month. You can find it new for less that 2000 yen now. That's the reason Nintendo was very careful with Ocarina 3D shipments.

It looks Nintendo hasn't forgotten the overshipment of first Galaxy too. Besides amazon that preorders are closed for now some retailers also complain for low first shipments of Mario 3D Land.

I hope they'll increase the first shipment...I'm starting having a feeling that 3D Land could do more than every other 3D Mario due to its heavy 2D basis.

A question for Japan-GAF: Are there many original Wii in the shops now?

This week the number of Wii sold is bigger than the number of Wii Sports Resort. It seemed odd, but I don't live there so I prefer to ask.

I second that question but for Wiis in general. Is there a big amount at retailers or Nintendo is trying to empty the channels in preparation of the new model? It seems weird some people bought the old SKU.

You aren't asking this, but there is an absurd absurd amount of used units at basically every store.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

This is probably also true for every other current gen system (ds,psp,ps3,360)... right ?

Again this is all anecdotal but:

PS3's/ psp/ 3ds still seem to go through the channels quickly enough that I don't see a huge back-pile of used systems.

used 360's are difficult to find except at select shops

What about DS ones?

I think it will also beat all MMV titles besides some Harvest Moon if it really sold out all 60k copies first week?

1*: [NDS] The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo) {2007.06.23} - 288.282 / 902.386
2*: [NDS] The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo) {2009.12.23} - 320.940 / 725.904
3*: [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo) {2011.06.16} - 182.998 / 381.016
So OOT has done pretty decent considering it was a near launch title, low install base, and a remake instead of something new. Its late legs are impressive.

well, we know they fucked up with initial pricing, but now it seems to be doing just fine. Although, DS didn't really take off until DS Lite was released. I believe the change of slope after week 64 is coincident with Lite launch? I wonder if a new 3DS model will have a similar effect (or perhaps more)

The DS was sold/selling out prior to the DS lite due to Brain Age 2, I believe. That slope increase I believe came from massive amounts of new stock from the DS Lite being released.

The graph goes through June 2005. You can see the jump due to Nintendogs where it crosses the Wii's line. DSLite was March 2006...

You couldn't have been following the Media-Create threads much if you think the DS only took off after DS Lite in a Media-Create thread. The DS hit its highest number on the very first model. I remember thinking the DS Lite announcement was WAY too soon because of the way DS Phat has sold during the holiday.

I think that's because it coincides with holidays, since the slope decreases again afterward until after week 64.

fake edit: OK, I checked release dates. DS Lite was released exactly 1 year and three months after DS, 64 weeks, that is.

It was big, but if the 3DS slope doesn't change from what it is now, it won't reach DS. Holiday dales can't change the slope much. (It would be 20-25ish, considering several holidays)

Am I dreaming or is Japan sales-age back in full force ? :p

I am expecially curious this week about Senran Kagura's sales and the momentum in 3DS sales. If we get a 60k-ish number again, then it would be fair to think that 3DS will behave the same way as DS did 6 years ago.

No news about new shipments for Senran Kagura ?

There are almost no real sales-agers (nowadays even the so called sales-experts here have an agenda). Just a bunch of people who come in to wank if their favorite company is in a good position. When Nintendo is struggling these threads barely reach 150 postings.

I miss the old sales-age here..

That's because sales are boring when Nintendo is "struggling", fanboys from all sides will agree to that.

Basically this, great post. Occasionally you find a great analysis from duckroll or someone else, and Chris is good offering raw data. But the old sales age was much more interesting to read in general.

Watching obnoxious console warriors acting like they sold personally all those units is pretty boring, and quite sad.

That's rather unfair to a lot of the regular people who post in these threads. What exactly is "old sales-age" exactly? It's really the same group of people. Sometimes we post more, sometimes we post less.

Even in the old days, there would be months of down time where there isn't much informative discussion or real debates about the industry or sales trends. Why? Because there's nothing happening, or the releases are boring/predictable, or there are no worthwhile comparisons to be made.

There are a lot of interesting releases coming out in the next few months, and I think that we'll have a lot of room for solid discussions which will drown out the drive-by "fuck yeah" posters. But if there isn't much to talk about, it can't be helped really.

eh, i remember when media-create threads would hit 50-75 posts and those would be considered big threads. the ds vs psp stuff is what ballooned these threads to 400+ posts each week (and later, more). the 'sales-age' of 2005-2008 or 2009 or whenever you stop 'old sales-age' was born out of extreme fanboy war stuff.

I remember when Vinnk got married. The thread got so big it reached 50 pages or so

But yeah, prior to 2005, Media Create Famitsu threads were rather small to say the least. It actually all began with Jump Super Stars and before that with the launch of the DS. Everybody wanted to see back then if the PSP would take the handheld crown from Nintendo or not.
