With the new politic from Nintendo about marketing only when it's the time for release, i don't think the bundles are being marketed at all.

But you can make a case that when you have sales as low as 5k normally, only the hardcore are buying and likely know about them. I don't know, probably is an excuse.

I think the bundles will sell better because they're a much better product for almost the same price. If Nintendo is not marketing enough, when they starts, it's only going to get even lower.

For comparison:

Abyss 3D - 74,173 / 145,626
Symphonia HD - 77.228 / ?

PS3 games are very front loaded, so Abyss 3D is probably the winner here.
And yet, Namco-Bandai keeps ignoring the 3DS, even though Abyss did as well as a HD port of 2 games (not just one), and with a userbase much smaller than the PS3 (it was released during the crap months of the 3DS, back in June 2011).

Seriously, I have no idea why they haven't made a new ToS game on 3DS, even a port.

One possible Reason i can think of is because they feel their Fan base is not on 3DS.

Namco knows their fan base are on PlayStation systems (consoles in general by the looks of their vita excursions failure's )

Perhaps they feel that despite the big install base their games would not sell well and therefore do not see it as a viable or worthwhile venture to put it on 3DS .

They have similarly neglected the PS3 early in the gen. It took them years to figure out that that's actually the platform with the most reliable audience for their games.Tales Of.

I think they have a mode toggle between "scrambling around trying different platforms in the completely wrong order" and "staying on the platform that works". Currently they are in phase 2 it seems.

I could easily see a ground up tales game for 3ds doing 300k+ (or 200k for a good remake) but Namco have been pretty clueless when it come to where to release them for years

But can Namco see? I think judging by what they say that they are sticking with Playstation especially PS3 after the huge success of Xilla following their fumblings with Vesperia and Graces.

Tales of xillia sold 500+k first week (700+k LTD) on PS3 making it the fastest selling in tales of history .
Tales of Vesperia and tales of Graces versions on PS3 both outsold their Xbox and Wii counterparts.

Why would Namco take a risk this time and make a Game for a handheld that would sell 300k if they could sell much more on PlayStation if we follow history ?

I am not saying that they should never try and who knows it might sell gangbusters but there is not the certainty of sales that PlayStation systems provide .

Pokemon didn't surprised me. At all. It is just to be expected right?

But GTA V and that Vita sale

Is GTA V even that popular in Japan?
Apparently it got a lot of advertising in Japan...Rockstar was really trying to push it in that region with high sales goals.

It appeals strongly to expats (23K Xbox 360 GTA V sales :p), but in general it's just a popular franchise worldwide...it attracts fans no matter where it goes.

The reason certain handheld entries have failed is probably because they were poor quality. It took Namco three entries before they made a DS Tales game that was genuinely a mainline entry -- Tempest was so bad they had to demote its status. Likewise with the Vita, they've poisoned the well with the shitty low budget remakes. The PSP Tales games mostly did well.

I'd like them to try a new original 2D entry on either portable (I was actually expecting on for the PSP outside of the ports), but I can totally see why they're focusing on one place now after Xillia's great sales.

If Namco did do a 3DS Tales I think a sprite based effort along the lines of Destiny 2, Rebirth and Hearts would be ideal. They're not doing those on consoles anymore either so it might be nice to have a home for that sort of Tales.

Why are people expecting God Eater 2 to save the Vita? I mean, I'm sure it'll probably sell around 200,000 (which isn't bad considering the rest of the Vita software sales), but the original wasn't exactly a big seller and it was on a system with a far larger userbase. Not to mention it's also available on the PSP as well, so I'm sure that will eat into the Vita sales.

The Vita bump is nice, but I just don't see it being sustainable with its future lineup.

Noone is saying it wilo save shit, thiw notion that anyvgame that is discussed positiveoy is seen as some kind of saviour is annoying. Happens all the time with the wiiu too.
The originwl was actually a good seller 600k and the burst version another 400k. If you think 200k is the upper limit i think you will be suprised next month.

Vita has a much smaller userbase than the PSP did, and GE2 is also being released on the PSP as well. So I certainly don't expect GE2 Vita to hit the GE1 numbers.

The first GE did around 600k on the PSP (I think).
That's true, but previous entries in a series aren't necessarily indicators that the next game in the series will sell well. Especially on a floundering system without much of a userbase, and especially considering the fact that GE2 is also being released on the PSP (which people seemingly keep ignoring).

COMG preorder charts are a little wonky in terms of getting exact numbers, but GE2 vita is over 200 points with more than a month to go. I'd be surprised if it didn't smash 200k its first week.

Toukiden or whatever its called sold 200K and that was a new IP also having a PSP SKU. God Eater is a big IP. Its definitely going to do 200K+.

Well the Burst version did another 400k so obviously the formula seems to be working and from my undestanding GE2 isn't significantly changing it. So the brand seems to be a strong one.

Vita's userbase might be small but it is made up of monster hunting game enthusiasts for the most part. Soul Sacrfice proved that and then Toukiden managed to sell over 200k on the Vita as a new IP and also releasing on PSP. So I'd say GE2 could very well become the best selling game on Vita in Japan.

What do you expect GE2 on Vita to sell before it drops off the chart? Give a number, and we'll wait a month and see how you did.
And what do you think it will sell on PSP, since you keep bringing that up as well?

Because there's a lot of people saying it? It's just a general question, and I'm not pointing to anyone in general to answer it. I want to know if there are any preorder numbers or anything pointing at God Eater 2 being a bigger game than I think it will be.
The point I was not-so-subtly making is that I doubt anybody has said the game will 'save' the Vita. People might expect something of a bump, but I don't think anybody expects salvation.

How big do you think it will be?

I'm guessing it'll be around 200k like I said, but unless I am way underestimating the power of God Eater, I'm not expecting much more than that.

Why would MH4 influence whether the sales of any other title are "pretty good"? I'd say a game's sales are "pretty good" if it made a profit.
I don't see it that way at all. Wind Waker HD sales must pretty good with that logic. I judge sales based on comparisons with previous and current consoles and with that metric sales are far from pretty good.

any word on X and Y in the all-time eShop rankings in Japan? Could someone with a Jp3DS have a look?
They're still not in the all time charts. But they were #1/2 for the week and that's also their position now on the recent charts. Looks like enough old sales of MH4 have broken away for Pokemon to take those top spots.

So currently each individual Pokemon unit is selling better than MH4 but not enough to make the all time charts yet.

Where the hell is the " western games wont sell in Japan"-sentiment coming from? Ever watched CoD-sales performance?

And just lol at all these Vita comments^^.
Well, they generally don't. But the reason behind that goes beyond "Japanese hate Western games arbitrarily". If a well-advertised game can still break through, it may be possible for interest in Western games to slowly grow. Actually, I wonder if the West being so prioritized by the PS4 might lure more people to try out Western games.

EDIT: I didn't notice any Vita comments at that link, but it looks like people are using this week as proof that 360 isn't doing much worse than PS3 in Japan.

I was looking at the eshop rankings and wanted to post this piece of news:
Every single game released by Nintendo for the wiiu, be eshop-only or not, in Japan is in the top 20, with the exception of three: Luigy U (which was an add-on and don't count), Rayman (released yesterday) and... Wonderful 101.

The biggest shame is that Zelda didn't even sold that much and it's already on that top 20. Makes me cry.

Double post. Everyone's too busy with NPD tonight. =P

Was seeing the amazon ranking since Rayman was released today. It's on the 1083 position right now and below some great Wiiu sucesses like Epic Mickey 2, Revelaitons and any game to be released in the next month (okay, that's actually not a lot!).

And at the eshop, Rayman is not even on the top 20 for the wiiu. Considering only the wiiu chart, where there isn't any kind of virtual console games, Rayman is 12. That's actually the same position from Yakuza on it's release date, if i remember correctly. I guess Rayman couldn't handle the pressure of holding the Wiiu above 2k.

It's the raving rabbids of the week or Rayman is here to be the protagonist again? Only time will tell.
First day sell-through was ~4%.

The blog adds: "it could be a new record for a game published by Nintendo."

Until you get over your middle age crisis I won't argue with you. Do a research how much PSP software sales collapsed this year and how much more they' ll drop next year and we'll see if it will be dead or not.
Why does it break your heart so much when PSP keeps selling? Is it not impressive that this hardware will have been tracked for TEN years, by the end of next year? Sales-wise and longevity-wise, it's right on the heels of PS2. That's not something that can be taken lightly. But year after year, you continue to proclaim "The PSP will soon be dead" for some inexplicable reason, and any time anyone takes you up on it, your only retort is "get over your middle age crisis" or "you'll learn the hard way". Come on, you've been playing the same record for almost two years and the PSP still isn't dead. Get over it :)
