Media Create Sales: Week 44, 2012 (Oct 29 - Nov 04)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
500k shipped and 80-90% sell-through just on the first day?
This mean 400-450k sold.

It's gigantic. I mean

Animal Crossing Wild World's LTD after first two weeks: 478,294
Animal Crossing City Folk's LTD after first two weeks: 413,607

Now I'm wondering how high 3DS will be this week. Could it be compete with the week where last Super Mario 3D Land was released? I think so.

Well the limited edition is sold out and there are currently 13 different versions of 3ds hardware in the Amazon top 100, this is gonna be a monster week for the system

Well, I think that it was quite predictable a biggest opening; it's the first very true sequel ever, the IP was not so popular when it was released on DS and City Folk got soon a bad reputation and it always looked as a lazy effort.

What was the number?

128,287. I think it was the same week or at most one week before.

Seems like Animal Crossing will have a very strong opening indeed. I guess there are no words on how many units the limited edition hardware bundle that were made?

It's a bit boring right now with Vita going down and down and down with nothing in horizon to save it. We need the Wii U.

Wii U will save VITA! Confirmed!

Methinks hino will be breaking his promise very soon

Ha Ha probably! I anticipated that the 3DS episode could end selling better than the new PSP one: was I wrong?

Apparently Nintendo shipped 500k copies of Animal Crossing.

:lol

Incredible!
But...

I thought that AC might've dropped in popularity but looks like I was wrong.

I think that it will be lower than the DS one in terms of LTD, but it will be front loaded.

The figure of 400-450,000 which will not include eShop purchases has to be mightily impressive since this is a title made to stay on your system. 3DS LTD is gonna overtake PS3 sooner than I initially thought.

Nintendo said they'd be talking digital numbers for some titles. I suspect Animal Crossing will be the first game where they shout them from the rooftops.
Yes, maybe. They must be very happy to reduce used copies for a game that is traditionally not very plagued by used copies to begin with. Plus, they must have a considerably higher margin on games directly bought from the eShop.

It's kinda crazy to see how things are working out so great for Nintendo in Japan while western sales are still pretty men.

Honestly I think Animal Crossing works well as download game - you don't have to look for its cart to play it, and it works well in small bursts of gameplay.

I figured last week it could take up to early March at a conservative rate with a solid PS3 performance, but it's looking like, at a stretch, the overtaking could happen this year...

If only DS weren't obstacolating 3DS sales in US...I mean, the last Investor meeting showed us good / very good sales in Europe ( where DS has been killed) after XL's launch. At least, next year DS should be over in USA too
but, of course, NoA will cut the price again and then another year with DS selling :lol

So I gather Animal crossing will be the biggest 3DS title until 2013, aside from it is there anything else I'm forgetting, such as Pokemon dungeon?

Then, in Q1/Q2 2013 there are Tomodatchi collection, DQ7 and Monster hunter 4, good times ahead for 3DS.

There's zero doubt that Animal Crossing will be this holiday's strongest title, but Mystery Dungeon, Paper Mario and Layton x Ace Attorney should be big sellers.

I don't know, Layton's series has performing underwhelmingly recently, and I don't recall any Paper Mario being a big hit in Japan, between the three you're mentioning Mystery dungeon may be the one with the biggest sales potential.

I'd like to say Inazuma Eleven Go 2 there, but considering Level 5's scheduling is...well...

Mystery Dungeon's the only one that has good potential to be a million seller, you're right, but I feel the overall strength of the platform may push the other two towards half a million or higher.

With Animal Crossing being not only a system seller but a system seller to the non-core audience, I could see the trinity and NSMB2 having a great holiday season.

Realistically what can one expect the budget Monster Hunter 3G release to do both first week and over the holiday season?

IIRC in last financial report Nintendo has claimed they have distributed over 22 million 3DS worldwide, that doesn't seem to me bad at all all things being considered so I guess it's faring quite well in Europe and NA as well overall.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf may easily be the biggest title 3DS will ever receive along with the next main Pokemon title if it sells on par with Animal Crossing DS. Even with a small decline (4.5M) it should be above Monster Hunter 4 and the eventual Dragon Quest XI.

I think the last one got around 500,000 on the Wii, but Paper Mario will be interesting because it's released on a handheld this time with a larger userbase to sell on, I think it might do better than expected like Fire Emblem.

I'd expect Paper Mario 3 to sell more in line with the last DS Mario & Luigi than it's console predecessors. It's going to be over 500k lifetime at the least.

Ace Attorney will help push Layton V Wright over Layton 5's 400k too imo.

Retailers and consumers will ignore them in place of Sony.

I've just looked and bizarrely amazon are actually selling the black 3g cheaper than the wifi and the white one for only a few yen more, Sony really should stop trying to flog the dead horse that is 3g vita

Well the history has been there before. Nintendo were in this same situation several years ago with the GBA vs DS, of which I can recall quite a few GAF threads of yesteryear condemning the company for putting the GBA out in to the shed to be killed. We all know how that story went.

Whether history repeats itself in the sales game is up to the acceptance of the spreadsheet critics.

Nintendo was harshly criticized for not putting GBA down fast enough back then too. The system was still a big seller until 2007.

I'm quite surprised Sony even bothered with 3g versions of the new colours

The margin on the 3G version is probably better, so I can see why Sony wants to continue the model. Of course, if retailers and consumers aren't picking it up, it'll just end up like the PSP Go.

If retailers are having to mark it down to the same price the higher margins will cease to exist, Sony would be better off saving money by streamlining production

They might have some type of deal that they made with NTT Docomo to support/release 3G versions of the Vita for awhile. It sounds plausible...
Plus I'm sure they were probably expecting more enthusiasm for the 3G version in general. (Not to mention PSV)

Isn't that what Sony did in Japan? The Vita is struggling so let's drop the price of its predecessor the PSP to boost sales! The PSP has certainly gone up a bit since the 3,000 yen price cut. Meanwhile Vita has dropped to all time lows.

I agree, also because previous entries of the series did:

N64: 425,609
GC: 398,218
Wii: 505,491

I think that it could be achievable to do 500K again more or less
