Yokai spinoff liable to do 2 million. That'd be something

Splatoon is tooning. Minecraft is crafting.

Triforce heroes still going down. It was likely cheap to make, but still.

It did imply that Nintendo should be worried about an expected and quite obvious decline in 3DS hw sales: "2016 can be quite long for Nintendo until NX.". In fact, Nintendo 3DS already has 4 to 6 million sellers next year, and a way better line-up in the first half of the year with respect to 2015.
You are jumping down that guys throat for no reason. Nintendo's sales in Japan will be poor next year, it doesn't matter if the 3DS has a few good selling software titles, overall software and hardware will decline and its going to be lean times for Nintendo until their next platform(s).

This is a problem for the whole dead console industry in Japan though and its increasing irrelevance.

Nintendo's 3DS declining is pretty natural at this point in the cycle. This is normally past the point of time where they make more money on software than hardware to begin with, so I don't really see the issue in the 3DS declining by its lonesome. The rest is an issue mostly because of the 3DS's and Wii U's worldwide performance imo.

My initial message didn't imply anything except quite sharply declining YOY sales from 2014 over 2015 to 2016.

Only that the 3DS pattern doesn't match your examples. NDS had a 4 million baseline after from 07 to 09 and only shrunk to 3,7 million in 2010, while the 3DS is declining significantly for two years now.
While the Wii then hit the point of saturation in 2011 and only sold like the 1/2 of 2010.

Responding to the bolded... The first is wrong though. The DS sold 2,963,709 in 2010, which was a decently big drop.

With the Wii statement.... are you trying to say the 3DS is or isn't saturated? I'm confused? I personally think the drop in Wii sales in 2011 were more due to a super weak line-up during the beginning of the year, and an ok lineup at best by end of 2011 more than saturation.

It's doing a bit better than Four Swords Adventures did back in the day at least.

Triforce is forcing, maybe?

Haha, btw I still don't know how Splatoon keeps selling that much. That bundle gonna be very good to see, in terms of hardware impact.

Sure, but thats not really relevant to the conversation they were having which was a general comment about a slow year for Nintendo that got a defensive "well 3DS has some good selling software left yo so not really" which doesn't actually counter the point.

I agree this year is a pretty slow year. Considering next year has a good # of 3rd party software sellers in Japan, mobile games starting (5 before early 2017 = some of the others have to release next year), launch of new account system, and possible launch of NX, it's possible that next year is actually better financially than this year. We'll see though.

So for Wii U, for the rest of the year we've got:

Next week
11/9-11/15:
11/12 - Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition (are we expecting this to flop like the previous Disney Infinity v1 that was released in Japan?)
11/12 - Art Academy: Home Studio
11/12 - Splatoon (Premium Set)

11/16 - 11/22
11/18 - Monster Hunter Frontier G9
11/19 - Puyo Puyo Tetris (Special Price)
11/21 - Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival

11/23 - 11/29
11/26 - Taiko no Tatsujin: Atsumete Tomodachi Daisakusen!

11/30 - 12/5
12/5 - Yo-Kai Watch Dance: Just Dance Special Version

Eventually on 12/26 - Genei Ibunroku #FE

If anything launch of a new system probably will bring the financial results down for the next year. Launching new hardware is expensive (with few exceptions like Wii that started to print money right after the launch).

I see where Fallout 3 sold 30K on X360 first week in 2008, and Fallout New Vegas sold 26K on X360 and 34K on PS3 in 2010. Did Fallout 3 launch on PS3 in Japan, and fail to chart?

I would think that the popularity of western RPGs has grown there but I think Fallout 4 will still not do as well as Skyrim.

I thought a game/series like this would do better than this in Japan.
Wonder why it keeps bombing.

So, what's your opinion about Minecraft apparently finally coming to WiiU (for the japanese market obviously)?
Could it still get as good numbers as on Vita, and is there overlap with the Splatoon audience? Or is that just something that won't really do anything apart from the first week?

What's the vita one up to including digital?

Really doubt it gets that high.
I think it can do a few hundred thousand though.

Tuesday 3rd of November was a national holiday (yeah again, Japan loves Holiday days), that's why a few games increased this week.
We're not still in Christmas Holidays season, next week most of the games will drop (except Wii U because it has the Splatoon bundle).
Christmas season starts later than the west in Japan, from the 23rd of November we can expect games to rise.

About Call of Duty decent debut but not fantastic. It just sold a little better than last year's entry. But this year there's no Dubbed version, so this year it needs to have better legs than past years. We'll see how performs during holiday season.

Definitely not as good as Vita numbers, imo. Depending how the gameplay is and stuff like that, the word of mouth could do its job, though. Won't be crafting as the evergreen title the Vita version is, but surely will be selling a good amount.

Japan is probably the only reason why they are porting it to Wii U.

I hope Nintendo is the publisher.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2015/151028e.pdf

Wii U has sold far more units (roughly double) in the Americas than Japan as per Nintendo, and Minecraft's retail edition is a consistent top 10 NPD game in the US, a larger market. Minecraft Wii U makes even more sense for the North American market than Japan.

It's okay guys, I'm sure WiiU will win at least one more week in hardware sales before it completely dies out. No need to get upset over PS4 beasting.
By today's standards

WiiU is dead. Let it go.

For how many weeks now is PS4 at #1 HW spot?

Ever since the price drop iirc.

Lets say 180-190k with digital sales?
Decent debut but the lack of dubbed is really going to hurt it in combined sales.

REALLY surprised by the sheer longevity of Splatoon, to be honest. Still at top 10 after all this time, especially it's an exclusive game to a dying console? Amazing performance.

Nintendo's sales in Japan will be poor next year, it doesn't matter if the 3DS has a few good selling software titles, overall software and hardware will decline and its going to be lean times for Nintendo until their next platform(s).

3DS software sales will be poor next year?

I don't think you know what's coming out for 3DS next year comparing to this.

PS4 beats death for another week, not bad for a dead portion of the gaming market. ;)

Wii U rises due to mini-holiday period, should go up next week due to Squidtoon bundle.

Call o' Duty doing decently.

Disney Magic Castle 2 should sell through its shipment thanks to the holidays approaching. Not sure if Chibi-Robo!! would benefit much from the holiday sales season.... :(

Hmm....numbers don't make sense here for Dengeki considering PS4 has a higher percentage than 3DS.

REALLY surprised by the sheer longevity of Splatoon, to be honest. Still at top 10 after all this time, especially it's an exclusive game to a dying console? Amazing performance.

it's single-handedly responsible for the wii u being up year over year. that's crazy. i think it sold better in japan than any other country too.

PS4 should be 33k. My macro got something wrong.

Will fix when I'm back on pc.

i want to say the first and second brain training games had some serious staying power. the first one was one of last gen's biggest sleeper hits.

Wii Sport? I remember it being step-by-step in sales alongside the Wii hw numbers back in the day.

Noticed something while looking at HW sales.

n-3DSLL| 18.496 | 16.824 | 50.619 | 1.004.901 | 376.742 | 1.871.959 |
| n-3DS | 10.448 | 3.559 | 15.020 | 320.594 | 149.732 | 689.900

Basically, most of the increase in sales for the 3DS comes from the New 3DS. Looks like the Disney Magic Castle 2 bundle did sell quite a bit in the end.

@hiska-kun: no pic for Art Academy Atelier? :(

Wii U has sold far more units (roughly double) in the Americas than Japan as per Nintendo, and Minecraft's retail edition is a consistent top 10 NPD game in the US, a larger market. Minecraft Wii U makes even more sense for the North American market than Japan.

Wii U is irrelevant in the US and most Americans have already bought Minecraft elsewhere.

Minecraft Vita is selling well in Japan but it could have sold a lot more if the system was more attractive to kids. That's where Wii U comes in, especially now with Splatoon getting a lot of love from that demographic.

Latest example from last month's NPD: 7.) Disney Infinity 3.0 (360, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, PS3) (it's funny how Sony keeps making these deals with Disney, but kids clearly don't care for these games on PS4 & PS3 lol)

Wii U isn't really irrelevant for the US though for titles like Minecraft.... Just look at all the kids titles. The PS4, XB1 and Wii U SKUs of kids titles sometimes do best on Wii U (Lego, Disney Infinity, etc.) or at least comparable each year (diff platform SKUs sell better of Lego games throughout the year). If it's worth it to put on PS4 & XB1, it's worth it to put it on Wii U if you could get another SKU's worth of sales. Just look at the stupid amount of eShop sales for Minecraft clones on Wii U. There's at least some demand. Also the kids' genre is honestly the only area that the Wii U gets support in really. That's the only area you could say "hey, you get Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Just Dance, Lego + Nintendo family friendly titles". Big Problem was "where's Minecraft? Oh right..." I don't think it'll do much this late in the game, but it fills a huge gap the Wii u had.

To me this shows the PS4 & XB1 have failed pretty miserably to get kids to their platform thus far in any significant numbers if the Wii U SKU can outsell them at times, but MAYBE that'll change later in the gen....

So what do folks think will sell more? Just Dance: Youkai Watch or Minecraft Wii U (if it gets a retail release in JP)?

Minecraft; Just dance is a poor effort, there's not much content and it will be twice the price of Minecraft, not to mention I'm not sure if the IP is still relevant there (last episode on Wii U did something like 60k I think?), Youkai Watch can only do so much on Wii U.

It was a clever move by Ubisoft but it looks like an half-assed one.

(The game should still be able to easily cross the 100k mark though)

If Minecraft gets a retail release in Japan, it'd be really surprising if it didn't manage to sell at least as well as Yo-kai Watch Dance. Then again, got no idea how well that one is going to sell, so...

I took it. Just I didn't upload it.
Here you have.

Cheers!

I just love that boxart. Meowtastic.
