Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2013 (Dec 02 - Dec 08)

but with Pachter being Pachter, he could out-Pachter himself
Pachterception, if you will :p

(although seriously, I'd be surprised if it was above 300k)

Patcherception would be making disappointing forecasts about himself.

For example, "Next fiscal year I will make 6 public statements that prove innaccurate and be the topic of 4,500 enraged forum posts".

^_^ I actually wanted to add Hero Bank there but after seeing how Gyro and Gaist crash and burn, I had almost zero trust on that multimedia IP there.

Also, I think Fossil Fighter is a big IP for 2014 there.(It always sells well right?)

Not really sure about Toshin toshi though. Classic rpg. Maybe around Etrian sales?

The last one I kinda can remember is only Kuroko under consideration that the series is currently one of the most famous manga from WSJ.

Hope that is helpful for u.^_^
Thanks again.

There definitely are some things, but it just remains a bit more sparse than I would normally be expecting going into Spring.

Perhaps we'll see some announcements as we hit January and the holidays are over.

If Wii U really does 150k in NA in November, they're going to have to do something drastic. I think Gamepadless console at $199 becomes a whole lot more realistic, because what they have going right now just isn't cutting it.

I think the number will be closer to 350k, though. Still god awful, but not sub Dreamcast awful =P

Indeed. And this is actually my biggest question here.

Even if they announce more games in Nintendo Direct, I kinda feel that Nintendo already released most of its heavy hitters here.

The only sport left is Mario strikers. And Basket? Maybe some Metroid? Starfox(T_T) and these time, they don't even have Cing anymore so we won't see any of those game anymore. Last time Lost in Blue is still something like Trauma Center but once again, those two IP is more or less gone too.

I only can hope that Nintendo will take these time to introduce some new IP which is retail sizes and grow those IP into their new powerful brand.(New Elite Beat Agents any chance?T_T)

Atlus is probably going to release new Devil Children game with their Devilrizer trademark? And new Digimon series too?

There are many potential games, but I feel they are all too small or not really influential in 3DS environment.

For biggish 1st party handheld IPs yet to make their 3DS debut Nintendo still has Wario Land/Ware, Puzzle League, Legendary Starfi and Rhythm Tengoku. Tetris too in a way.

No stock problems for Puzzle & Dragons, when the copies started to run out, the shop assistant came en fill the shelves again with new copies.
I guess this kind of game sells more on weekends. We'll see if there's enough stock then.

I wouldn't be dismissing some hopeful heavyhitters of 2014.

Besides the self-evident Pokemon Z, there is potential in Smash Bros. 3DS, Mario Golf, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Yoshi's New Island, and probably Zero Escape 3, Majora's Mask 3D, and many other first and third party games by studios who haven't unveiled anything for a while now.

that.....doesn't seem right

The only way 2014 could actually get close to 2012/3 sales is DQΧΙ. All those you mentioned are nothing compared to the mainline Pokemon and Monster Hunter. Now, put DQXI alongside MH4G,Pokemon Z and new hardware (2DS?) and we might be on to something.

Did Tearaway REALLY released in Japan?

I mean... FUCK, not even charting on the top 50? WTF!?

I mean... I know they have terrible taste in gaming... but not even 1000~3000 copies were sold? Jesus Christ, what a massive bomba!

Even with Pachter being Pachter, I seriously doubt he'll end up being off by more than 100%, let alone close to 200%.

At the same time I strongly doubt Wii U's performance was just 150k during the entire month of November. Even the worse retail opinions put Wii U's spike during black friday above these numbers.

t makes more sense that 150k is the number of Wii U systems that sold during the Black Friday week. I put the cumulative performance of the previous 3 weeks between 50k and 100k. It's hard to say where exactly.

So my estimation is 200-250k, which is awful anyway.

Pachter is presumably just applying a 3x multiplier or thereabouts on October sales, which fits within typical Oct->Nov transition. His limited channel checks may conform to this prediction.

Huh?

I should have been more clear. Let me rephrase that.

During black friday's week, many US retailers noticed a surge in Wii U sales that is in some case of one order of magnitude more than the sales being observed a month before. In worst cases, this was still beyond the 3x figure that results from Pachter's estimate.

It's worth noting that this doesn't imply that Wii U's sales exploded in any way.

Any links to the reports (do they give any insight on other systems?), or is it more anecdotal?

Although even an order of magnitude increase in Black Friday week could still result in a result similar to Pachter's, if there wasn't any major uptick outside of Black Friday i.e. ~12.5/week average in Oct, 125K BF week, 37K other three weeks, sum of ~160K or so.

Although having a major software release, as well as proximity to Christmas, may cause a baseline increase for the month. (I think I put just under 200K for the prediction thread.) NPD will be interesting.

It's more anecdotal, yes. I should have mentioned that before, sorry.

12.5k/week is fair, but really the lower limit. I considered an average of 15k and an upper range of 20k-25k. The 20k-25k may appear wild, but I consider the fact that november probably resulted in a slow, exponential like surge of sales and not a sudden, week-only spike. In other words, during the first week of november sales were probably 15k-20k, then the second week 25k-35k, the third week 30-45k and black friday week around 130k-150k. Total 200k-250k.

Didn't know P&DZ was cheaper than the usual. Obvious strategy if the goal is to appeal to people who play the smartphone version.

Big 3rd party games (e.g. MH4) go for 5980 yen, while most 1st party stuff are at 4800 yen. Based on the info I have, all 3DS games at 4400 or less (excluding budget and re-releases).

Code:
2100 - Simple Series for Nintendo 3DS Vol. 1: The Mahjong
2500 - Rayman Origins
2993 - Virus Shooter XX
3800 - Hana to Ikimono no Rittai Zukan
3800 - Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir
3800 - Brain Age: Concentration Training
3800 - Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone
3800 - Pokémon TRETTA Lab. for Nintendo 3DS
3800 - Nanami to Issho ni Manabo! English Joutatsu no Kotsu
3980 - Frogger 3D
3980 - Guild01
3980 - Starry Sky: in Spring 3D

3990 - Kipper no Eigo Kyoushitsu: Floppy's Phonics Vol. 1 - Kipper Hen
3990 - Kipper no Eigo Kyoushitsu: Floppy's Phonics Vol. 2 - Biff Hen
3990 - Kipper no Eigo Kyoushitsu: Floppy's Phonics Vol. 3 - Chip Hen
3990 - Jewel Link: Legends of Atlantis 3D
3990 - Kodomo ni Anshinshite Ataerareru Game Series: Sekai Meisaku Douwa Oyako de Yomeru Game Ehon: Bouken Hen

LBX are technically re-releases, but are new 3DS games. Most of the rest is the stuff that died together with the DS (training games etc.) or some niche randomness.

EDIT:

First day sales of DQVIII:

If it's actually been populated to be viewable in the store and is advertised, it seems like a mega bomb, at least on Android.

If it's still floating in limbo, it probably makes sense to look at what it is at tomorrow instead.

Edit:

Their other Android releases in LTD (I have no idea what Day 1 are for these, so maybe they just don't sell that much up front). To note, I'm unsure which ones have been free if they ever have been:

FF1: 50,000 - 100,000
FF2: 10,000 - 50,000
FF3: 100,000 - 500,000
FF4: 50,000 - 100,000
FF4:TAY: 5,000 - 10,000
FF5: 50,000 - 100,000
FFD: 100,000 - 500,000

CT: 50,000 - 100,000

CR: 100,000 - 500,000
CRO: 10,000 - 50,000
CR2: 10,000 - 50,000

Eh, I don't know, I suppose Square promoted it...it's DQVIII!

What I mean by that is "Have their in-app advertisements started yet," since it's the favored way to advertise on mobile.

Like someone playing P&D might get a pop-up going "Hey go buy DQVIII, it's out now!".

It's very possible they have, I just don't have a Japanese cellphone.

If they aren't intending to do that then uh... still terrible results.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the explanation. Anyone with a Japanese cellphone could check if they started with in-app ads? If they have, the results are even worse
and, I don't want to hide it, reassuring for many of us :lol

Though knowing Square Enix, they will probably just keep doing this and monetize them in different ways!

Matsuda is pretty sold on the mobile future judging by their financial statements.

All right then, I'll give them a couple of days since people have to get to a wi-fi connection and then the page has to update, but I'm quite interested to see where it goes during the weekend.

This corroborates with what I've been reading too, sold out even before it went on sale.
