It is tough, which is why I hope they add the incentive to play the originals by bundling them with a 3D port... Or create a really cohesive intro to catch everyone up to speed, which is more likely. Megaman Legends 3DS can hide the sequel part to newcomers, but we'll know its the third game. It is possible to start off from a cliff hanger, after all both Legends 1 and 2 started in middle of a story which could have very well been the end of another game.B.K. said:I just wonder how many people will be interested in the game. Most gamers never played the first two and have probably even even heard of the series. They'll be dropped right in the middle of the story with no clue what's happening or who anyone is.
Discotheque said:Just fired up the first game on PC.
Controls are terrible, but oh man I can see why I loved this series. The charm just hit me instantly (like it did with Beyond Good and Evil when I played that game).
Yes, we're all pulling your leg here. That people liked games you disliked is mind-blowing, isn't it?Mockingbird said:Is the anticipation for this game some kind of joke? If memory serves this series was terrible. Reviews bashed them too. Wtf is going on?

How does that make any sense though?Noshino said:The PS1 wasn't "really weak hardware" back when it came out :lol
The similarity is that those titles went from being released on relative powerful hardware (during their generations) to relatively weaker hardware. Do you beg to differ? :lol

Choppasmith said:Yeah it always amazes me for a company to release 3 games in the same generation to have some of the most infamously bad English voice acting of all time (RE, X4, MM8) and then release the Legends games, which had really solid voice acting. Though Tron Bonne was probably the weakest of the three being just a little too sweet and kiddy sounding (and not keeping Ohtani's "Bahhbuuu" voice quips)
The cutscenes were ahead of their time too. I mean can anyone actually name a PS1 game that had such great looking real time animated cutscenes on the PS1? MGS comes close, but even then MML had very expressive facial animations. I can only imagine how great would be if MML3 had fluid cutscenes of Kingdom Hearts quality.
Thunder Monkey said:How does that make any sense though?
MML3DS will still look a good generation or two better then the last title. They're just not comparable in the strictest sense. DQ jumped back a generation, and MML is jumping ahead one and a half.
bigjimmystyle said:Can someone please explain to me why this is a big deal? I never played the first two but from what I gathered it was a slapdash 3D-make for the Playstation era ala Bubsy 3D. Obviously I am greatly mistaken?
ILikeFeet said:it's quite good actually. had tank controls (I only played the first one) but it was really fun and well written
I loved them even with the shitty control of the first one.:loljett said:First one has awful controls, but you can configure MML2 to control like a regular dual analog game, almost. Still playable today.
Both games, but especially MML2, are flat out awesome action adventure games with lots of personality and charm.
This is the thinking that made people ignore both these games. Even the Tron Bonne spin-off was an excellent underrated title. "This isn't a 2d side scroller Megaman! Pass!" "Not a Megaman fan, it's just Megaman in 3d, PASS!"bigjimmystyle said:Can someone please explain to me why this is a big deal? I remember when I was a kid watching the commercial for the game, I was so fucking hyped, but I never got the Playstation version... I got the wacky N64 conversion of the game. I eventually found out about how much was different between the two versions of the games and went on a hunt for the two and well, the rest is history. Legends fan fo' lyfe.![]()
I played the n64 port just for the hell of it, and it just seemed a lot muddier. The n64's trademark fog plagued everything, plus the music and voice clips suffered in quality being crammed into the cartridge. Luminous visuals also appeared muted or dark... And they couldn't even put the cool ending credits theme the US got.ILikeFeet said:how different were the games anyway?
The N64 version was supposed to be superior. Zelda-like analog control, added content, improved graphics, etc.SwiftSketcher said:I played the n64 port just for the hell of it, and it just seemed a lot muddier. I still look back fondly on a lot of games that gen. They aren't pretty anymore, not in the strictest sense, but they show an understanding of the systems limitations and how to work around them that was masterful. We haven't really seen that this generation, but that might just be because of how costly art asset creation became this past generation.
Anyway... I can't wait to see what MML looks like with current day tech.![]()

Noshino said:Nope, I don't like it, and there are people that don't like it as well. It STILL has the awful design of the DSLite, which was uncomfortable beyond belief. I had to lay it on top of a solid surface or my leg to play, and even then, my hands would hurt after 30 minutes or so... shame, specially since the GBA and Micro were much easier to hold.
Sorry, but Nintendo's department that takes care of ergonomics must have been fired and instead they decided to hire the same people that design the original xbox controller.

This is where I have hope for the "fan-interaction" thing. Let's tell them to get the original VAs, keep the visual style, include ports of the game, stuff like that. Now when it comes to the story and gameplay, and Inafune's vision, I hope that isn't for us to tamper with.Lindsay said:Its real? Really real? For reals? Guess I better hunt down TMOTB since I only ever rented that one while I bought MML/MML2. Not that I expect ta have a 3DS within the next 5 years or anything.
Ya the voice acting was good an fitting for the cartoony look of the games! Part of me wishes they'd bring the original VA's back but then I'd wonder if they would still have the same charm.
Comparing the dslite to the og xbox controller are you mad?!
They better keep it!!

Part of the reason I'm apprehensive about going handheld only.Noshino said:Right about what?
Well, it was the worst that I could come up with, but even then, the DS Lite had an even worse form factor than the xbox controller, that corners of the Lite were just really really uncomfortable, I swear I could play with arcade sticks and my hand claws wouldn't be as bad as after playing with the Lite. Im sorry if those feelings seem to be out of the ordinary.
Right now its Call Mega Man Legends 3: Project, they need to find some word that can be shortened to just D or DS.Bentendo said:Such a lost opportunity. Third game in the series... you following me? The number 3... maybe you could add a D at the end of that.
Mega Man Legends 3D

Now if I get grips for the system then it could very well be my favorite system. I don't know. If I get a 3DS I'll have to use it as my primary gaming platform... and it seems to be getting more then enough games of my liking to do it...
I don't know. It's still over $200 for a handheld... I've never paid more then $150 for a handheld.
Back in 1999/2000 A Megaman game in 3D might have been seen as a full replacement for classic 2D Megaman... And in that sense, you might have heard somewhere that "some fans" were disappointed, because it wasn't trying to be that.Mockingbird said:Is the anticipation for this game some kind of joke? Believe me MML3DS was one hell of a nudge.GDGF said:Eh, you've got time to think about it and kiosks will be up sometime shortly after Christmas I would think. I'm definitely going portable only with the 3DS, though. Just don't have the time or spare change to support multiple systems anymore. This is getting all the types of games I love, anyway. Figured now is as good a time as any.

It was an amazing series on it's own RPG/action merits. It has a beloved following... And 2D Megaman games are clearly not as endangered as they once might have seemed in the late 90s. No one thinks of MM Legends as a replacement for Megaman anymore.. Everyone judges it as that charming spinoff classic... If anything, it's criminally under-rated. It's a great series!
I like Mega Man Legends more then DMC, so this is a bigger deal to me. It does not lessen my dislike for the new Dante.BladeoftheImmortal said:So, are we all forgiving them for DmC now? CAPGOD BABY!
I'm optimistic about the graphical style, I was relieved when I saw the artwork in the Japanese site being exactly what I want instead of some exxxtreme new art.Discotheque said:I hope it keeps it's cartoony style intact, only with more impressive visuals obviously. Same. I would have flipped if something like that happened here.Thunder Monkey said:I like Mega Man Legends more then DMC, so this is a bigger deal to me. It does not lessen my dislike for the new Dante.
Mr Jared's Twitter said:I'm also just going to come out and say it: Mega Man Legends 3 on 3DS is squandered potential and selling that series way, way short.
