Legends was terrible, but I'm sure this will be given the attention it deserves. Not necessarily hyped, but I'm looking forward to it :D

-_-

Great realization of MM in 3D. Can't wait to see what's new and how they improve it. Will slightly lessen hype due to the director until media is available.

Still can't fucking wait :D

My guess is that if the 3DS had been out for 2 years or so, we'd get port begging. But it's a system that most people haven't had a chance to play with and the prospect of a series returning to a new system is pretty exciting.

And the fact that it's Mega Man Legends 3 doesn't hurt.

Not ONE post of blatant port begging? Jeez, not even people the price can ruin this announcement apparently.
We've been waiting for Legends 3 for a LONG time. Even longer than Shenmue 3. This is no time to get picky.

Why is this thread only 2 pages long? :lol

Try /v/ if you're feeling brave. I'm actually proud of GAF right now. Perhaps they understand that this is the first step to the "handheld/portable enlightened race".
We seriously need to coin a new phrase for handheld folks now. :lol

Technically it wasn't a great realization of MM any more than Metroid Prime was a great 3D realization of Metroid. That said, I still liked MML better than the original MM titles.

I can't believe this is real! Such great news, though having "fan involvement" worries me a bit. MML did have its faults and problems but both were still really enjoyable games and I hope that 3 can retain the fun while making it better to play.

The fan involvement probably won't be very large. It will probably just be stuff like, "Hey check out these character designs!" and then they'll have a poll on what design is the best.

When did this series become so popular?

I've been out of the videogame loop for like 4 years, and I never remember anyone EVER making a big deal over this series.

Now everyone is acting like it's the most cherished franchise ever.

Not saying it isn't justified, but I honestly don't remember Legends being that well received. I dunno.

Bummer that Inafune was talking about Mega Man Legends 3 as the sequel he always wanted to make. Was hoping it would be Duck Tales 2

I don't think the series is that popular. It's just that the fans of the game are that vocal about it. They want another game since 2 had such a cliffhanger ending.

The news that made it well worth my time staying up until 2AM EST. JOY TO THE WORLD! :D :D :D

That's the thing though. You want Trigger/Volnutt to STOP being so "niche"? EXPOSE HIM SOME MORE. All of this exposure for DASH/Legends has to make it so that the public is aware of Trigger, so that he's not given the "WTF is this guy?!" treatment.

Even as much as I'm a lil sad that Rockman X has been passed up (again....), you have to admit that marketing the DASH series this last decade is the main way that DASH has stayed in the public eye. Trigger was always meant to be the "Rockman of a new generation", and he can still be that, if his new game lives up to that promise.

I don't really want or care about Volnutt getting more exposure, he can stay niche for all I care. Anyways, not trying to derail the topic to MvC3 so this is the last i'll speak of it here.

It's not actually popular, it's just a niche series that some gamers love and have been waiting for a sequel for a long time. Just look at how slow this thread is.

Now to hope Capcom reports Legends 1 and 2. Maybe update the graphics while they are at it :lol

Also, the main reason people have been wanting a sequel is the 2nd game ended with a cliff hanger.

Uhh, that's not really saying anything considering that Metroid Prime is far and away the greatest realization of a classic game series in 3D of all time while Mega Man Legends was easily one of the worst.

I'd be cool if they had an American version of the MM contests they have in Japan where people get to send in character designs and the best ones get picked for the game.

Great news BTW.

3DS will be the PS2 of the handheld world.

And announcements like this prove the 3DS is going to be a real gamers machine. Something for the old guys like me. I'm in fucking love with this thing.

The point being that neither of those 3D incarnations plays that much like their 2D incarnations. Without getting into the issue of whether or not I loved/hated these games, I think Zelda: OOT was a far better 3D realization of Zelda than Prime was of Metroid. I would put Prime very near the bottom of my list of 3D realizations.

I need to play Tron Bonne real badly :(

I remember asking a guy at EB years ago if he had a copy. He looked at me like I had asked for a weird Japanese porno or something :lol

People are so quick to forget

While not the most direct conversion from 3D to 2D, i think MML came pretty damn close. Yeah it's more action adventure/rpg-ish than the linear stage by stage arcade action of the original series, but there's still plenty of powerups to be had, baddies to destroy, bosses to fight requiring quick reflexes and closely watched attack patterns. The one complaint I had was that the exploration could be a bit slow a times with backtracking and whatnot (MML2 fixed this somewhat.) I'll agree though and say the MP series takes the crown on the most perfect transition from 2D to 3D.

That being said, I have one request, Capcom: may the MML2 English voice dubs forever burn in hell. If Volnutt sounds like a whiny 6-year-old again I swear I will take a power drill to Inafune's ear drums.

Weren't some of you guys heaping a pile of shit on Inafune for being all self-deprecating about the Japanese games industry?

Inafune redeemed I guess. :p

What is this all about?
Megaman Legends was designed to be nothing like any of the prior games. It took some basic concepts yeah but in no way does it try to be something like "Megaman in 3D" or "Megaman with some different controls".

And it looks like quite a few were silenced now that it's going to be on a handheld. :lol

Exactly. It rode on the Mega Man brand but it didn't set out to be a 3D execution of classic MM.

I hope they clear the licensing issues and release Megaman Legends 1 and 2 on PSN before this comes out. I fondly remember playing Legends when I was a kid...but that's about it.

Or better yet....3DS ports bundled with 3 to make trilogy. OMGGGGGG (not gonna happen obviously). You should all be happy this wasn't on home consoles actually. If it was they'd probably give it to the developers of Fracture or some shit.

oh not yet he isn't, not until we get clarification on whether it's an internal or external production.

Inafune ruining his baby would be a pretty damning thing. For some reason I can't believe that it would happen. If it does my opinion of game-development will plummet to yet unseen levels. It's really not something I'm looking forward to.

Really? I recall legends 1 and 2 having really outstanding dubs for their time. Teisel Bonne, Tron, Servbots, Glyde were all great. I only really hated Megaman's voice in the 2nd game for sounding like a woman.

How can people hate on MML2's voice acting? It's perfect, it sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon.

I really should replay MML2...

Agreed. Mega Man sounded 100% female in MML2. :lol

Roll's voice was cute though! I'd like it if they got the same actress for her. The Bonnes were good too.

Most of the power ups could not be switched on the fly aside from the normal blaster and what little you could do with the blaster was re-balance various parameters like RoF, range, and power. Almost all the bosses could be fought by locking on, strafing, and hitting the jump or the dodge button on occasion while holding down the blaster button. The bosses moved differently from each other, but it wasn't necessary to do anything differently to dispatch them.

Overall the movement/pacing of the game is much slower and there is much more emphasis on enjoying the story and exploring ruins than in destroying enemies.

The classic megaman games allowed you to pick which bosses/worlds to do, so while the worlds are linear, the gameplay as a whole wasn't since the power-ups actually made a difference. MML was far more linear in that regard.

Prime wasn't really that much better when it came to preserving the original's experience of dodging and rapidly jumping from platform to platform.

Yeah I think the one guy I REALLY wish would come back is Tiesel

Really makes me wonder who's voicing Tron in MvC3. I would imagine they would just recast everybody and start fresh. But if that's not Caroly Larson, it sure sounds quite similar to her.

I wonder if the game will start from where Legends 2 ended, or if they'll skip the whole "bringing Megaman back from the Moon" thing so people that never played the other 2 won't be confused.

I'd love it if you played as Tron in the Gustaff with Roll as your spotter in the obligatory tutorial as you search for components to build a space ship
