Metal Gear Online Beta: One Giant Cluster****

I don't understand how everybody is having so many issues with this, and my retarded ass downloaded the beta and installed the update with no problem whatsoever.

Maybe people are just bitching for the sake of bitching. Slow news day, perhaps...

Heh well I'm bitching just a little because i'm scared the Konami website might not be up in time for me to play online on monday. Don't really keep up with all the news of mgs4 myself and I assumed all I would need to do was use my psn account and the code in the preorder dvd. Feel kind of stupid now that I didn't keep up with all the news because now i'm scrambling to get everything I need. I hope I'm just overreacting.

this is gaf, youre right. and people bitch about anything. esperado made perfect sense and was right. its a fucking beta for a reason. maybe because of this experience they are going to change a lot of this, including the KID, etc. who knows, but tahts the point in beta TESTING.

Quick question. How should people who cannot register for the beta because of some bullshit that Konami did participate in the beta test? This thread is not at all about the actual download of the beta itself which was pretty painless albeit a bit slow (obviously). Maybe if you read the thread you would discover this without someone having to point it out for you.

Come on Konami! No resume AND I have to quit to XMB if I want to change download methods. pffft.

edit: OH SNAP! make sure you turn UPNP - OFF if you've specified a port you want it to use!!! I'm pulling @ 180k/s right now; much better than my 6k earlier.

They need to have it fixed well before Monday. Either that or announce that they're using PSN IDs in the final game.

maybe it will once it is officially up for dl tomorrow. or to be safe just email konami.

Well they had that as the URL before I made this thread but this is the first I'm seeing it. I don't read Kotaku.
 
I also have an invalid 9 character code.

Maybe by the time the 9's start working all the 12's will be done downloading and we'll have more bandwidth.
 
For anyone having problems with the 9 or 11 digit codes you're supposed to email Konami and see what they can do for you. I don't have the address handy though.
 
I really don't give a shit how inconvenienced I am to play the beta. I just want the real deal to use PSN ID's like everything else.

You have to create a Konami ID and THEN a GAME ID for usage in MGO. There's two problems with this. One is that this means that you're NOT using your PSN ID like every other game on the PS3 uses. The second is that that the page was made by a jenkem-huffing retard. It's basically fucking impossible to even REGISTER because the page is so shitty and error-prone.

Konami I hope to god that it isn't like this when MGS4 actually comes out. You need to get your shit together for the beta.

i know you and others want them to, but i dont think they need to have it fixed by monday. there are plenty of people im sure that will be able to register just fine. me for example. i do agree they should use PSN in the final game though. or fix all this by June, not monday.

it is not a fuck up to the average person. when you load the damn game, you will be asked for your konami or game id. if you dont have one, you can load the damn web browser IN THE GAME and register for it. assuming they fix the issues people are having, ud have to be a fucking retard to not be able to figure it out.

I got to 90% before I left to work this morning, and when I got home, it resumed at 90%.

Wow, you might want to take it easy and take a break from NeoGaf.

Also, anyone who has done any sort of technical writing would tell you that the process should be listed in full in the initial instructions. From download to gameplay. It could, at the very least say: "Please enter your Konami ID. If you do not have a Konami ID, please follow the on screen prompts to register for one."

The beta starts on Monday. If they actually want everyone with a code to play then yes, they do have to have it fixed by Monday.
 
I had problems the other day trying to register (the bullshit about my email being already registered) and now when I try to register again I get the error "Due to a period of inactivity, the page has been deleted. Please click on the below link to return to the top page" and all I did was check to see if my Gamer ID tag was taken. I know this is only a beta but the registration process shouldn't be as bug ridden as it is. This shit is frustrating.
 
The technical writing on the form where you enter all of the info for you Konami ID/Game ID is also pretty bad. If you read it word for word, you might think it's necessary to use slashes, dashes, and periods. I know that's what I did.

My Konami ID was like Jtrizzy_gaf-12345.xxx until I deleted it and started the process over again. Fortunately I did this a few days ago when it was announced and didn't have to deal with the servers getting crushed. It's also weird that one password (Konami ID) must use numbers and letters, while the other (game ID) is numbers only.

The bottom line is that this is harder and takes longer than signing up for gmail/yahoo, and people have become accustomed to blowing through these forms with ease. People also need to remember that getting their ID's right now isn't really necessary, since the beta doesn't start till Monday. Just do it this weekend when there will be less traffic. These ID's are useless right now.

90% here for the 1.01 patch, so close so close just need 10% more. Once that's done I can worry about that konami website.

Reading the terms and conditions tells me that only the first 300 people to register qualify. On the 18th, another 600 people will be randomly selected. Ah well.

EDIT: And it says it's only open to residents of the United States. WTF... it gave me the option of putting in a province... :(
EDIT 2: There seem to be scheduled times as well... where the first 100 people after that time get a code.

So what is this stuff about emailing Konami if you have 9 digits I do with the key i got when i pre-ordered does that apply to north americans or is that for other regions and will my nine digit code work tomorrow
 
Wow, the demo defaults to 1080i. MGS 4 1080p native confirmed?

I just downloaded the beta and now I'm downloading some software update, which looks like it might take an eternity. Other than that, I have had none of the problems people are reporting here.

Yup, I posted in the MGO thread that I was getting native 1080p on my Panny... can't wait to see what the game looks like.
 
hahahahahahahahaha after 4 hours of downloading the update (87%) , a half second power outage shuts off the ps3 and there goes the download....

starting at 0% once again...fuck me, 6 more hours of this at 40kb....

why didn't they just integrate the update into the PS store download...
