Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

It was the perfect remake at that time.

This is so fucking wrong. Listen, I bought a NGC just for the TTS, I'd be the first guy to let you know if the game was amazing. It wasn't. It was MGS, with crazy Kitamura cutscenes, weird voice acting and badly implemented MGS 2 mechanics on levels that weren't meant to account for them.

You mean Krazy Kojima cutscenes. everyone forgets its their Lord & Savior Kojima who wanted them that way.

No, he allowed Kitamura complete freedom on that project. He didn't "want" them any specific way.

That said, I found them kind of fun.

The problem I have with Twin Snakes centers more on the fact that the graphics performance is poor and unstable, a lot of the modelling is ugly, the level design wasn't made for MGS2 style gameplay, and the controls didn't work all that well on Gamecube. I still enjoyed it, but it had issues. The GC was strong hardware so it was disappointing to see a rendition of Metal Gear that looked vastly inferior than both installments on PlayStation 2.

Beyond is not a game as in MGS GZ. It's a tech demo with spectator mode, IMO.

MGS GZ on the other hand is a full game, with its advanced physics, animation, scale and AI.
Not really. Physics and animations are pretty much on par between these 2 games. At least from what we have seen so far. Scale and AI make the difference though, although the view distance here wasn't that big to be fair.

We still need to see how both look on daylight.

this is all 100% fact:

ground zeroes is like the tanker mission from mgs2. just a prologue(like kojima said)
after a few hours it skips ahead and you're playing a mg1 remake controlling snake

you're welcome

Will this game limit you to one pistol and one two handed firearm at a time? Snake seems to have a holstered gun on his right and the big one on his left. Peace walker already had two firearm limit but no size distinction. Edit: ok some outfits allowed 3 firearms. Or two guns and a banana.

after a few hours it skips ahead and you're playing Big Boss with longer hair a few years later.

maybe fixed.

It sure would be interesting. I curious to see how gadgets work out. We already saw the map system as the holographic device. Maybe they are going for a Dead Space like interface. I'd also love to see more gadgets that you can use to interact with the world instead of getting past some sort of detection mechanic.

Very sad to hear Kojima say there are no plans to remake MG1/2.

Simply playing MG1/2 is not satisfactory to me. Fine games for their time, but they are hardly coherent/consistent with the Solid games.

How could someone not want to experience the two missions that made Solid Snake a legend in MGS style? Snake vs Big Boss. It would also serve as the connection between the Big Boss games and Solid Snake games: The end of Big Boss's career, the start of Solid Snakes. It is such a pivotal part of the franchise to not be remade in my opinion.

I'm actually pretty disappointing that Ground Zeroes is not a MG1/MG2 remake.
But fine, whatever, I guess after MGS4 a game to flesh out the dynamic between Big Boss and Zero is necessary too (I originally thought that's what PW was going to do, but nope). But the next game better be The Remake :(.

It's the bait and switch, don't believe anything Kojima says unless you want it to be true.

I'll never understand why Kojima does this stuff :lol

Fun trivia. When at New York for MGS4 premiere, everyone was being asked what do they like about the series and what's something unique to this series that others don't have. I mentioned all the basics anyone would mention... and then for some reason I decided to mention "weird sexualized sequences like Volgin dick-grabbing, naked Raiden, Meryl's ass" etc etc.

I was later told that Kojima was going to personally view the premiere video and listen to all the fan feedback. Fuck...

100% agreed with this. I kind of enjoyed the Kitamura scenes.

He made a mistake, and didn't make it again.

Yup.

Certain cutscenes in TTS are bad. I dont care who directed them...Kitamura, Kojima, it doesnt matter. Theyre just bad.
Some are much better, though....anything with the Ninja and Sniper Wolfs death, to name a few.

I also love the little touch of cheese when Grey Fox dies and Snake picks up the sword and says a few words.

Blackmamba, even juniors know to be polite and understand that no one can follow every thread of interest religiously ;)

For what it is worth, I have some serious doubts about Galvez. It just seems too obvious.

Sorry I've been busy and out of the loop, what evidence (or confirmations) supports that the man with the scarred face is Galvez from PW. Or are we talking about another Galvez?

Fuck remakes, there are already like seven canon games, how are they ever going to make new stuff if they're stuck remaking them all. Technology will always improve, as some bemoan the playability of MG1/2 now, more will with MGS1 over time, then 2 etc.

MG1 and 2 are available, you can play them as they are, they should stay as they are.

Not to mention Twin Snakes is already a remake of MGS 1 as well. Whether you like it or not because of its cutscenes, it still is.

Twin Snakes cutscenes are so much fun.

The scene after the Ocelot boss fight might just be my favourite cinematic of all time.

I think gaf has discovered a new perpetual argument surround mgs, being MGS1 vs Twin Snakes. If the MGS4 debates weren't heated enough.

From my knowledge, that is wholly wrong.

I don't ever want to see anymore blaming Kitamura for any more Twin Snake cut-scene BS, blame Kojima for making all the final decisions and asking him to direct.

PS. At least the cut scene's extreme nature fit well with Raiden's character w/him being an insane Ninja and all that.

I think at some point he will remake them into a single game. Like someone said before, enough time has passed to where those stories will be new to alot of the targeted audience.

The Mortal Kombat team did an effective job in retelling their MK mythology with their reboot last year. I could see Kojima going this route when he's ready. In addition to the signature plot points of the originals, he could pad the story out with familiar elements in the current series, such as the themed squads like Dead Cell and the Cobra Unit.

I don't know if 'remake' is the exact word for what I'd like, but I really want Kojima to revisit and update the MG1/MG2 storylines to better gel with the rest of the series. The actual level design, missions, boss fights, etc, can be all-new, I just want to play the game where Big Boss and Snake have their showdown, with the appropriate "Oh shit!" factor after all the games building up the two characters.

As it stands, the two MSX games are a really unsatisfying link between Peace Walker and MGS1, regardless of how many more prequel games Kojima wants to make setting up Big Boss' fall.

Oh, and I really do love me some Twin Snakes. I always feel that preference probably just comes down to whichever version of MGS1 you played first. To me, it's the voice acting in the PS1 version that sounds weird.

Thanks, but it is not mine, it was posted very early not by me!

Okey, I see the coincidencies.... anyone compared the japanese PW voice with the one on the demo? That will definetly confirm him... but it's a safe bet that it is Galvez...

Any other discoveries I missed? o just speculation so far?

Let's be honest here please. I am not being a PS3 fanboy, but seriously why people those graphics can't be achieved on PS3 and it was showcased on a high end PC. Let's begin with this point, don't count so much on this episode releasing on your platform. No one sees any clue it would. PC didn't get any MGS game since 2003, at least the Xbox 360 got the HD collection containing both necessary episodes (MGS3 + MGS:PW) to understand this opus. PC isn't even going to get MGRising, even Silent Hill Dowpour didn't release on PC this time. Maybe you will get Project Ogre or another game.

Second point, the first time I was watching the trailer, I thought it was a next-gen game then after Galvez adjusted the mirror of the jeep, I noticed the rough edges (The same can be noticed on the HAVOC chopper its motors and its internal pipes), then I concluded that it surely a game from this gen and on consoles. There are also sometimes visible aliasing (at least it is less noticable than in MGS4). If it was on PC, it would use tesselation and excessive antialiasing to correct the rough edges. Even the less spectucalr games with corridor areas and rudimentary details like Batman Arkham City and Metro 2033 used tesselation. I WAS EXPECTING AN ANSWER TO THAT, then, to my surprise, Kojima answered that (if you watch the GameSpot Panel), he said, if this game had been running on a next-gen console, it would have used tesselation to correct THE MIRROR'S ROUGH EDGES. I found that statement enough to answer every doubt.

But another question asks itself by then, will MGS:GZ be released on a next-gen console someday?

I think I may have the answer. YES, it will be surely on Durangoo, (like how many last-gen games were ported to the 360, Tomb Raider Legends comes to mind) to compensate the lack of A REAL sequel to MGS4 with an ATHENTIC NUMBER 5 in the title exclusively on Orbis. It maybe a sequel to MGS4 with Solid Snake or a dinosauric prequel with The Boss and The Cobra Unit at WWII or.... A remake to both MG1 and MG2 with the 100 underground stages of Outer Heaven (I hope not, it looks kinda boring if you ask me).

PS: Don't tell me Solid Snake's story is done. On PS2 we got the first game with Solid Snake, second game with Big Boss. The same is happeneing on PS3, I don't see why not the series not debuting on Orbis Solid Snake in MGS5. The smae stiry with GOW too, Kratos story isn't done yet. We got GOWA now, a prequel and next time on Orbis a REAL GOW4 as a sequel. I see developers like Kojima and Studio Santa Monica trying to play it safe at the end of this and not wanting to gamble on a critical sequel with this aging hardware. They want a stronger hardware to fulfill their needs for a big scale sequel.

I like the idea of playing that Snake/BB show down from BB's perspective as a great way to tie up the whole Big Boss/LET saga.

I want more Metal Gear, but I'd love them to completely write off everything so far and start fresh. If Kojima is ever serious about doing new games, he's going to have to hand Metal Gear off to others, and they should be able to start with a blank slate.

Can someone please do me a huge favor and sum up this 43 page thread?

Fuck it, I like Twin Snakes. I can't compare it to the original, but I like it as a MGS game. I think it's fun, and it played great. Some stuff was a bit off because it wasn't exactly what you expect (like some of the music), but it was a pretty awesome game overall.

I liked it better than 3 overall. It was more fun and special to me. I don't know if I played TS a lot sooner than I played 3 (which was like in 06') but it felt a lot more special to me, and felt more akin to what I liked in 2. I don't know, I mean I know gameplay is better in 3, but TS was more fun.

Bring it on haters.

I've never played TS and I never will because i'm a Kojima purist.

also @plastic-man your are making a ton of assumpion about the snak/bb/snake/bb cycle. I think they just make what they want to. I do agree that GZ on PC is a slim chance though.

Really? Come on you should really give it a shot, you're doing yourself disfavor by avoiding it just because Kojima wasn't completely involved.

Haha, what? These are video games people. Just play it with an open mind. If you dislike it, well then, you dislike it. Not a big deal.

As someone who waited hours for my copy of the original MGS on launch day, I really liked Twin Snakes.
