Metal Gear Solid V PC Performance Thread

Explain then.
In order to evaluate GPU performance, you try to eliminate CPU limitations as a factor. That means running at high resolutions and with the fastest CPU you can possibly get. This will (hopefully) cause the game to be almost or entirely GPU limited, and therefore give you the maximum possible amount of information about the relative performance of various GPUs.

Conversely, when evaluating CPU performance, you will chose the fastest possible GPU setup you can get and use a modest rendering resolution. This allows you to accurately compare CPU performance in a CPU-limited scenario.

Dat 680.

Yep, 680 still rocking it. Holding off for next round of Nvidia tech to upgrade.

Didn't AMD just release an Omega drive which was supposed to optimize everything once and for all?

It doesn't work that way, you have to have access to game source code to optimize drivers effectively, AMD doesn't have access to those when a game is Nvidia sponsored.

My specs:

AMD 8350
MSI R7870 OC 1050MHz
8GB RAM DDR3 1866MHz

I run it on 1080p with everything high and had 60fps most of the time. Plenty of dips to mid 30s when screen was populated and there was action.

Thank you that is helpful info.

That's not true.
Nvidia’s Cebenoyan responded directly to this during our conversation: “I’ve heard that before from AMD and it’s a little mysterious to me. We don’t and we never have restricted anyone from getting access as part of our agreements
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/05/28/nvidia-fires-back-the-truth-about-gameworks-amd-optimization-and-watch-dogs/

We don’t have anything in there restricting anyone from accessing source code or binaries. Developers are free to give builds out to whoever they want. It’s their product.”

Source code access isn't necessary in order to optimize as well :
Cebenoyan says that a game’s source code isn’t necessary to perform driver optimization. “Thousands of games get released, but we don’t need to look at that source code,”

AMD trying to cover their asses because of underwhelming performance in some games, shifting the blame to Nvidia while the latter does not match AMD in some recent games (Ryse) yet we don't hear them whinning about a fabled "sabotage".
Grow up AMD.

Well....but this is ported from consoles which are AMD GPU based to begin with...
or that doesn't help either?

i7 4770k with a 770GTX and 12 gigs of ram.

Model Detail - Extra High
Texture Detail - High
Texture Filtering - Extra High
Shadows - Extra High
Lighting - Extra High
Screen Filtering - Extra High
SSAO - Extra High
Effects - Extra High

Close to a solid 60fps. I may not need to upgrade my GFX card like I thought I would.

might wanna lower SSAO as it's a performance killer

Interesting. so my 780m Equipped Alienware 17 should handle it fine with a nice, solid locked 60fps, huh? Kinda Wish I could try for 120, but eh. lol

i5 760, GTX 650ti BOOST 1GB, 8GB RAM

Good results, 60fps playable with most settings on high, some frame drops but nothing too serious.

Double dip for me. Hope turning off screen space reflections will get me a locked 60FPS at 2560x1440 on my 780 ti.

So much for '4K compatible' :p

Sadly 21:9 aspect ratio resolutions are not FOV adjusted and crops the lower third of the screen. Still might be worth keeping an eye out over at WSGF for a Flawless Widescreen or WideScreen Fixer workaround.

Anyone with a single 970 tried DSR 4K performance yet?

Initial impressions of 2x DSR from 1080p on max: you can feel it's less than 60 at times, but otherwise it's running great. Haven't gotten too far into gameplay to see if it affects it.

it runs 55-60 for me on extra high /high settings i3 4360 3.7Ghz gtx 760 1080p

but i cant aim at all my mouse wont aim and my 360 controller wont aim

Massive. LoD distance above all else.

I was shocked at how bad the LOD was in the PS4 version that I played. It was a huge blight on what otherwise could occasionally be a fantastic looking game (although mainly at night, the daytime lighting wasn't so hot).

Now I have to see whether or not I can justify double-dipping on a game I didn't enjoy all that much to begin with....

Core i5 2500K @ 4.2 GHz
GTX 680 2GB SLI
8GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 8.1 x64

This runs flawlessly at locked 60 FPS with everything set to as high as it can go. Based Kojima.

... now I need to finally play MGS 1, 2, 3 and Revengeance, and watch a playthrough of 4 to catch up with the story!

:D

If you didn't enjoy the game on PS4, then it stands to reason you probably won't enjoy it on PC either. I mean, nice graphics are nice, but it's only one piece of the puzzle, and nice graphics aren't going to make a non-enjoyable game more enjoyable, unless they were hindering gameplay in some fashion to begin with.

Kind of sounds like you answered your own question. :)
