Metal Gear Solid V PC Performance Thread

Really debating whether or not to pick this up on the daily special. Have $60 in Steam wallet. I liked it on PS4, and I just got myself a new rig - but ehhhh

Allow me to provide a very useful infographic that answers your question.

The fact that I don't see my GPU on that list at all probably tells me it's time to upgrade. :(

So, how CPU dependant is this game? I have a great gpu (gtx 970) but my CPU is getting old (i7 870 @ 2,93 GHz). How will the game run?

AMD FX-8350
Radeon HD7970 GDDR5

1920x1080
45-50fps on average
- cutscenes mostly 60 with occasional dips, more frequent dips during gameplay
* indoor areas run at solid 60fps
* outdoors (in rain) dip into mid-40s, low 50s
Extra High settings

I've only played the main Ground Zeroes mission once. Have yet to try other missions; will update after spending more time with the game!

Played through the first mission on my PC, I have pretty outdated specs.

C2Duo E8400, 4GB Ram, GTX 460.

Game runs very smoothly with options at medium and low. 1080p, looks better than the PS3 version.

  • i7 2600k OC'd to 3.4ghz
  • 8GB RAM
  • Nvidia GTX660 SLI
Maximum settings at 1080p and it barely drops below 60. Slight stutter for a second or so when you use the longest zoom on the binoculars but that's it. Think it only dropped to 55/56 once during the intro. If TPP runs like this I'll get it for PC not PS4.

I don't like the keyboard setup though. A lot of separate keys to do minimal things. No mouse in the menu's is another oversight.

Apart from that though, A+ port Konami!

With 970 SLI I wonder if it will maintain 60 FPS with 2x DSR starting at 1440p. Does it affect input lag or sharpness if I do DSR less than 2x to achieve 4k instead of 5k resolution?

Getting 60fps with Model Detail/Texture Filtering on Extra High
Everything else on high(cept shadows at medium)
i5-4460
270x

I'm happy

Might as well cross post this:

Wow, what a port this is... I'm getting around 35-45 fps playing at 2560 x 1440 downsampled to 1920 x 1080 with Max settings for everything. Used RivaTuner to cap my framerate at 40 and the IQ is glorious.

i5 2500K 4.4Ghz
GeForce 770 2GB
8 GB VRAM
2560 x 1440

By the way, for the people who have gotten there already: Is there a difference between night/daytime concerning framerate?

COOLER MASTER HAF X Blue Edition

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO

EVGA 04G-2983-KR GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 ACX 2.0 PCI Express 3.0
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77
G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" ASUS Black Blu-ray Drive SATA Model BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Getting 60fps on max settings 1920x180 with some random dips in the high 50's.

You should really be getting more performance with that setup... My 770 gives me a solid 60 fps at 1080p..

60 fps cap is kind of a dealbreaker for me. I wanna work my new 970.

Then start downsampling right away.

By default game uses borderless mode. Be sure you use exclusive fullscreen to fully use your gpus.

Very impressive, I'm glad kojima is taking the PC seriously. I'm still going to get PP on PS4 because of my GZ save, and continuing the tradation of MGS on Sony consoles.

Meant to ask this earlier in my other post, but has anyone played this on a 144hz monitor? I know it's locked at 60 so are there any kind of 'judder' issues?

Hey guys,

My computer is getting a little long in the tooth at this point but I just triple-dipped on the game since it was super-cheap on Nuuvem. I also haven't played it yet because I am a terrible hoarder. Anyway, I have a i7-2600K / 8GB of ram / a 570GTX. Can I play it maxed at 1200p with a smooth framerate?

GTX 970 smooth as butter at 2560 x 1440. My jaw dropped on the floor during the intro. Made me realize that i can`t go back to console games now.

I have an i3-4360 + 7850.

Left settings at default on 1920x1080, which was high for everything, but shadows and texture filtering which were at medium. Getting 55-60fps. With the lowest dip to 50fps. I haven't pushed/fiddled with the settings much as the game looks fantastic. If you have the intel/amd combo I wouldn't worry much about performance.

Really hope AMD updates their drivers for this. Getting high 30s and low 40s maxed at 1440p and high 40s to mid 50s maxed at 1080p with my setup below.

i5-3570K
7970 GHZ (3GB)
8GB RAM

Seeing as a GTX 680 is getting 60fps max at 1080p I would think my setup should as well. C'mon AMD, want to max this and play it right at a constant 60.

Below minimum spec reporting in

This is an AMAZING port. Even better, I can run it well below the minimum specs some how

1366x768 30fps usually locked with exception of dips to mid 20s only when using binoculars at distance

i5 2430m 2.4ghz - Dual Core (4 threads)
4gb ram
GTX 525m 1gb

Every thing on low with the exception of screen filtering which only goes as low as medium.

Messing with it further, I can go up to high on effects and medium models, with same 30fps with the only exception being dips when using binoculars at distance to 17fps again for about a second. I'm guessing caching or streaming data with a lack of vram.

Still pretty impressed since I went into this expecting the worst

You may have to turn down some of the more expensive settings, otherwise will be fine.

Does anyone else have the problem with shift+tab not working? Basically it is like Steam isn't working. I can't take a screenshot either...

gat dammit, I just sent me 780ti in to EVGA for a step up to a 4GB980. I won't be back to give it a whirl until the new year ;_;

i3 3220 @3.3GHz
GTX 570
8 gigs of ram
and the game runs buttery smooth at default settings. Its not much but I'm happy about it, this was one of the games I was worried about. As long as Phantom Pain is in the same ballpark I'm good. Now to worry about GTAV though...

670 here. All maxed at 1080 and mostly getting 60FPS, though it does dip to 30s in busier scenes.

Can anyone tell what the most expensive effects are? I'd like stable 60 for my following playthroughs.

i5 4970k over clocked to 4.6 ghz
16 gb 1666 ddr3
gtx 780 3gb

1080p 60 fps constantly

downsampling from 4k 25-30 fps 20 fps when zooming in far away with the binocs. Trying to take screenshots at 4k with fraps would just crash the game.

Yea. I had to switch from borderless to fullscreen

steam messages/popups dont show though

Same, I'm looking into it, but no solutions yet. Not had this issue with any other games

Switching from borderless to fullscreen didn't change anything for me. Restarted Steam and game but nothing changed.

Edit: I made 2 changes and shift+tab, screenshots and messages work fine. I closed MSI Afterburner + Riva and i updated Steam to the beta version. Don't know which one did the job but i suspect Afterburner.
