Metroid Dread Trailer | Nintendo E3 2021

Not that i have a Switch, or intend of ever getting one, but if i DID have a Switch, i'd be so pissed after this when everyone for years seems to be waiting for Metroid Prime 4.
Metroid Prime 4 restarted production early 2019, so it's been only 2 years of development. It won't come out until at least 2023.

Prime 4 stuck in development hell for what feels like half a decade, but they can shit this out while still going "please be patient."

my Direct hype deflated the moment this was revealed.

I'm not loving the chase sections they showed off, was easily the worst part of Fusion. But aside from that it looks great. Love the improvements to the map, fluid movement (so long as knock back from hits is reduced), and better aiming.

Looking forward to this one for sure.

Not gonna lie, this doesn't look great. Also, Mercury Steam are just an "okay" studio. Visuals are very simplistic and I'm not a fan of the weird "run and hide" aspect of the enemies.

I'm a little surprized at people saying the game looks like a 3DS title. The graphics look pretty nice to me for being on Switch.

wow, a collective punch to the gut going from what seemed like an incredible FPS to 2D gameplay that looked like it could run on the Wii.

that was a cutscene..
the cutscenes looked way better then normal gameplay,

this is returns running in an emulator. Yes you are right.
But i wouldn't call dredd pretty in any way .

I don't care if it's a 3D 2D game...

METROID DREAD
IS FINALLY A REALITY!!!

Pray Praise The Lord GIF

Is the a phrase for when vaporwear becomes real?

Blame I believe Namco for this one. If rumors are to be believed, they were originally in charge of the project, however, they tried splitting it up between teams that were located world over. When Nintendo came to check on it after about a year and a half, the teams they had working on it were not in sync and what they had was a mess. So Retro Studios picked up the project and started from scratch. They've only been working on it sense late 2019 and we still see them hiring people to help work on the game. So I'm not really expecting to see any progress on it.

No one cares that you think the graphics are bad or that Samus looks weird (she looks good, in my opinion). We have been waiting nearly two decades for a sequel to Metroid Fusion and we are finally getting it!!

Fucking scalping bot using pieces of fucking shit both the ce and amiibos were in my fucking cart. I was literally checking out and it fucking crashed and said i cant buy it anymore. What a load of fucking horse shit. Fuck scalpers and fuck nintendos artificial rareness

Same thing happened to me :messenger_expressionless:

It looks good, Treehouse segment looked even better. I loved Samus Returns on 3DS and this seems like nice evolution of both that and Fusion. Looks even more fast-paced even. I'll try to get that Special Edition if it comes to Europe

Uhm, Treehouse footage with 20 mins of gameplay is a lot more convincing than the trailer. Nintendo can't make a trailer for shit, I always forget that treehouse is the real E3 for Nintendo..

I mean... I'm a Metroid fan, but this looked bad. Beyond the visuals looking like a 3DS game, the mechanic of running from generic robot enemies does not seem exciting. I did not get a feeling of "dread" from that trailer. They should have made it darker/creepier. I'm sure it'll be solid, but the trailer was a bad look.

I fully agree on this one. It looks like a good 2D Metroid.

This wasn't possibly 15 years ago? Enjoyed SR to a degree but this doesn't look much better.

I hope the gameplay makes up for the lackluster graphics. Samus's armor is fanatstic though.

Still think a first-person Metroid announced back to back with this one would have been one hell of a reveal.

Dont understand the people saying this game looks uglu.

Its not the best looking game out there, but it looks really good and has a great artstyle.

And if this is not selling well, it will be call METROID DEAD. Which will be a sign we wont see other Metroid games soon. 😉

This looks sa damn good. But I won't be getting a Switch for just one game that could've as well been ported on a mobile phone.

As long as it plays well and the level design is good, I don't give a shit about the graphics. They look fine, but not great. Still, this is the game of E3 for me personally. Not that it had a lot of competition, but still looks great.

I hope they bring back the speedbooster and the shinespark. Movement already looks really good and fluid but hopefully we have even more traversal options.

White suit looks awful, too bright and like it is full of bloom.

Graphic style does it no favors

I was able to watch this trailer more closely and it's almost everything I've wanted from a Metroid title, one of which is, ironically, an end to relying on Metroids in general. The guy speaking straight up said it's an end to that. "Metroid" could become something very cool where you get this style of adventure with new settings, new enemies, new abilities, etc. while maintaining this genre that people love. Maybe if it does well we could get a new one every few years.

I just wish it had gone in hard on trying to advance 2D visuals like The Last Night. But I guess that would likely be way more expensive, so I'll take this as well.

I hope this is basically a new start for the franchise.

People always loved the "being pursued by the SA-X" aspect of Fusion. A lot of games have done something similar (RE Nemesis, Alien Isolation, etc.), but there's definitely "dread" in feeling like you're never safe. At this point, that's on-brand for Metroid.

I think the game looks solid. I never played Samus Returns, but Mercury Steam's approach thus far has been in line with the natural evolution of Metroid and there's no other team bothering to make a sidescrolling Metroid experience.

While I'm a bit reserved, I'm on board. We've been waiting for a post-Fusion Metroid game for a long time.
