Why can't it be in the same universe? Not all Metroid games need to have Samus in. The series is called Metroid, not Samus.
That is like having a Zelda game with no Link. For me, I don't want a game like that.

Yeah, about that...
No Zelda or Link in that game really
I should clarify, main game title, not spin off. I don't mind this being a spin off, but does it really need "prime" in the title?

The point isn't "can or cannot save this game".
The question is: Should we save this game?
The answer is simple: no, we shouldn't.
It' a joke made to the entire fan base. You should non accept it, guys, in my opinion.
Saved? That's a bit dramatic, don't you think?
Don't see why not if it's a spin-off of that Metroid series.
Considering that there are people in this thread actively calling for the game to be completely canceled in order for Nintendo to "save face," which is probably the most ridiculous overreaction to any gaming announcement I've ever seen outside of Japanese cultural experts, I would say it's aptly dramatic.
right? like of all the shit to try to expand onI upset that it's based off of the terrible Metroid Prime Hunters.
Save? It looks fine to me
Nice first post. I'm a Metroid fan dating to the original game and I'm not offended by what they're going for here. I also believe the game will look a bit different the next time we see it. Looks like a fun spin off and I know we'll get a more orthodox Metroid in the near future.

tbh itll be a cold day in hell before i even think about going to bat for a gotdamn FPS on the gotdamn nintendo 3ds of all things, metroid or not
That's what I don't understand. Who has been asking for a third person squad shooter on the 3DS? At least put it on the Wii U where there's a second analog stick.

The difference has been explained many times but i think it should be repeated over and over.Pretty much my opinion. Metroid fan since day 1 on NES and I have no problem with this.
NO PROBLEM.
I mean, it's a spin-off, and it could be a really fun one. You didn't see me up in arms over Metroid Prime Hunters or Metroid Prime Pinball. It's as weird to me as a Zelda fan throwing a fit over Link's Crossbow Training, Hyrule Warriors, or Tingle's Freshly Picked Rosy Rupeeland. It's like being mad at Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Mario Paint. It's like a Final Fantasy fan enraged at Theatrythm, Dissidia, and Chocobo Dungeon.
Look, I hated Other M too. It's been a LONG wait for a "real" Metroid game. But this game isn't that game. It's a spin-off. A real Metroid will come, but like Tri-Force Heroes, I'm okay with something new, different, creative, and out-there to tie me over until the real thing arrives.

The difference between hunters/Pinball and this abomination is that Hunters and Pinball were released alongside a main Prime game. And because the main Prime games were so good, nobody was angry about the spin offs, they could be seen as little bonuses.
Now, Federation is being released without a main Metroid, not only alongside it but not even on the horizon. Add to that the fact that OtherM left a bad taste in our mouths and we just want something good to wash it off. To me, Federation is a waste of time and resources that could be used or saved to add up for a main game. If there was a main game with it, nobody would have a problem.
Metroid Pinball was good at being a pinball game. This looks bad at being a co-op shooter and even worse at being a sports game.
But the Treehouse demos and hands-on receptions from the press and gamers leaned positive. And the game is still a year away. There are games that made it out of beta which got a less positive hands-on reception.Metroid Pinball was good at being a pinball game. This looks bad at being a co-op shooter and even worse at being a sports game.
So you're saying the difference between Hunters and Pinball ALSO being abominations is simply timing? Because if we had another main Prime game this game would suddenly be better in your eyes? That seems like a rather unfair criteria to leverage against the game. The difference has been explained many times but i think it should be repeated over and over.

I think it's ridiculous to think that "time and resources" are being wasted when it's obvious nobody working on this game, aside from maybe the producer, was ever going to work on a "real" Metroid Prime game. It's a spin-off. It's not being made by Retro Studios anymore than Prime Hunters or Prime Pinball were. And the producer, like Zelda's producers and directors, are more than capable of working on multiple projects at a time. Now, Federation is being released without a main Metroid, not only alongside it but not even on the horizon. Yes, Other M was AWFUL. Yes, this is not the game I expect to "wash out the taste". I need a real, meaty Metroid for that. But this? This is an appetizer. I'm fine with appetizers.
It doesn't matter if this becomes the best Space Soccer Shooting minigame Collection ever, because its nature is the actual problem.
Such hyperbole. An unreleased, portable spin-off multiplayer game is an "insult". As if they're sitting around planning on offending you, personally, with their game design choices.Or it's all you get from the franchise for another 5 years. Until Nintendo announces otherwise, there's no reason to believe that they are just hiding a real Metroid game elsewhere. So right now, FF is nothing but an insult to the Metroid fanbase.
Just like Metroid Prime Pinball? Or Link's Crossbow Training? Or Warioware?
Why must a spin-off be exactly like the genre it was spawned off from? That's WHY it's a spin-off in the first place.

If Federation Force is all we get in 5 years, fine. I want more (I ALWAYS want more), but they've already stated this isn't what they have planned for a full-resource Metroid game, but they confirmed there are plans.
Nintendo's own figures put Metroid Fusion at 1.6 million copies sold.Fusion is no where near 1.7 million units sold lmao.
Yeah, about that...

No, you see, it's totally different because you're a different boy who looks exactly like Link rescuing a different girl who looks exactly like Zelda. Just like Federation Force stars a different hero who looks exactly like Samus... Or not. Huh.You're splitting hairs. You play as 'link' with a different hair colour in that game.
Garlador pretty much said it better than me. Tanabe is like I have lots of ideas for Prime 4 but it's not something we're actively doing to me means we're not doing it on Wii u because duh.LOL at people saying Nintendo has a real Metroid game in development that they're just not showing us.
People were saying the same thing E3 2014, can we cut the crap and realize that Nintendo has nothing Metroid-related planned outside Federation Force?

Zelda, which will be smaller than Skyrim.
I don't particularly care about the game whatsoever, but I do feel bad for the developers. Going from Luigi's Mansion 2 which everyone loved to a game everyone seems to not just hate, but hate with an absolute passion. Has to be rough such a reception to your game.
Those are all Link lolYeah, about that...

No, they're Lonk, Lank, and Lunk. Those are all Link lol
80K dislikes on that video. Holy shit, lol.

It's kinda crazy. But hopefully sends a strong message to Nintendo; people want Metroid, but just not this kind of Metroid.

Nah it just sends a message that the Metroid fan base are loud, whiny and should be ignored.
