I'll give you my reason. Here in Chicago, she was an executive at the University of Chicago Hospitals, and I know a few people that worked with her. They said that she tried her hardest to make sure that the hospital avoided providing any care to uninsured or poor patients. Of course, that's just what I've heard, and it could be false.

She worked at the hospital as the Director for Community Affairs and then as VP for Community and External Affairs. Pretty sure that position excluded her from any input on hospital billing procedures.

You'd probably be wrong, first ladies were traditionally given politeness if not gentlemanly respect. Some people think because she uses her station as first lady to speak out on social topics that she's fair game, because she's essentially a politician. But Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan and Jackie O and Pat Nixon were probably never booed. And of course not Lady Bird Johnson. Hillary Clinton was, however, and I'm guessing Mrs. O is ok with being held in that regard.

It may not necessarily be that she had any say in it, but her attitude and opinion was against it.

It just goes back to that one simple creed: It's okay if you're a Republican.

It's why Hillary/Michelle-bashing goes on with little fanfare but Nancy/Barbara/Laura were untouchable. Hell, even Chelsea Clinton got a ton of shit from Rush and crew, and Glenn Beck was mocking the Obama kids a while back.

Generally the media expects more out of Democrats, whereas angry Republicans are just "principled."

Exactly, the only ones are Hillary and Michelle. And Michelle is way different from power-suit Hillary. But she's still a former corporate executive and she's still black, not a socialite or a housewife. So she's 'dangerous'.

Although after Katrina, and Barbara Bush's comments "They should be happy that they have homes now" or something similar, I did hear people in some circles insult her, but she never got booed either. People were just surprised that her fluffy white exterior covered some pretty stark opinions.

I think there are way more factors involved than just saying that she was against helping those uninsured. For instance, what type of load would that have created and would it have compromised care for their other patients. I know that Rush Medical Center is about to help out with the Cook County system, but they have a brand new, huge hospital that will be opening up early next year. Managing a hospital is tough work, where tough decisions have to be made that not everyone will agree with. That said, it sounds like you are basing this all on second hand information, so I personally would not put too much stock in it.
