Microsoft confirms no PC Alan Wake: Reasoning? "LOL, COMFY COUCH".

Yeah there is really only two reasons to not release a PC version:

1. You think PC piracy will force you to lose overall sales in the console world.
2. You are trying to push 360s.

Either case is extremely unlikely, which is why I simply think this will be a timed exclusive.

They need exclusives on the 360 in order to keep people excited in the platform. Sony has a ton of exclusive games to point to in an effort to sell PS3s and of course Nintendo is in 1st party exclusive heaven, so MS need to compete. They need to be able to be able to advertise the games they are publishing as being "Only on Xbox 360". It may not be "fair" but they have a console to sell so I doubt fair enters into their mindset.

Got to watch and play the game yesterday. While my full preview will have to way for a few hours, I can already say that technically this game is maybe at the top of what I ever saw running on consoles this generation. It's definitely up there with Killzone 2 and Assassin's Creed. I was in awe most of the time, it's just crazy how much stuff they managed to get into their engine while still having it run already almost perfectly smoothly (still some slight tearing from time to time, but the final build should be better).
I've always been a big fan of Remedy (ever since Future Crew) and how they could push hardware like no others, but I wasn't expecting this game to be that impressive in terms of lighting, draw distance and effects.

Interesting. I'm guessing the lighting is it's strongest feature for the engine?

Should probably post that in the other alan wake thread..lol
This isnt the best particular one to update with anything resembling positive feedback.

So am i :(

The truth was a jagged line crack through my brain. blurry textures pasted on the wall, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. Endless steps on every straight edge, reality itself splitting and tearing as I peered around. The sluggish feel of someone controlling my every step with a clumsy stick. I was in a console game. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.

The problem with comparisons like that is that you're seeing it in a thread on a computer screen. Everything else on your screen provides a sharper frame of reference that makes it look really bad. Just like when people would post images of how old consoles used to look on NTSC TVs through rf/composite and people would say 'it never looked that bad on my TV!'.

I believe the Riddick game was 540p and that game's PQ did look like shit.

Consoles work just fine on monitors and HDTVs can make excellent monitors, so honestly I think this point is rather moot. Moving further back from the TV, is not a legitimate way to increase image quality. Anything that goes as far as possible to reveal the true image of the source material is going to be a better base for comparison. If I rendered my games at 1/4 native resolution, you better believe the difference will be that stark.

I'm providing a reason, not an excuse. Plus like you said people usually sit farther from their TVs than they do from their PC. I sit really close to my plasma though so I do notice how shitty games like Riddick with their sub-HD res look.

Fair enough.

BSODs are not really a problem on Microsoft operating systems since Win2k/XP unless you have a shitty unstable motherboard like me.

hilarious that you're using system instability as a reason to play something on a 360. rrod beats bsod on every count imaginable.

I'm glad I don't have ridiculously high standards. It's helped me to enjoy so many games.

and if you develop cataracts you won't give any kind of a shit. wooooo low standards!

But it's not 540p. Remedy have confirmed that it renders at 720p.

What's it like in Bizzaro Land? They've commented a few times on the issue now and the closest we've got to any confirmation is a complete reluctance to simply say it isn't 720p.

I hear reading comprehension is at an all-time low there.

I guess PC devs program games for higher resolutions which is the reason why the 540p screenshot looks so crappy. It also confirms this whole resolution argument is BULLSHIT.
