So I logged in with my Live ID which is my Gmail email, I can send email from Outlook.com and they appear as if sent from Gmail, but if replied to, the replies go only to Gmail and not back to Outlook.com's inbox.. GG

Anyone know how to get the Pop/IMap settings for this? I just signed up and I'm using Mail on my mac, got no idea how to configure it for this address.

I set it up in mail with

Incoming Server (POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com

for the new page.

You need to go into Gmail and do an email forward to your Outlook email.

pop takes a minimum of 30 minute to download

Looks okay so far. Went ahead and signed up using my real name in case I might need it as well as an additional one for non-business/important things. name @ outlook.com does look pretty good when written down.

FYI, quick you guys go snag your Alias names before they get snatched up by others. Once signed in the upper right, click the Gear icon, then go to More Mail Settings. On the next screen in the first section click Create Outlook Alias.

note : You can create several alias's.

Basically, I already have my Microsoft Live ID I signed in with, and it has its own email. However, now I also snatched up firstname.lastname@outlook.com, mygamertag@outlook.com and a few others.

When GMail first launched I got the same names, and still to this day have people offer to buy them off of me. I recommend GAF go snatch up your Outlook.com alias as soon as possible. Basically once you set it up, you can set the alias to dump emails sent to it into your mail Inbox or subfolders tied to the alias.

Essentually you sign in with your 1 Live ID but can have access to emails from all alias's as well. Do it.

Yeah this could definitely be a professional email account. Time will tell if it gets on the same level as gmail from a utility perspective.

Made 2 aliases. But still effed my hotmail accout from the account menu. My fault I know.....

Will MS redirect mails??

Got my full name, a screen-name, and another screen-name that is seen as a child account right now. It's a wash.

I love the Outlook UI. I've hated the new Gmail redesign and the awful side bar roll up.

I figured how to manage the folders, RIGHT CLICK works. Although you can't sort how the folders are displayed.

I'm on the cusp of switching from gmail.

These are the main features I need first.

1) Archiving button(1 click) from the message
2) Sort Folders with hiding. (Why is the Junk folder just below my Inbox)?
3) Tighter Calendar integration. Calendar display in the right pane.

Made an account and a few aliases just to reserve the names.

Also went ahead and linked the account to my Live account I had setup for XBL/GFWL.

Cool, changed my hotmail email to the new outlook and they automatically put emails to my old email in a separate folder. Was wanting to change my old account's crappy old name for a while now.

being able to link account and fast switch between them is pretty cool. if i can do this with my gmail then i am set.

I guess i could keep it as an optional email. Both this and Gmail have this nice simplistic look. Also i got automatically redirected to an inbox because i was already signed in to live.

Perfectly happy with Gmail and probably won't use this, but I signed up anyway to piss off my like-named doppelganger(s).

Is it possible to change your existing Live account to an Outlook account?
Click on the gear symbol>more e-mail settings and either choose to make an alias(and keep your live account) or rename your address, which will change @live.com to @outlook.com.

Been using hotmail for 10 years love it....hate gmail...using outlook.com now don't really see the point of this also it's ugly aka metro ...I really hope this doesn't replace hotmail...ever

Seems nice, it doesn't appear to spy on your emails at the extent that Gmail does. (according to a Mashable article I read).

I set it up in mail with

Incoming Server (POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com

edit: incoming works, looks like I need to figure out outgoing
re-edit: It's working.

Doesnt the mac mail (and most other clients) support eas these days? that is a far better way to connect than pop or imap because it will sync contacts and calendars as well as mail.

Damn. Wish I had known this before making the other account. I wonder if you can merge accounts or completely delete one.

Edit:

You can delete the account but it will take 270 days after you first close it. During that time you can sign in to cancel it if you change your mind. If not the name becomes free after that time. Not worth it. Better to just keep the two accounts.

You can delete, but I don't know if that makes it re available as an alias.

It looks like there's also the option to set up other email accounts to recieve in Outlook.com account as long as you know the POP information.

EDIT: Nm, perhaps the linking accounts mentioned above would accomplish the same thing without shutting it down.

Hopefully it gets a bit bigger. I mean, I love Gmail and all, but I feel like Google is absolutely #1 in this arena and they are fully aware of it. That can't be pushing them hard enough to make cooler shit. I want cooler shit at a higher frequency Google, get on it.

google kinda pushes themselves..without competition though..... and Considering MS is just going to follow what Google does, I don't see it enhancing features in Gmail...

I'd like for someone to entirely one up google, then it would be interesting.

This is pretty nice. Like the skydrive and document access.

Hopefully once skydrive gets updated they will allow us to attach/link files directly from the outlook app. win8 can do that with the contract feature but it would be nice to have that from the web as well.

Not too interested in Outlook, but I made a bunch of accounts with my name for professional purposes anyway. Might come in handy.

yeah, i signed in with my hotmail address and made an outlook alias with my first name only!

What does an alias do for you? Is that the same as having firstname@outlook?
