Holy shit.

Just for fun:

MBA 13" 1.7 GHz dual core i7 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD = $1449

SP3 i7 8GB RAM 256 GB SSD + SP Type Cover $1549+$130 = $1679

(I realize there are other differences.)

Apple charges $300 tax for the 512 SSD upgrade
MS is charging a $400 tax for the 512 SSD upgrade

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
Glad I waited on the SP2. I'll be picking up one of these asap.

Could be nice as pdf and comics reader. Always felt that 10 inches is just a bit too little for those tasks.

Didn't the SP2 only come out a little while ago? Plus I thought these were selling awfully. Why do they keep announcing more expensive models?

But I guess once these come out the older models will drop in price which will give me the incentive to upgrade... I made the mistake of buying an RT a while back because it was $100 cheaper and I didn't realise how closed off it is...

N-trig digitizer is one of the biggest letdowns ever. Would have been perfect if they stuck with Wacom. I guess I will wait and see impressions from artists.

I was totally ready to start selling my Pro 2 'n accessories, and possibly one of my kidneys, until I heard this:

Did he just say only 256 levels of pressure? My stream stuttered, I really hope he didn't.
And then this just kind of obliterated my hype entirely:

wtf wtf wtf they switches from Wacom to n-trig. Ugh I beg Wacom was charging for way too much money to license the tech. This was almost the perfect art tablet. Fu ms, fu Wacom.
:(

Otherwise, beautiful piece of hardware. Love the dimensions, and that click to OneNote thing.

No Wacom according to Engadget, no buy for me :/

Didn't someone mention this not being that big of a deal in the other thread?
The Surface digitizer's corners had a lot of problems with Wacom, but I don't think the solution is a 256 point pressure solution from whoever else.

256 levels of pressure is enough for most artist's needs, that's not the problem. N-trig just sucks at accuracy and the pen tip feels like ass.

I wonder how the screen quality compares to the Nokia 2520.

How many pressure points was the Surface Pro 2/wacom? I'm pretty ignorant about these things.

Seems 'pretty cheap' to compare it to the MBA and not the MBP Retina

i want to see a comparison between the SP2 Wacom D and the SP3 N-Trig using some drawing program like sketchbook, corel, photoshop.

As for the included pen, it's said to weigh about the same as a normal ink-based pen, but we can't vouch for that until we get hands-on. With this generation, too, Microsoft switched to an N-Trig digitizer -- a departure from its usual Wacom tech.

Such bullshit! I wonder how much it had to with the surface pro 3 cutting into that cintiq companion business at a cheaper price.

I think I would prefer a slightly smaller screen and a 4:3 aspect ratio, but this looks pretty good. It's too bad it's still a bit overpriced, I'd probably be okay with it if the Type Cover was packed in.

I guess I'll be looking for the Pro 2 after this thing releases. The weight and screen seem decent, but I want more than an i3 and N-Trig. :/
