Mirror's Edge E3 2015 Trailer, Releasing February 23rd, 2016 [Up: Info]

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DICE™, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) studio, today announced that Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst will be available February 23, 2016 in North America and starting February 25, 2016 in Europe. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst immerses players in the origin story of Faith, and her rise from a careless young woman to a heroine who opens the eyes of an entire city. Featuring fluid movement and combat in a massive city where you can run free and explore, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst adds a new level of immersion to action adventure games by putting you in the first person perspective. You are not just watching Faith’s fight for freedom, you will experience it through her eyes. To watch the reveal trailer from E3 2015 for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, please visit: http://mirrorsedge.com.

“When we set out to bring Mirror’s Edge to a new generation of gamers, we knew we wanted to deliver on the potential of the first game – building an iconic heroine in Faith, bringing a beautiful, stylized world to life, and delivering fluid first person action,” says Sara Jansson, Senior Producer at DICE. “In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you will get to feel what it’s like to glide across the skyline of the city. You will get to know what it feels like to be a projectile who plows through your opponents. And you will get to experience Faith’s story.”

In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you will experience the rise of Faith, a daring Runner who uncovers a hidden truth within the walls of the city of Glass. Through her journey, Faith will explore every corner of the city, from the highest, most pristine skyscrapers, to the dark and gritty tunnels that lie beneath. Players will need to master the environment, using their momentum and timing their combat to fight the oppression of the ruling elite, uncovering the dark secrets behind the city’s beautiful façade. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gives players the freedom to explore the entire city, discovering a variety of new activities, like ‘Dash’, races from point A to B, environmental puzzles and story missions to complete at their own pace.

For players that want to show off their perfect technique or how well they’ve mastered the city can pre-order Mirror’s Edge Catalyst to receive the Combat Runner Kit or Speed Runner Kit*, respectively. The Combat Runner Kit includes unique in-game items including a combat-themed Projection Shader, changing how a player appears in their friend’s game world, a Runner Tag to stand out in the leaderboards, and a unique background to customize a player’s Screen Hacks. The Speed Runner Kit also comes equipped with a Projection Shader, Runner Tag and unique Screen Hack background, but the features are more themed to the speed of their skill.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be available at retail and for digital download on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Origin™ for PC. Faith looks fantastic. Also, combat is unfortunately back, so I hope it is not awful like in the original.

extremely pretentious. should have just been mirrors edge 2. 'catalyst for change' against the big corporations? EA with their usual lack of self awareness.

developers are really bringing the graphics this e3. looks great. the story stuff seems uninteresting though. looks like it'll have the typical big-brother, free-your-mind, wake-up-sheeple tropes and a lack of subtlety with them.

Concerns:
1) Too much focus on combat? Might be just for selling it, ie the final game could offer more other stuff. My memory about the amount of combat in the original is vague, i only know i didn't care for it really.
2) "Ubisoft open world", that is i fear it will be that, meaningless stuff to do instead of making actually interesting world.

Otherwise it looked really good.

This will probably be the best game ever made but sell like shit.

Looks SOOOOO good. Free-roaming is something a lot of people wanted for the first game but I like the linearity. Interested in seeing some extended gameplay.

Cautiously optimistic. Glad they didn't give her a gun..
It's a bit weird that they went with a prequel after the first ended
with a slight cliffhanger..

/edit: Also, "In-Engine Footage" doesn't mean anything..

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
Dammit at being open-world. I loved the linearity of ME1. The experience will be so much more diluted now.

i would have preferred another linear game as well but if this game provides distinct and clear paths throughout the world i'll still enjoy the hell out of it.

Hopefully this doesn't get plagued by the open-world design of "game litter" everywhere.

Wasn't that the case for the first game too? I wasn't expecting anything more.

I'm not sure what to feel about Rhianna Pratchet's storyline in the original being less hamfisted than this.

My only worry is that the trailer was in-engine. What will that melee combat be like when actually playing? Anyway, beyond concerns of that ilk, heck yes Mirror's Edge.

Faith is so good.

FAITH SO GOOD.

EDIT: For all the people upset this is open world, isn't this, like, one of the best gameplay concepts to apply to the formula? Free range of motion, dynamic parkour, and choosing to get from A to B however you want?

Because this sounds incredible to me. I can't think of a better implementation of the tired formulae than this.
