I love Xenoblade Chronicles X and if we never get an finish to it because of this (supposedly) grander scale game? I'm actually fine with that.
Where did you read that this game has a grander scale?

Well, they're recruiting a lot of people and each new Monolith game is bigger in scale than the previous one, so...
I think they have said that XC2 will be smaller in terms of world size than XCX was.
Takahashi actually said there'd be more places to explore than in X.

In terms of variety sure but i was talking more in terms of world size.
Man I hate this kind of news
Now I will be hopelessly hyped for years
XenoSouls?
What?
It is incredibly souls like: religious imagery; atmospheric, dilapidated ruins; an ornately armoured medieval-style knight standing solemnly with a broadsword, bearing a tattered cape with an insignia.
Pretty interested in seeing how this turns out. I think Monolith could benefit from going full action (or turn-based). It'll be curious how their focus on big monsters and big, vertically impressive spaces carries over into a medieval setting, if it does.
Is this Monolith expanding to do another project alongside the Xeno-games or are they just going here next?
Monolift Soft have enough talent to make that setting interesting. I just dont want them to gut the story and have an avatar protag(notice the heroine in the artwork isn't facing forward) again. The part with "understanding of western entertainment trends" is lame. Medieval setting with story fitted for the West sounds boooooring.
Medieval Monster Hunter... I'm game.Didn't think of that...bigass unique monsters with acton combat, yessss. Monolith's monster design is so good.
Medieval Monster Hunter... I'm game.
That reminds me, are we getting new gameplay videos from gamescom? I'd love to see more of the game.
For Xenoblade 2? I think I remember them saying they were going to show it off but I'm not sure the details.
This totally works for me. I'd be interested in their take on monster hunting, but even this action rpg project has me worried a bit as the actual combat has been the worst part of their Xeno games. I guess that's why they're staffing up though.Medieval Monster Hunter... I'm game.

Taken from the website. They are recruiting "action game staff" in particular, and the individual recruitment pages for the action part programmers and action part battle planners specify desired action game experience and responsiveness and enemy AI as things they want to emphasize. For the battle planners, they are also looking for those with an interest in medieval fantasy and understanding of western entertainment trends.
A knight in front of a castle now equals Souls... ok.
It's like people discovered castles and knights by playing Demon's Souls. You'd be surprised to know that Miyazaki was inspired by Berserk, Bram Stoker and George R.R. Martin.
Monsters reacted plenty to your attacks to xenoblade, go play xenoblade again, they even have a point of comparison of attacking mechon or incredibly high level enemies and they dont react to monsters that normally do.I'm glad the recruiting notice specifically mentions enemy responsiveness. In Xenoblade, I really didn't like how there was no impact to my attacks. Enemies just seemed like giant stock hit boxes. I guess that's a big difference between rpg and arpg.
Well, the knight is alone in a courtyard seemingly reclaimed by nature. The mood is sombre, there are no signs of other life. The armour and sword are specifically reminiscent of Dark Souls compared to say, the Witcher or Dragon Age.
I see the argument you're trying to make, but in this particular case you'd have to force yourself to not make a Dark Souls comparison.
Monsters almost always stand still and absorb literally hundreds of hits throughout a battle and they flinch occasionally. XenoX had it even worse where you're literally pumping them full of bullets. I might as well be fighting a cardboard box. I'm just not into that style of combat representation. But Monolithsoft is boning up on arpg experienced staff and I don't expect the same issue with an arpg.Monsters reacted plenty to your attacks to xenoblade, go play xenoblade again, they even have a point of comparison of attacking mechon or incredibly high level enemies and they dont react to monsters that normally do.
Do they react to every attack? No, because theres always 3+ characters attacking the monster at once and the amount of stunlock if it did would be stupid.
Dark souls was not the 1st to have that either, you know.
It's ok to be wrong sometimes. This totally works for me. I'd be interested in their take on monster hunting, but even this action rpg project has me worried a bit as the actual combat has been the worst part of their Xeno games. I guess that's why they're staffing up though.
I know people are tired of Souls comparisons, but there's a good reason to expect that at least a portion of the project is influenced by the success of the Souls games - when they're looking to specifically hire experienced developers who have good action game experience, who have an interest in medieval fantasy and western entertainment trends, I think that shows they are trying to tap into an audience outside of the typical fans who already buy Monolithsoft style RPGs. Less anime, less JRPG mechanics, more direct control, classical fantasy.
Obviously that doesn't mean this will play anything like a Souls game, but the tone is probably not going to be that far off the sort of direction they're looking at, audience wise.
I don't!Who needs Capcom.
nah I kid we still need 'em.

Basicly this. And Nintendo having more western-like projects is a very good thing.
Eh, Sawano does that all the time without ever thinking about the West....and rapping...
I assure you the rapping isnt part of trying to appeal to the westNintendo having more actual western studios would be better.
The last time Monolith attempted a more Western style game we ended up with an odd mix of realistic environments with eccentric anime character designs... and rapping, and neo LA.
I think something more in life e with the last story than dark souls IMHO
