Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate release date trailer (March 19th)

Awww WiiU exclusive!? Definitely a system seller if it is.

Any chance it will be on the 360, PC or PS3?

Some other Monhun? Eventually, probably... maybe. The three systems you mention havea MonHun of their own.

This particular one? I don't think so...

^^^ I believe it does but don't quote me.

My biggest concern is that using the Bow and Bowgun on the 3DS will be gimped due to the lack of dual analogue sticks ( no running and aiming simultaneously) I know there's a solution, but the Circle Pad Pro on an XL scares me and ruins the portability in my eyes.

Well there is a comfortable claw solution with the digital dpad.

Really looking forward to this, friend of mine loves this game and recommended I play it if I loved Souls' difficulty and combat. Didn't get very far into Tri because it didn't grab me, so what with the lack of games on Wii U I intend to give this a real shot. :)

Oh God, not the claw??

Well it's on the right side so it's just a slightly unfortunately placed d-pad camera, not an OG claw

You can pre-order from Capcom and get a Wii Classic Crontroller Pro for free.

That's a bit silly. It's understandable due to the Wii U Pro Controller being much more expensive, but some may be confused and think that it is the Wii U Pro Controller. It doesn't say you need a Wiimote in the store to use the Classic Controller Pro.

And I just had a realization. Do you guys think the Wii U Pro Controller was made for Monster Hunter? I remembered that they made the Pro version of the Classic Controller for Monster Hunter Tri. They released the frankenstick (I forgot the name lol) for the 3DS for Monster Hunter Tri G. I think it's safe to assume Monster Hunter Ultimate for Wii U is a big factor to creating the Wii U Pro Controller.

There needed to be a cheaper equivalent to the Game Pad so the Pro Controller HAD to be made for multiplayer purposes. It's possible anyway, but games like CoD probably needed it more and sooner what with the clicky sticks on other systems.

Wait Wiimotes work with Tri Ultimate?
Probably only as a means to hook a Classic Controller in. I'd have to look into it though, but I imagine the Wii Remote + Nunchuk controls of the original were mainly there because they couldn't FORCE you to buy the CC to play it, but this time you have at least the Game Pad, so screw putting motion controls in to placate a very small, odd minority.

As far as i can remember Tri barely had motion controls to begin with (Im not even sure it had any).

The wiimote + nunchuck contols were truly great and intuitive, I played the game at least as good using those as with the classic controller. They didn't use motion controls in the usual sense but they did require you to move your wrists a little bit. Attacks still employed the attack buttons but the effects were different depending on if you angled the Wiimote left or right. So, to do combos with the great sword you alternated between left and right tilt while mashing the A button, to do the slash + dodge right or left move with the longsword you angled right or left and pressed +, etc. The only issue was that the button placement isn't ideal, for example said + is a little awkward to press, but I'd say it's no more awkward than + on the classic controller anyway. Anyway, the controls are great regardless of the device used. I'll be a little sad if the option isn't included in Ultimate.

Yep it's been too long since i've played Tri, forgot about the Wiimote angling although after i while i found i stopped doing that and i was still able to use every attack available to me (Either that or it became second nature and i simply forgot i was doing it lol).

I found the general layout of the Wiimote + Nunchuk more suitable for MH than DA, camera control and dodging felt a lot easier for one thing.

Oh, guess it was milder than I thought. Knowing that it's original control scheme involved using the right stick for attacks I kind of expected the worst, but they clearly weren't trying to return to that (seriously) with the Wii Remote afterall.

Pretty sure you can move that around, so you can put it where it feels most comfortable.
He probably just meant that reaching into the touch screen isn't exactly as comfortable as a right stick in a normal controller, but of course still much better than a claw.

What needs to be learned exactly? Using certain weapons on specific monsters and such? I really don't know THAT much about this series.

Patience is what must be learned. You need to study the monsters, find openings in their attacks and what not. You are heavily punished if you attack at the wrong moment, because most weapons will make you commit to an attack that has a long animation. Learning what element is good against certain monsters is great, as is learning to work with other people.

Most new players bail out early because they jump into fights with monsters and just start hacking away. This results in them never killing anything and they themselves die quickly. You have access to very little gear in the beginning as well (you craft through forging and through carves you get from monsters you kill), which means you'll have dull weapons and fights will take quite a long time against many monsters. It can be very frustrating for players not to be able to overcome a monster with just their brute force.

What items you need to combine, the right gathering/mining spots, what items to bring to what level so you don't spend the whole time losing HP, how to draw out the monsters, planning routes, etc.

Well, learning each weapon is already complicated enough. I'd post gunlanceflowcjart.jpg but I'm on mobile. Then there's learning a monster, then after that how to use your weapon type on that monster.

There's also learning how to armor yourself for each fight, what items to bring, what items you new to gather to craft those items to bring... it's a very complicated game and impressions are right that you need to sink in 20 hours before you even decide it you like the game or not.

Well, you'll want to get a hang of the weapons first, which can be done by beating up on some little guys.

The thing with MH is, some go into it with a hack and slash action game mindset... which results in a kitty ride to the QUEST FAILED screen. MH is more methodical. You need to watch the monster, know it's movements, read for openings, and then take advantage of that opening without getting too greedy with hits.

And that, in the end, is why MH is so rewarding. I've said it many times, when you take down your first larger monster you get a rush unlike any other game can give. And after that point everything starts to click.

So there's a lot of strategy and planning involved that needs to be learned. Cool, I like that kind of stuff luckily. I'm sure I'll be willing to give it the time to figure things out. Thanks everyone!

Don't know. My guess was they were waiting for the actual date to be announced. It was revealed yesterday so maybe they'll put it up soon.

Actually, Sven talked about bundles... he said they are trying to get some kind of bundle deal at some retailers:

"We are speaking with certain retailers about some small savings for consumers if they preorder both SKUs and pick up both 3DS and Wii U SKUs at the same time on the same receipt but there's nothing solid on that yet. First step is that Gamestop needs to set up the 3DS SKU which we've been asking them to do since we announced the game in September. Now that we've announced a date I'd expect that to happen quickly. That's what we call a "soft bundle" in the business, but there's no single package SKU that will include both platforms (a hard bundle)."
