Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate release date trailer (March 19th)

No hardware bundles? :(

AFAIK, it was never about reach but damage. Diablos' head took very little impact damage in Tri - is this different in Ultimate?

Well for me I always went after the horns. But yeah the highest damage zone on Diablos was the base of the tail if I remember right.

Luigi's Mansion date next please.

Why do I sense a(nother) delay?:(
God I hope not!

Either way nothing can dampen my spirits with 3 Ultimate on the horizon.

Now will upgrading to the 3DSXL be worth it? One of my co-workers recently upgraded to a 3DSXL and I have been considering it. Though I have the Zelda 3DS so I'm very hesitant about trading it in. But I feel like playing 3 ultimate on a larger screen might be worth it.

It's an action game. RPG elements are limited to equipment and skills granted by that equipment. Your character doesn't level up, though.

You accept quests/hunts, and go out the area to complete the objective (usually kill a large monster or capture it).

The gameplay. It's a methodical... well, tactical I guess, action game. You can't go up and just slash at the monsters to win. That's the quickest way to lose and I imagine a large reason why many don't follow through with the game. You have to watch your target and look for openings, and then think about how to the best of your abilities and equipment to capitalize on that opening.

It's an incredibly deep and VERY rewarding game. Each kill feels like an accomplishment, and it gives you a sense of that like no other game can.

Hmmm, not quite sure how to answer...there are similar elements but Monster Hunter is its own kind of game IMHO, I mean it pretty much started the 4 player quest/hunt games Japan keeps trying to copy. Can't really write a detail explanation of the differences.

I believe playing is more easier to understand the differences, have you got a 3DS or Wii U? There will be a demo at Feb 21st, be sure to try it out, then.

Thanks for answers. It sounds pretty awesome to me and will definitely be downloading the demo. Seems cool how the gear lends you skills. I'd imagine at times you almost have to hunt for gear too to take on certain monsters that need capturing/killing.

Is there any reason to buy both the 3DS and WiiU versions? What are the differences between them?

Online for the Wii U, local only play for the 3DS. Wii U and 3DS can play with each other locally.

We're buying two copies of the 3DS game and the Wii U game. That's a 3DS copy for my wife and myself, and the Wii U game so we can play online with other friends. I think I'll resist the temptation of buying a second Wii U. :P

Will buy this game for WiiU, first Monster Hunter, but the problem is that all of my friends don't have a WiiU.. I can play online with other people around the globe who are willing to play a game which isn't a millitair paintball game aka COD?

Could someone avatarize this?

Also, is there a list of all the monsters that has a confirmed localized name?

Yes. There are plenty of lobbies up every night with people playing Tri and that's been out for almost three years in NA.

Source image ain't so great. Best I could do without retracing it altogether.

Will probably pick this up on 3DS. Not feeling too good about the lack of online multiplayer though :/

I definitely think it is. Lots to take in environment-wise and you'll probably keep some UI stuff on the top screen as well.

Hmm, I actually wanted a bigger list. :/

But that's not Qurupeco! It's a Crimson Qurupeco, it's veeeery different. :P

Well, if you can't create an avatar with it, make one with the best remaining monster. The choice is yours. :P

I'm doing a series of blogs with all of the localized names, so just hang tight. :P

I still can't decide between MH3U for Wii U or 3DS. I'm not a big MP guy, would the game still be good SP only?

I imagine single player will still be worthwhile , but playing with others gives the game a lot more longevity. That's how I felt about MH Tri anyway. It just feels lonely playing Monster Hunter on one's own. Although, you'll get two AI companions to help you out on your quests instead of just one in MH3U for Wii U/3DS.

Yes, much more than previous versions. Having ai that can distract a monster and give you some easy hits is a godsend. In early MH, I would fail the 50 minute quest because how fucking much I was dodging and being defensive or risk running out of potions.

Ultimately though, multi is where its at. Especially if you hope to be playing two months from now as you struggle for rare drops. Killing things in 7 minutes with a full group that would take you 25 or 30 alone just feels good.

I didn't play any games online before MH1 but that's what got me hooked on it. I'd go for the WiiU version and keep the option open in your case.

This game shall be mine.

If someone could point me towards or write up a list of changes/additions Tri -> 3 Ultimate that would be swell.

I guess I'll wait for the demo's and decide, but most likely I'm leaning towards Wii U.

Some more quotes from Capcom Unity:

Yes; both GamePad mic and headset options should work. USB headsets are still to be confirmed though.

I'll get more details on the online feature of MH3U soon (hopefully early next week) so I'll make a blog post about it. Stay tuned.

Tri was my first Mon Hun experience and I played it for well over 200 hours purely in single player. I never even went online as I found the gameplay so satisfying I didn't need to go to the online aspect. However, I shall be getting the Wii U release of this iteration and plan to do both single player and online.

If multi-player is not really your thing [it's not mine either] you do not have to worry about the single player lacking in content or enjoyment. However it is a very marmite game so I think you are wise to try the demoes first. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :).

I actually had Tri too and didn't really play online much, but I gave up on the game far too early - that's why I'm wanting to give MH3U a chance! I've really wanted to get back into it. Glad to know that you can pump in 200 of SP into it!

Clocked a total of around 775+ hours on Tri (Although that was a combination of Online and Offline with greater focus on online play once i had finished offline play. When i just felt like obliterating something or needed to farm up some materials then i went back offline again).

Oh good :) you won't be a complete noob and will have some sense of what to do and how to do it then. The game just really clicked with me so I can easily see how some gamers get almost addicted to it. Really looking forward to the demo and even more to the actual release. I am very tempted to go for the digital download purchase given how much play I will get out of the game. Even if I have to pay full price and could get it cheaper at retail it would be so much more convenient to have it on my Wii U all the time. If I get another 200+ hours of play out of it [which is likely given I will be doing online too this time] then that will be very good bank for my buck GBP even at full price :).

So I've put like 80 hours into MHFU since getting it on my vita. I'm really interested in this but I wonder if I should just stop playing MHFU now and just wait for ultimate, or is there enough difference between the two that I'll still have a good time even if I pump another 100 hours into the game I got.

Depends how much MH is too much MH for you personaly. Many people put ungodly amounts of hours in monhun games and that doesn't seem to prevent them from enjoying the next iteration. I'm not exactly hardcore myself. I've probably only have about 600+ hrs in tri, I've just gotten back into unite (installed it on my vita as well), and will probably put a cple hundred hours in that before ultimate comes out and devours all of my free time.
But, yeah, different people have different levels of tolerance for it before they burn out. I'd say keep playing if it still feels fun? 80 or 180 hrs doesn't sound like way too much time or anything.

They are quite different, but I would stop if I were you, you might get burned out. Unless you are not planning to get MH3U anytime soon.

200 is an understatement. MHFU ran me 500 hours and still going. Some people even managed to go past 1000. Content wise, this game is close to MHFU's content and it has G-Rank so... yeah it's going to keep you busy for a long time.

Everyone seems to forget that the 3DS version supports StreetPass to exchange guild cards.
I KNOW I KNOW
It feels like even Capcom has forgotten about it themselves, don't think they even wrote anything or told anything about it XD.

Yay, we can play it online together, at least you're one of my UK Monster Hunting Wii U friend =D, I hope it's not region locked online =(, would like to see the pros from around the globe teaching some things to me XD
