I remember reading about this. The photographer left after he took the picture (apparently some photographer's code of not interfering with nature) and took his own life a year or two later.
its a shame that out of the hundreds of photos taken that day on Omaha Beach only a handful survived because the developer rushed the process in his excitement to see the photos.

Everyone's just going about their day.

Not interfering with nature???? Hope that is not true, I would kill myself to if I just left a little starving/severely malnourished child to be eaten by a vulture.

Man... on the one side you can understand it, after all is that beach filled with angry Americans who'd probably shoot you on sight and it was his job to defend the beach, but on the other hand... there's something wrong with shooting people that are so hopelessly defenseless.also this wiki article is fascinating for those interested in the mg42

Those black dots are fucking trees.
I guess only ominous if you know already that the red car is filled with 500lbs of explosives, and will detonate moments after this photo was taken, killing 29 people and gravely injuring over 200 more.
Tourist picked a hell of a spot to get his picture taken. This is from the Omagh bombing, in 1998.
Joplin funnel clouds forming.

Apparently she was instructed to hold her child close so that the Nazi would only have to use one bullet. Good lord.
They are all already dead :l
Pro tip? when the water goes out, when it really really goes out. don't hang out on the new beach. GET TO HIGH GROUND MOTHERFUCKER.
Those black dots are fucking trees.
I've seen this photo dozens of times. And each time, I double take, as I initially think that Thom Yorke has been Photoshopped into it.
If you ever search the rabbit hole of /b/, you can see everything from that day. EVERYTHING!
I've been watching a lot of sad documentaries on youtube lately, and I don't know which one was more sad. The 2004 thailand tsunami, or the joplin tornado outbreak
(yes....I did it)
Which documentary did you watch on Joplin?
Wouldn't an ominous photo of a tsunami be the tide receding before the wave comes and not the actual wave?
