Movie scenes so good, you don't need to see the rest of the movie.

Immediate first thought has to be the Gonna Fly Now montage from Rocky. What a perfect scene, the whole film is a masterpiece, but this scene is iconic for good reason. (Fantastic to watch before a run)

Following that would be the finale of Cinema Paradiso. I believe one could watch and appreciate the wonderful final scene
Watching the film reels in the cinema.

Batman's fight scene in BvS

The sniping battles in Enemy at the Gates

Inglorious Basterds is amazing, but the opening is among the best openings out there. I'd be happy just watching that over and over.

The dinner sequence in Django Unchained also rocks in the same way.

Hudson Hawk's Swinging on a Star scene:

What's the one terrible film that ends in the guy, having triggered a pressure mine, with a tiger running towards him, in the middle of a Colosseum, detonates the mine off and sends all of the above (plus some amazingly well-placed Coca Cola machines) off in a ball of flame?

Dude, what the hell. Double Team is amazing. Rodman's best!

I still haven't seen BvS, but I did see a (probably shortened version of the) scene where Batman kicks a bunch of ass and possibly kills some people. Scene's awesome.

For reasons either that the scene was just too superb or that the rest of the movie sucks, what movie scenes can you watch over and over and don't need to watch the rest of the movie?

For something that was just too good, we have Spider-Man 2's train scene:

I still don't think any other superhero movie has shown heroism as well as this scene.

Even for a movie about superheroes I don't understand how what Spider-Man does here makes any sense. Tobey being there is irrelevant—what's doing the work is the apparent super-crazy tensile strength of the webbing. If he shot webbing on one side of the building to the other around the front of the train it'd be doing the same amount of work as what he's doing, and he could be shooting even more webs to slow it down faster.

Versus the Spider-Man "ow the pain" scene in Homecoming—same basic idea, but Spider-Man is actually pulling the two sides of the ferry together so his action actually makes sense.

I know many don't share the same affection for The International as a whole as I do, but a casual observer could watch the Guggenheim shootout scene and leave satisfied.

This is on my list of "most underrated action films" near the top. In addition to a strong cast and solid acting, the locales and art direction are incredible.

I also love "Oblivion" for some of the same reasons. Good performances, cast is great and the art direction/CGI are fantastic. I get that people are turned off by the "Tom Cruise doing more sci-fi" aspect though, understandably.

The shootout in Heat.
Hallway scene in Oldboy.
House of Blue Leaves in Kill Bill Vol. 1.
Final shoot out in Léon: The Professional.

Don't get me wrong, all fantastic movies I'd gladly watch all the way through. But if I'm pressed for time or something, I can watch those scenes and feel satisfied.

The intro to Backdoor Sluts 9. Right from the start, I'm interested. Then I get more interested. Then I get REALLY interested. Then suddenly, no interest at all. Strange, still haven't finished the movie.

Yeah, basically all porn movies have a scene like this :)

The opening scene in Scream. Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie overall, but that opening scene with Drew Barrymore is like a master class in horror. It even works on its own as a short film, really.

can we not do this

not everyone has seen every movie. What film/scene is this.

No Country For Old Men. The hotel shootout. Incredible scene. The only reason I disagree with it being here is that it implies you don't need to see the rest of the film. You most certainly do.

I sometimes like to watch one scene from My Own Private Idaho.

It's when our two main characters go to visit Mike's brother/dad who lives in a trailer. Just a great section in the movie. There is no good youtube video.

I don't wanna back-seat mod, but it would be great if those of you who are posting images could post the source as well. You know who you are.
