The Mist [2007] average to above average throughout most, the huge ass creature at the end was pretty and goddamn sad ending.

An American Werewolf in London [1981] good movie, really like designs of the characters in it

Suspiria [1977] pretty good overall but the soundtrack was really good imo

Return of the Living Dead [1985] i really like this. BRAINS! MORE BRAINS!

Fascination - Rollin vampire flick

Criminal Lovers - kinda crime/horror/fairy-tale hybrid

Sheitan - about a nutty family, but much better than Frontiers

Brotherhood of the Wolf - action/horror period piece, like a steroidal Hammer movie

Thanks, I'll check em out when I get the chance.

Anyways, the past 2 days I've seen :

Never saw it before, decided to give it a go. Not really a fan of the "hand held camera" gimmick and this didn't change that. It's weird because I enjoy camp, just don't like it when it feels amateur. For what it's worth though, there were some genuinely creepy moments. Read about a sequel, not exactly sure why anyone would be interested in seeing one.

I only saw this once, like 10 years ago, so it "felt new" as I had forgotten a lot of it. I still enjoy it quite a bit, although, I do think that it's a little uneven at parts. I really like the slow build up though.

I saw Nordwand the other day. It portrays the attempt of two German mountaineers climbing the notoriously dangerous 'Nordwand' of the Eiger. Becomes nightmarish pretty quick. Solid movie, though the parts about the semi love interest and her sexist boss were a little weak compared to the climber's story.

I had to reverse my sleep cycle to sleep in the daytime for an entire week after I watched Paranormal Activity. :lol I refused to sleep at night.

That's why I stopped watching it. :|

If you haven't seen the ending, you should give it another go - the slow build up is exactly what makes the ending so shocking, without the build up it's nothing.
How does that make any sense? All that happens in the first hour is that a widower finds a new wife who's emotional and wanted to be a ballet dancer. They could've done the same thing in half the time.

Thank You Gaf for introducing me to this movie. It will sit next to A Prophet upon release.:D

Can someone recommend more foreign mob movies?
Shadow boxing the credits was an awesome ending.

The Show Must Go On and A Dirty Carnival.
And for the hell of it: Kung Fu Hustle. :D

Was going through my foreign movies and re-watched:

CP2 was way better than the first one, not that that's saying much.

Also not a movie, but I watched some old Alvin and the Chipmunks episodes today. Good shit, Zomboid Rigidosis.

How does it not make any sense? Maybe they could have told the same story in half the time, but that doesn't detract from my point that without the whole 'widower auditions for a new wife' premise and the turn it takes as he discovers more about the woman he subsequently falls in love with, the ending wouldn't have had half the impact, at least in my opinion. The film sets itself up as a slow paced, contemplative drama for the first hour, before pulling the rug from under the viewer at the films climax. Personally it's one of my favourite Takashi Miike movies because it's understated and so different from the majority of his output.

I watched Magnolia last night and while I enjoyed certain shots and some of the characters I couldn't shake the feeling the whole movie was basically Short Cuts, only more ham-fisted and with a bunch of gimmicks thrown in. It was also overly long and self indulgent imo. I thought Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, and John C. Reilly all did an awesome job though.

This is my all-time greatest movie of the forever. Watch it every other week.

The Women (1939) With Joan Crawford.

Well, it was interesting in that there weren't any male actors at all. Knowing that it was made with actors who were denied roles in Gone with the Wind made some parts make more sense.

Has anyone seen it? Also it has Paulette Goddard who is freaking gorgeous. (NSFW?)

It's a collection of stories dealing with the fragility, vulnerability, and temporal nature of romantic relationships. Oh and it's also my favorite movie of all time when combined with Fallen Angels, as I consider them to be one film.

mind blown. the only thing i can think that's annoying is hearing california dreamin 900 times, but there is no way i'd take the 1st story over the 2nd, it makes the movie for me

Finally got to see Never Let Me Go tonight. Loved it.

I'm split I absolutely love her and would love to date her, but the shit she pulled at his place was ridiculously obnoxious and childish.

"Like most German movies"? The fuck you on, son?

:lol Ah cmon man most german movies suck … i can only think of like 3 or 4 that are really really great (kirschblüten hanami is one or "das experiment")

Trick 'r Treat

I skipped this ever since it was released but gave it a shot yesterday out of a halloweenish mood. I thought it was actually really enjoyable. Lot's of old school charm to it, especially due to the make up effects and the classy plot lines. If you dig 80s horror and are sick of torture porn and cgi this ones for you.

You ought to seek out more movies. Reducing a country down and calling all of its movies down seems a tad silly to me.

well you know as a german i think i know what iam talking about - most of the german movies are cheaply produced, most actors lack skill and most german blockbusters simply suck. Let me give you some examples of bad (and or overhyped) german movies:

Das weiße Band
Keinohrhasen
7 Zwerge – Männer allein im Wald
(T)Raumschiff Surprise – Periode 1
Nirgendwo in Afrika
Anatomie

of course there are movies like berlin calling or kirschblüten hanabi that are so great you can´t acutally believe they are from germany :lol

I too live in Germany and i disagree with you that German cinema is worse then others. You don't like crap movies, don't watch crap movies. What do you expect from mainstream cinema and b-movies?

Have you seen any of the classic German cinema yet or DEFA? I don't think so otherwise you wouldn't make such statements.

I agree with you tho that "Das Weisse Band" is overrated and overhyped. I think it works better for foreigners who don't get tormented by the lack of any accents or the wooden speach of the actors.

Ilsa, She Wolf of The SS [1975] pretty good. I wish at the end
when the girl that got boiled was about to stab her, I wish she would of in like both eyes and the eyes were stuck on the knick or something equally awesome. Random dude coming in and shooting her wasn't enough justice for that evil bitch

I drink your blood [1970] i found it to be a pretty good film as well. lol at that boy way of getting back at the satists

From Beyond [1986] good movie. would be pretty interesting for that to happen IRL and see that way forever :lol

My Name is Bruce [2008] I went thinking a nice comedy horror combo or whatever came away disappointed, lackluster as hell. I laughed a lil bit and the chinese demon was pretty cool but overall the movie is pretty bad

Decided to take a little detour from my binging. caught Food, Inc. Quite a interesting movie. Any recommendations that are similar to this docu in one way or the other

Creepshow: I'm about 90 minutes in, and I think I'm simply not the right kind of person for horror movies. I don't get scared or go "ooh, wow!" or anything. I just get bored. Maybe 'thrillers' are more of what I need?

How to Train Your Dragon - what a beautifully animated film. Excellent soundtrack as well. Overall, I preferred TS3, but this will likely become one of my favorite Dreamworks film.

The Bad Sleep Well - Great film. I was a little confused during the first half of the movie, but it came together really nice in the second half. I am sad though because I am slowly running out of Kurosawa-directed films to watch :( Also, really liked the artwork for the DVD:

King Corn, Big River - two docs by a single team, their tone is pretty close.

Watched Fulci's The Beyond last night and was pleasantly surprised at many points of the film. :lol It had been about three or four years since I watched a shitty VHS scan and the new DVD looks glorious. Made the gore much more effective, even if you could see more of the appliances in the effects. FUCKING
TARANTULA
SCENE.

Creepshow is a movie-movie. It's not really a serious horror movie. It seems more suited to children (I mean that in a good way) or to well-versed fans of the genre. A similar error in classification would be thinking Sin City is representative of noir films.

If you are looking for something in the horror genre, along the lines of thrillers, maybe you should check out some 'giallos': mean-spirited, stylish, Italian crime flicks, usually centered on some sort of fetishistic killing in a whodunnit plot, featuring wild plot twists and outrageous death scenes.

Pretty good take on the "stuck in a room" formula, but it gets a bit too crazy too quickly considering they're only in there for 80 minutes. Still enjoyable, though.

I watched Predators, the new one.

I am now curious about the Predator Civil War thing.

Just watched "Funny games" for the first time. I dont know what to say. WTF at the ending. To anyone thats seen it.
What was with the whole rewinding on the remote? Breaking down the 4th wall? Did the woman survive as she cut the rope tied around her hands?

Anyway, I gotta admit, I was on the edge of my seat throughout. And I REALLY felt for the characters. Overall, it gets a 9/10.

The entire movie is basically a satire of Hollywood thriller morality--the rewinding bit was just rubbing it in.

IIRC, she was still tied up when she was thrown overboard.

between King Corn/Food Inc- quite fascinating how works in farm country

As for horror-

Carrie- good movie. man she was pissed off :lol

Big Tits Zombie- japanese horror, it had it's moments but far too much irreverent bs. The first section with japanese chicks kicking the shit of zombies and I was like FUCK YEAH this is sweet then the plot wandered off into fail zone and semi came back only to go out in style. Overall average to below average

home alone II

watched last night for the first time since i was very young.... still hilarious.
Haha, good memories. I rewatched those two movies so much when I was growing up around the holidays. And I still watch them both every holiday.

Watched Ballad of a Soldier (1959). I believe this is the first Russian film I have seen, and it was amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. Very likable main character, and a touching love story. I would have liked to have seen a little more closure with Shura, but it did not detract from the film.

had a pretty epic saturday, had a badly sprained foot so i stayed in and watched some new blurays i picked up last week

Psycho
Casablanca
The Thin Red Line
Apocalypse Now
Seven Samurai

How many of those were for the first time?

I'm ashamed to say that I've only seen Psycho out of those, but I will be watching Apocalypse Now in November. It'll be on IW so that'll be cool. Casablanca I'll get around to some point, and the other two are also on IW.

That is definitely an epic line up. I love all of those movies except Thin Red Line, which I've yet to see.
