AND even if the documents were proven to be perfectly innocuous, you still go to jail for destroying evidence. Its the DJ Khaled statute.

Exactly.

When have they ever cared about a good look. I'm surprised Trump hasn't just fired him yet. There's no consequences as everyone on the right will defend it.

No consequences? How can you say that? We're in the middle of all of the consequences of his actions up to this point. It's like saying "oh I guess you can just run red lights all day long and nothing will happen" in the middle of the car crash. No one's dead yet and you aren't in jail at this point but shit is happening.

then they will find out about the scrubbing, and it'll be even more flagrant. whatever else he did, Nxon knew not to destroy the tapes.

More flagrant maybe but it wouldn't necessarily violate the order.

Any document these days exists in multiple places, and requires multiple people to know about it being destroyed, removed, or deleted in order for it to be destroyed, removed, or deleted. Even if they do a 100% perfect job of erasing every trace of a document (which is all but impossible) they need to rely on actual human beings to keep it a secret.

It's not gonna happen.

Not just reformat but also overwrite all of it multiple times.
Sure but then the legal side gets far more complicated. They would then have to subpoena intermediaries who don't necessarily have to give up data. AFAIK don't courts usually side with keeping private communications private unless their's like a murder or something?

Of course not. If they have enough cause to get a warrant, which they almost certainly will if these people start destroying things, all bets are off.

People still respond to these as if this band of idiots has a reputation for being good at doing bad things. Their incompetence extends to every aspect of their lives.

Yep, at this point I would not be surprised if huge amounts of incriminating evidence are being couriered to Mueller from Trump himself.

I think if you're ordered to preserve documents then immediately destroy all the documents it's probably a bad look for you.

Not just a "bad look", but criminal obstruction of justice and destruction of evidence.

It is really, really bad.

The preservation request is broad and includes text messages, emails, notes, voicemails and other communications and documentation regarding the June 2016 meeting and any related communication since then.

Hey Manafort, remember when you were "on your phone the whole time" instead of paying attention to the meeting because it was so unimportant?
