My fiancé is unconscious

I was just thinking, as horrible as this situation may seem, people in worse have come out alive and healthy. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head and is doing relatively well now. Just some perspective when you're contemplating your fiancee's chances.

Seriously scary situation. My thoughts are with you and your fiancée.

My fiancée also recently drunkenly fell down some strairs while wearing high heels. I didn't realize how potentially serious it could have been.

Hope everything turns out okay for her in the end. Brain injuries are fucking scary.

best wishes to you, her and her family.

just remember it wasn't your fault. forget the coulda, woulda, shoulda. just deal with the now.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I know it's easy to blame yourself, but it isn't your fault. Any set of situations could have arisen. My prayers are with you.

I got a couple hours of sleep. Pulled up three chairs in the waiting room and slept across them. Her father and grandparents are with her now. Only three people allowed in at a time. I'm okay with that for now. Need a minute to stretch and clear my head.

Talked with her mom for a while trying to figure out the whole story of what happened. From what we gathered we are guessing it happened too quickly for the partygoers to realize what was going in. That's probably why the stories are mixed up.

Only update on her since last time is she's not allowed to drive for at least six months. Can't exercise for two months. Might have to take a few weeks off of work.

If it helps you feel any better, my sister-in-law was hit by a bus while cycling in Berlin. She landed in the hospital for a while with a skull fracture and various other similar issues. It was extremely terrifying but she managed to fully recover since the accident. The first two or three days were really rough, but she improved very quickly after that! :)

It's amazing how fast the body can heal itself.

I'm so glad things seem to be approaching 'ok.' Even being a stranger, this kept me up last night and to just imagine actually going through this with a loved one is hard enough.

I'm not religious but I hope for your sake that this all turns out alright. From the sounds of it that seems likely at this point.

My thoughts are with you and your fiancée

She's still up and down. She keeps asking for someone to bring her laptop because she's got work to do.

She asked a little bit ago if the paramedics cut her shirt off. Her dad pulled it out of a bag we were given, clearly cut in half, looks at the shirt, looks at her, says "um, nope."

Horrible story, but I am elated she appears to be turning the corner. Stay stong for your lady, she needs to feed on your confidence and energy.

OP, sorry to hear about your fiance's accident and wish her a very speedy recovery. I would call up her parents and let them know right away. You wouldn't want later on for her parents to be upset with you for not informing them. Stay strong...

That's a little funny. You've all really lucked out on this one. Here's to a speedy recovery and an awesome wedding and life together down the road.

Hahahaha, it's awesome that she's thinking about work at a time like this. You've got a tough girl man. You both dodged a bullet, as soon as she gets out of this make sure you LIVE like you've never lived before brother.

you should rebuy the shirt for her. could be nice :)
I'd love to, but it was from a vacation at Panama City Beach a few years ago. I'll look around for another, fingers crossed.

She's been calling around apologizing to the people who were at the party, for ruining the night. I keep telling her not to worry about it but she's shrugging me off.

You have my sympathy for what you have been forced to go through.

It might just be her way of coping with what's happened.

I hope she makes a full recovery so you can start pretending she has amnesia without feeling any guilt...

"Oh, you used to love to dress in the "naughty schoolgirl" outfit..."

"Oh, you used to love going out to the bar with me to drink brews, watch MMA, and eat chicken wings all night."

ect. ect. ect.

;)

This might be a dumb question but couldn't you have the tshirt sewn back together?

This will turn out to be the real life version of fifty first dates.

I'm actually going there on Tuesday (I grew up in Panama City and moved away when I turned 20)...I'll be there for 5 weeks (visiting family and I have a sis that is having a baby)...I don't mind looking around for that shirt! PM me if you can.

Yes, that was what I was planning on, but she loved the shirt and I would like to have it for her without battle scars.

She's having some short term memory loss, but the nurses here are saying they've never seen someone recover this quickly from a head injury this serious before.

She is having a neck CT tomorrow morning to check blood flow. Me and her best friend are staying til they kick us out (were told "830 is the official time to leave, but unofficially? We'll see").

She is most upset about not being able to drive or work out for a few months. Really amazing how fast she has recovered across the day. From literally foaming at the mouth trying to breathe (we were told later that it was unlikely she would wake up) to being alert and active for ten minutes at a time... Thank you all for the prayers and positive thoughts.

She asked me a few minutes ago if we could watch some Archer on Netflix.

Wait, so she is up and feeling okay?

Glad to hear :) :)
I don't know how okay she is feeling, but she has been relatively alert for about an hour now. She was on morphine for most of the day, but now they are moving her onto Tylenol.

She used to work as secretary in the ER she was originally taken to, and she's calling them now to update them on her status. She's tough. I bet it's not often they hear someone calmly telling them "I have a broken skull, a concussion, and a brain bleed, but I'm doing alright."

This is why GAF is so damn awesome :D Crunched, I'm glad that she's doing better :)

GAF really is awesome sometimes.

Random question OP, is she on Yaz for birth control? My GF had some serious blood clots that sent her to the ER a couple years ago. The doctor told us they were most likely caused by Yaz. He mentioned seeing quite a few young women come in for seizures because of that medication. We were lucky her clots didn't travel to her brain.

Hang in there. GAF's thoughts are with you.

She takes Reclipsen. She used to take Yaz, but it's been years.

Morphine really puts you in and out of a daze and can cause confusion and hallucinations - it's no wonder she wasn't too coherent with that combined with some brain swelling and the like. It's good she knows a bit about trauma so she's not too freaked out about it. She sounds like a keeper - life's given you a traumatic lesson on not taking people for granted.

I was reading this thread before I went to sleep last night and checking it was the first thing I did when I woke up. I'm glad things are looking up. I'm just wondering if the marriage is still going ahead in June!

Glad for such a dramatic recovery after a potentially deadly accident.m

Not to be negative, but google "c-diff" and be sure all staff and family are being safely hygenic.

Your gf seems young, vibrant and healthy, but I lost my 71 yo father this past ocotober after he caught a hospital infection that turned septic. It can touch all ages.

The sooner out of the hospital the better. Again, glad she's recovering so quickly.

We've both worked in hospitals for a few years, so we've been asking lot of questions and keeping an eye on staff hygiene. The rest of this hospital is pretty dirty, but the SICU is good.

She's not on antibiotics so right now there's not much worry about c-dif. I don't know if she'll have to take any for her fracture. We've been told at this point to let it heal itself.

I will probably end up taking the week off of work. Her best friend is spending her spring break from grad school with us to help take care of her.
