My thrice removed anonymous source says that it's impossible to produce PS3!

I think it's rushed. If the 360 wasn't around, Sony could release it in 2008 and be fine. The PS2 is a cash cow and still has some nice games coming out for it....imagine if there was no PS3 in the works.

are people actually going to invest in the first run of PS3s anyways, especially with probably a very paltry lineup for games?

Of course people will, just like they invested in the first run of Xbox 360's.

What makes you think it'll be paltry? This will probably become more obvious from E3 onward, but I think it has a good shot at having the largest first-month line-up for a system to date.

I'm amazed anyone is thinking the PS3 is being rushed, especially compared to the mess Microsoft made of the 360 just to get out the door ASAP.

Paltry lineup?
The games that seem to make launch sofar would make a great november for a matured system as I see it. Warhawk, Resistance, RR7, Hot Shot Golf 5, Tekken, UT2K7..etc.

I bought a 360 at launch and I really didn't get that much use out of it until GRAW.

But the PS3 does have more titles I'm interested in.

The PS3 is going to have a huuuuuge launch lineup.

Not only the first & third party exclusives listed above, but a lot of the 360 games slated for the fall will go multi-platform.

Don't forget the PS2 games that will actually work on the PS3. :P

If Sony delivers as promised and we get PS1 and PS2 games at 1080p on PS3 that alone will be enough for me to justify a launch purchase.

One thing I don't understand are those folks hoping for a 3-4 month delay so that there won't be any shortages. Like it or not, unless Sony can push 4-5 million units into just the US and Canada this holiday season, and that's no exaggeration, there will be shortages.

This launch is going to be absolutely insane. Basically multiply the 360's hype by 18, and you've got a pretty good idea of how in demand I think the PlayStation 3 will be.

I have bet a ban on no ww release in Nov. I assume US and Japan in limited numbers, Australasia getting hillbilly-raped and Europe being somehow marginally molested. Worldwide there will be units almost everywhere by say, March 2007.

But full launch, worldwide in Nov? Don't be silly.

Everyone at my EB has been telling customers that Sony took out Blu Ray and Ps3 got delayed to Spring 2007. It's also gonna be $700 without the BRD.

:lol :lol I try not to say much. I just shake my head.

I agree, i don't expect every major territory to get covered on day one, but you're forgetting about this new thing Microsoft invented called a 3-month "launch window". Within the "launch window" i think it's possible.

just wait til E3, launch is still far away and no one except sony knows whats really going on

I know you're new and all (and by new I mean today), but please, for the love of GAF, learn to use punctuation and grammar. Especially if you want to stay unbanned, and such... "oh noes" isn't really adding anything to the thread either, now is it?

Now, back to the thread:

I think Sony's seen what MSFT did, and is very aware of the repricussions (sp?) of an abysmal launch; I doub't they'd allow it to happen, at least not as widespread as the 360.

i hope this guy knows what he's talking about and sony has less ps3's available at launch than microsoft had with the 360's. if that happens, i will make a killing!! i did pretty well with 360's so i can't even imagine what i would pull in from this. please be true!!!!

Got this from a guy who got it from some other guy... which is said to be a developer.
Pic from 360 devkit (supposedly coming from him):

ANYWAY, the guy posted this:

Best thread ever...

One of my coworkers also said that Lair got cancelled for Ps3 and is exclusive to the PC.........

I heard the same thing exept it was for the Dreamcast because we all know the Dreamcast will always be more powerful than anything Sony makes.*

*might as well try to make this thread somewhat entertaining.

security loop holes on first gen sony products are a welcome bonus! In at launch for me!

Um, didn't Sony themselves say that they will have a 1 million unit/month production capacity by the Fall? Who cares how immense the day-to-day numbers look?

I'm very specktical about the Ps3 November launch.

Ever IF Sony makes it, I'm not sure they'll be able to do any better then the Xbox 360 launch did due to likely sortages of the system.

Not to say it'll be a bad launch since there are other factors to consider like which and how many games will be available on day 1.

Shortages won't stop any of the hardware companies from launching. At worst they'll delay one region. If there are shortages, Sony will just bask in the free publicity.

I'm in the saem boat. Up until yesterday, I had been working part-time at my local Best Buy. Well the other night I went in for my last shift, and the Sony rep was finishing up their visit. Feeling a bit punchy, I put him on the spot about the PS3 launch... I said, "come on, is there any truth to this November worldwide launch nonsense?" He maintained that November was going to happen without a hitch, despite the huge pile of facts suggesting otherwise. I pointed out that we have seen nothing in the way of complete, playable games, but instead have seen nothing but tech demos and a few spot trailers of allegedly "actual" games. Needless to say, I pissed him off.

It was so worth it though.

Sony has given the go for PS3 hype :) That's why they let Namco announce Ridge Racer 7 and let Grasshopper announce the strange horror game.. It has began...

PS3 won't be delayed

A delay til late 07' would be great for both Sony and gamers everywhere. Lowering initial loss + lengthing PS2 lifespan = everyone wins. Sony doesnt need to release PS3 this year, anyone who thinks otherwise is nuts.

And before people say "but but Rev and 360 will have a headstart!111" Guess what, they are both going to be outsold by PS2 this holiday and next, so why would Sony give a crock?

:lol

(because in that situation Sony could not regain the next generation lead in the US and Europe before MS releases their next console, not to mention what that would do to software sales and publisher confidence in the industry as a whole)

That kinda makes sense. The PS2 will no doubt outsell the Revolution, and it should outdo the 360 as well. PS2+FFXII should be a potent combination.

PS2 won't outsell them in 2007 though, come on lol.

No PS3 until 2007 and Sony better have some major tech upgrades.

X360 is really starting to get good. Maybe Sony can wait until 07 in Japan, but in north America they stand to lose a big chunk of marketshare if they leave the next gen field wide open for MS. The shortage is over now and 360's are everywhere. Next gen is here, Sony better not wait too long.

You guys are missing it. Waiting until the end of 2007 would cause publishers to pull back their Xbox 360 games, which would lead to lower sales. The PS2 and 360 are out RIGHT NOW, and we're still seeing "down from a year ago." reports. The PS3 releasing is good for the industry, it's good for gamers, it's even good for MS! Sony's ability to outsell the Xbox 360 and Revolution with its past console is only a repeat of what they did before with the PS1.
