You guys didn't stand a chance against that T2 fitted Rifter. Don't sweat it though, still have a long way to go re: ship fits for PVP vs PVE not to mention when and where to get into fights.

I going to donate some ships, implants and modules to N-GAF after d/t. I will have to get a look at your skills regarding fitting and it might be wise to get your training up to speed with fitting rigs.

I have said this before, the sooner you download and install EVEMon the better. With that tool you can browse all the ships/items etc in the game and see if you qualify to use them. EVEMon will set up a skill training plan based around your current skills and implants to get you into a fit asap. It is linked to the Battleclinic fittings database so you can browse ship fittings and load them directly into your skill queue. Do this now rather than later, you will save so much time. Then you can use EFT for more detailed custom fits after that.

I'm not entirely sure what happened but I'm sure he initiated the attack for the sole purpose of ganking everyone in the area. By the time he took out everyone else his shields were down and some armor chipped, he then set his sights on me (frigates first, cruiser last). He was at about 75-80% armor (and recovering FAST) when we were engaged, my fittings for my Vexor are build around Armor tanking -- my first Vexor was destroyed so my new one had less quality parts.

He was giving me a beating till I activated the nosferatu energy drainer and a few moments later he stopped firing then to bailed from the fight, he could of honestly taken out my Vexor within a few more moments... I wish I had a warp scrambler handy. But yeah, that was random -- for us. Looking at his stats, ganking players in that mission area is his business.

NOTE: Very interested now in building a PVP based fitting. Heh. Downloading EVEmon now...

Well if you're down I'd be willing to get a group together and try and take him out. I'll take my Punisher with a Warp Scrambler and Stasis Webifier.

How many noob frigates will we need to zerg him?

Sure, if only to teach him a really expensive lesson... which I'm sure he is prepared for Lol.

I've been carrying 10 exotic dancers all over the galaxy since forever.

If I can't have them in my quarters I will jettison them into space!!1!. Incarna better deliver.

Hopefully they don't count as illegal contraband. I once had a bunch of slaves on my ship that I had "rescued" in a mission and had no idea what to do with them. Got scanned and in trouble for having them aboard :)

Had a look around for info on this guy. He has a couple of alts but is smart enough to not leave postings on the internet to connect him to them. I wouldn't go after him though, he is in an established ganking corp in that area and they look to be highly skilled/trained. Good advice is to let that go for now.

Heh, I had a ninja salvager come into a mission two nights ago, he does the usual move and steals from a wreck, turns flashy red so I have aggression rights on him and am free to engage in combat. He jumps the gun a bit and calls for two more of his corp to jump into the room a few minutes later. He starts ejecting cans and renaming them with smack talk. While he was doing this I was busy in a browser pulling his details from various sources including Facebook profile, LastFM profile, LinkedIn profile - you get the picture, nothing illegal in it as that info is freely advertised by that person and left all over the interwebs for all to see. Have to say, when I started ejecting cans named with those details the tears and rage that flowed were something else. My smug was getting the better of me so I piped down a bit. He left the room and with that I sent him some money, 0.10 ISK with a short note consoling him for his fail and time spent with no reward. Nice little 10 minute diversion of amusement for me whilst running a mission. You can be creative on many levels with the meta game in EVE.

On aggression - do not lock and fire at players(boxed flashy red targets) unless you know you have the upper hand. You will lose every time. You have to be prepared with PVP ships/fits and tactics to fight other players. The PVE NPC's(crossed flashy red targets) are as far away as possible as a target to shoot at and by that reason alone makes PVE'ers prime ganking material. Simply put - a PVE set up will lose 99.99 percent of the time versus a PVP set up and specialist pirates/gankers aren't warping into mission to shoot at NPC's.

Pretty sweet

Ok, to make ISK in large volumes constantly you need to have a plan in place. With running missions the most popular tried and true method is getting into a Drake>Raven>CNR>Golem and then Tengu if that is to your taste. All of these ships will make 5-30 million ISK per mission in less than an hour. Sometimes that might be less than ten minutes in certain missions. Good advice is to train into at least a Drake as this ship can be useful in PVP(the rest are pretty much useless with the exception of the Tengu for elite PVP but that is a very expensive boat to lose) A Drake can do L4's solo although that can take a while to complete. Open EVEMon and browse for a low end mission running Drake and add that plan to your skill queue.

Mission farming versus mission blitzing.

Farming missions is quite easy in EVE. After you accept a mission you are given a completion time and date before your agent fails you. The offer also has a bonus of a million isk or so for completing the mission in a specified time limit - usually a few hours or so. Disregard that for farming, you want to be able to run the mission at least 7 times to extract as much bounty ISK, loot and salvage as possible. Missions like Worlds Collide L4 can net roughly 210 million ISK just in bounties over a weeks worth of farming. Loot and salvage can add up to 70-100 million on top of that. Two missions spawn Overseer NPC's which drop faction loot. Blitzing is where you disregard everything in the mission except the main objective. These mission take the smallest amount of time and can be done in as little as 10 minutes.

Best farmable Level 4 missions -

Angel Extravaganza
Gurista Extravaganza
The Blockade - spawns Faction Overseer
World's Collide - spawns Faction Overseer
Recon 1/3
The Assault
Cargo Delivery

I usually have at least 4 farmable mission open every 7 days and blitz all other missions for LP. I make over 1.5 billion ISK a month without really trying and usually blow it on PLEX first then shiny toys thereafter.

Naysayers be damned, I'm going Dungeon Siege 3 and Fear 3 baby.

Also while not technically a retail release, EVE Online gets a major content patch today.

*Whoops, wrong thread. My bad.

Two things, how long does it take to get ready for L4 Missions

2nd, is there a good skill book guide or something to follow? Something a bit more elaborate on what skills to buy, when to upgrade ships, etc.

Search the ship you want to fly in EVEMON and then view fittings and find something that's decently rated, then view the BattleClinic page and see what people are saying about it. If it looks good then go back to EVEMON and hit 'Add To Plan'. Then rearrange the skills to how you want them, so if it has skills that are going to help you now then train them first.

If I were new and wanting to run missions I'd train for a Drake then a Tengu and just buy a Game Time Card and sell it for like 750m ISK and then use this to buy your Tengu. Then just run missions and never have to buy a GTC again.

You can get an alt into a Tengu in like 60days from creation, I say alt as you need +4's and have to make the skill plan than uses remapping, so you can't really do much with it while it's training.

Gonna take 40 ish days for my drake fit, but that's after I get my miner and refine good enough for lazy mining.

Do you have EVEMon set up? If you do browse to ships>battlecruisers>standard battlecruisers>caldari>drake and hit the Battleclinic load-outs link near the top of the list. Click a few of the mission centric fits in that list and at the bottom of the page it will display a time-frame and skill plan to get that boat up and running.

edit - what Ikuu said

Mining - hmmm. I can only say I started out that way too but was quickly pointed to missions for making ISK. Besides being the most boring profession in EVE, mining won't get the returns you are looking for unless you are out in 0.0 space.

I would pull those mining skills straight away and get into that Drake as soon as you can. Fuck, come and salvage my L4's and you will make a few million a night :)

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 deployment downtime extended

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is currently being deployed. The database updates are taking longer than expected, and therefore the downtime has been extended. We expect to open Tranquility to the players at 21:00 UTC. Thank you for your understanding.

Wow at the Incarna backlash over at the official EVE forums.
I bet you spent many hours aranging your beefcake avatar just so. May I say what a jaunty angle you have arranged your head. And what deliscious pecs you have. Your green tee shirt suits the background perfectly darling.

I however, play eve to fight. I have no interest in dress up. They told me it was a cold dark universe, not a fricking Gap store.

As for you men with female toons, you disgust me
Backlash from nonsense like this. lol

Well, the most popular complaint I saw was that Incarna makes it easier, or at least more likely for someone to hide inside a station, thus making impossible to kill them.

Some people also complaining about the new clothes not being destroyable when being worn...

I don't think I'll ever go to that forum again. Makes my head hurt.

What are they upset about? The ingame store thing or the downtime? It's so hard to find what you're looking for on that forum.

They bitch about anything that is not directly related to them being able to kick ass in game. Any time they add features to the game or enhance visual flair, lot of the old school dude whine and bitch about it like they are being ignored.

EVE forums are terrible, they complain about anything CCP does. I love the whole Incarna stuff, pretty nice to look at something different after all these years, my old portrait was pretty ugly so it's nice to be able to change it.

Captain's Quarters doesn't interest me too much, but I'm excited to see the multiplayer station environments! Gambling! :P

It's kinda cool to see your ship on some sort of scale rather than what it's like currently.

Ugh. Wish I wasn't out of town. Really Want to get some actual game time in rather than just docked. Can't wait to play the update. People at the forums are boneheads. Imagine the game if they listened to all purists or did nothing and let them game stay the same as first release.

I've started mining myself last night, figured I'd try it out... I haven't done any mining outside of a tutorial. Watched some "Luther Series 1" while mining.

It's boring for sure. But I like it. Still need to do some research though. Can't mine Veldspar forever... or can I?

NOTE: Right now, mining is bringing in the same amount of ISK as missions, maybe a little less -- but it's risk free (at the moment; high sec).

Mining isn't risk free, if you jet can mine then someone can just flip the can, and if you train into an Exhumer then someone can come along and blow you up.

It is "Risk Free", there are actually a number of problems that can come up. NPC pirates and other players coming around manly. And if you aren't paying attention, players can take you out fast. Not as much of a problem in high security, but pirates can still be annoying.

CONCORD only responds after you get blown up, right?

I'm gonna mine in my cheap industrial badger. Only meant for making some money on downtimes when I don't want to play. If I could use up my hours at work with little monitoring to mine some crap veldspar, better than nothing.

Then I'll work on my PVE ship.

what is the best way to deal with pirates while mining? go with others? drones?

Highsec pirates are pathetic. I just tank them while mining.

0.9-1.0 Highsec has no pirates at all.

You kill rats with drones when mining, or if you can just tank the damage.

They respond when someone performs a hostile action on you (fire weapon, use ewar), can't remember if the response time is based on the security status of the system.

For the Drake ship, is it better to build it for active tanking or passive (if you're going to do the LVL4)?
Passive.
