NBA 2K7 First Look (PS3) - "a richer appearance than the 360 version"

It is a bit unco-ordinated though. At the very end of the motion you have to remember to hod the controller. If you dont, you throw it, if you do it kinda screws up the open handed motion, i mean how are you supposed to get the backspin in? That said i dont think the Wii could do any better, this is one game instance that some sort of glove would work better.

Glove? Are you serious?

The shooting looks pretty meh, but hopefully it feels natural when the product ships. Shaking the controller to act as crowd noise is pretty sweet though, seems like the guys at Take2 have been doing their homework.

I'm more surprised that they are still doing mo-cap for a game that is releasing in around 6 weeks (launch window). I really doubt EA would do that for Live/Madden.

Speevy is really amazing :lol

Never eats, never sleeps, always on duty.

This game is only the beginning of things to come. Can't wait till multiplatform development shifts to PS3 as the main platform. The whining and downplaying better graphics, smoother framerate and motion controller from the other side will be *e*n*o*r*m*o*u*s*.

You guys wont like it after shooting FT's with Shaq...His animation is about say.....7-8secs long. Yao Ming leads with about 9.5sec.

Ahh, the joys of having motion sensing in a Dual Shock design :D

that kind of mimey control is exactly what i hoped the dual shock casing would prevent :(

not that i suddenly care about "realistic" sports games, but if there was any prospect of my buying this, i'd hope there was some way to shoot freethrows with buttons

Actually it would make me do things like the real coaches do. Take Shaq out at the end of 2nd and 4th quaters. I want to see what it feels like to actually shoot like Shaq.

I kinda like the Heat anyway, so maybe I'll go easier on him after feeling what he actually goes through at the line.:lol

Well, what i meant was that since it's in a Dual Shock design (still can't call that thing "sixaxis") it can be used to enhance gameplay instead of forcing developers to reinvent everything around it. Using it for free throws is a perfect use: it enhances the experience without convoluting the main game.

there's a business opportunity for the SDF here, they could charge for classes on how to discredit "motion control as a gimmick" from the Wii fighting days. $100 for a day course, quids in, multiple expert speakers! ;)

but this gif discredits motion control more effectively than anything they could teach you

Damn I'm so so so glad that Nintendo went with this motion controller stuff. Thanks Nintendo for pushing Sony to go with their R&D projects, instead of the DS2.

XDF could always fight back with Achievements and Voice Chat.

And microrapements.

This thread sucks. I bet half of you guys are just in here to debate on which console sucks less. Shit, some of you probably hate bastketball:lol What a joke.

As a sports fan, its actually very comforting to hear that VC didnt just throw PS3 a "copy and paste" port. Fukk the pixel improvments. Im more intrested in the AI adjustments and newly added post moves.

360/NBA 2K7 owners need to relax. You'd swear from reading some of these comments that VC went PS3 exclusive. They've had 2 great years of NBA release's on the 360 now they're just showing PS3 buyers some love. I swear xbots HATE hearing positve about Sony these days. Dont worry fellas, Im sure we'll get those "rich" pixels next year.:lol

Remember, how a sports game portrays the actual sport is more important than "pixel richness" lol.

indeed - we could give the SDF lessons on that too, as it appears you'll need it for the microrapements.

It's really quite sad and annoying actually.

When I post in Wii and X360 threads there generally is little to no trolling...but like clockwork, every PS3 thread is full of trolls ready to nitpick and hang on every word.

So old. So cliche.

Xbots are like the outspoken televangelists of the console scene...preaching to people who don't want to hear it.

Can't wait for Pro Evo Soccer on PS3, the manual stepovers on the PS2 version are done with the right analogue stick, you have to get a rhythm going to pull off a lot in a row it'll be great with the tilt movement instead.

Does that mean bad, good or irrelevant to the topic in hand?

I didn't want to start a new thread stating if they support motion control for pulling off stepovers in PES it'll be great, I thought I'd put it into a thread talking about how motion can be implemented into sports games.

the free throw looks cool... i'm really glad that developers are really getting into the motion sensing abilities of the pad. call it mimey all you like, i think it looks fun.

i do wish that supposed journalist would stop saying things like 'there's a magical difference' or 'it just looks richer' though. you'd think these guys would be able to pin point why the game looks better, and it'd save a lot of hell in the forums.

heck since they've got contact with the developers they could ask.

but i am very tired of seeing sweaty muscular men. can't everyone tone it down a bit? i've never seen sports people look quite so sweaty in real life.

he's saying "Burn the Witch!" if that helps! ;)

well, it could be done like that but personally i don't want it to be, i need really tight precise controls and the thought of waggling the joystick to do a step over fills me with horror.

For the free throw, it's kind of cool and i like it, but not for something mid game in something like PES. At least IMO.

actually , now i think of it , one thing that MIGHT work in PES is if the movement is used to control stance. i.e. WEIGHT OVER THE BALL FOR SHOOTING , shielding of ball , helping control chest downs etc... BUT it would have to be done to perfection (although the physical game in almost all games, and especially in PES, is broken)

I'm not a big video game sports fan, but this actually looks fun.

You know something funny, my friends who do play sports games especially basketball games, make the same motion after a good free throw. Glad someone picked up on that and put it in a game.

If motion gameplay becomes big in sport games this might widen the gap in multiplatform games.

Have you tried doing manual stepovers? Well hard and not very precise or easy to get a rhythm having to push the right analogue stick left to right continuously. They'll keep the button press crappy stepover for wimps like you, but add movement based moves would be great, shimmys, stepovers, dummies, flicks, quick through-passes all done with a cunning flick of the wrist/hand movement would be awesome, BELIEVE!

oh, you mean wimps like me that can handle stepovers and aren't crying for an easier way to do it? ;)

There are possibilities - but for me it would be more natural for weight control , flicking a controller in the air doesn't really say any of those things mentioned for me - but perhaps my wimpy non-soccer trained mind is weak?

well it seems I was right afterall when i said that ALL controllers WILL be using a evolved version of the Wii controller the generation after Wii,PS3 and 360.
this proves it.
not that this is an evloved version of the wii controller but its a start:
3c238a2981.gif

Sony will be copying nintendo Wii with their PS4 controller!

:lol
Sony are such bastards

There are a lot of things you could do with the controller, I just think it will be easier to transfer some of the options across into the movement to make it less cluttered button-pressing wise. I'm sure Seabass will make it amazing and intuitive.

These gifs aren't exactly timed 100% for you guys but you understand.

That looks pretty cool. I don't see myself doing that all the time but having that option is pretty cool.

It is an option right?

Rather obvious the PS3 is superior and just about all versions of the same game will look better or have a better or more stable framerate on the the PS3.

I was wondering when you were going to show up.

Also people like wiimote in their PS3s now? What the ****?

I believe most people just think of it as a neat feature. You'd see more negative reactions if the inclusion of motion tech had meant that PS3 graphics weren't that much improved over the PS2's.

I'd be more concerned if VC is going to fix all the damn bugs and stat glitches in this version or not. Awesome game, but VC can't polish a game to save their lives. =(

Question, for you guys that are loving the free throw shooting system. Have you guy played a full game at 10 minute quarters? By the end of the game you could end up with 20+ free throw attempts. Im gonna guess by the third quarter everyone will have the motion option off.:lol

Its good to see that VC came up with a great concept to use the controlers features, I just hope its gonna be optional.

EDIT: In the video demo of the free throws it looks like you can actually shoot with just one hand. Sweet.

EDIT2: Just read a post over at operationsports.com The the build they had running at the House of Moves didnt have the updated version of the free throw system. Heres the quote from Mike Wang(beluba)

lol. the build we had in LA wasn't tuned and really wasn't ready for demoing free throws. it's fixed now.

But they did explain one reason why the best (may/more than likely) look better in the article.

motion sensing is gonna be huge on the PS3... I am happy they have it so Drinky Crow and friends will not laugh at us Wiitards(tm)

always remember Sony fans Nintendo saved you from this
