NBA 2K7 First Look (PS3) - "a richer appearance than the 360 version"

But they did explain one reason why the best (may/more than likely) look better in the article.
oh i saw them talking about the physics, but that doesn't really explain the 'richer' statements to me. it sounded like, from what they said, that the physics can be done with less effort on the PS3 freeing up more power for 'other stuff' and it's the other stuff that makes it look 'richer'.

i'm just curious as to what they're doing to make the game look better.

Well they say more shit is happening in the PS3 game, so if that applies to most games, I'd imagine more enemies, particle effects, enemies or possibly AA and AF

But it could be more dev time, who knows?

Borys, don't plan on lasting too long with that attitude.

Anyway, that actually looks neat, but I wonder if you'd get tired of it after a whole game. I would like to try it out.

more enemies?

we're talking about a basketball game.

I don't know if it'll be good or bad, but it is interesting. We'll have to wait and see. We really don't know how good the PS3 sensor controller is. But it throws the notions out the window already that it will be only used for tilting, and I have a feeling we'll see some really cool things down the road Also throws out the notion that PS3 is all about the same old, same old experience with just prettier graphics.

Like someone else mentioned, I"m not sure if I want to do that for 20-30 free throws a game, so hopefully there is an option to turn it off if need be.

Im sure those features are in because of more dev time. You'd have to be an idiot if you think the 360 cant handle "cheerleader + mascot AI":lol

Sounds like an option I'm definately never gonna use. Hopefully they have the stick method in as well.

Also, imagine you're sidelined at home with a broken arm and you wanna relax and play some NBA2k7. Oh no, captain cripple, no freethrows for you!

of course there will be a control option. probably the standard scheme used in the 360 version.

It's a good option to play with freethrows but I forsee a lot of flying controllers and broken TVs due to missed shots.

Not just any TV....1080p TVs!!!! mwahaha

If only there was a photoshop master that could remove the controller and just show the limp-wrist-action.

Or a way to somehow combine the European spike-haired Wii kid with this guy.

Heh. The best thing about that video is the FT %.
Thanks for pointing that out, actually. Looks like it might take some getting used to. Hell, forget about using Shaq at the line, Bron is shooting a whopping 11.1%. :lol I guess the motion control might not be as pick-up&go as it would seem. That said, this is a feature I wanted EA to use for FN3. I want them to let me double-fist the controllers so I can actually throw punches. There's a lot of control options with the x/y/z plane and rotations, so it's definitely something they can do. It doesn't need to track placement in 3D space, just the motion. I'd also like to see it used in racing games, since that would negate the need for a wheel. PEACE.

Just want to chime in and say I got the X360 version last night and my god what a great game!!!

Cant wait for the PS3 version :)

:lol :D ...way to live up to your avatar ;) How's the vette by the way?

well they would have to go with a richer appearance, given that the ps3 is targeted towards richer people...clever word choice if you ask me......next they should add 1080p, more pixels for you dollar

peace

This one's already running at 1080p, or was it 07?

No that build wasn't tuned right at the time of that video. It's tuned better now according to the developers.

Seriously, all this gimmicky crap is making gaming a chore :lol

That's good to know. I was only teasing though. I'm sure it wouldn't be added as a feature if it really sucked that bad. That's Ben Wallace bad. :lol PEACE.

I love the idea of the motion-sensed free throws.

Just curious if the people who are slamming the idea ever have played basketball in real life. As a huge fan of the sport and a guy who plays real ball every chance I get, I think it's great.

Now I can't wait until next cycle when they implement motion controlled dribbling... :D

but this gif discredits motion control more effectively than anything they could teach you

Why not? What do you really think?

I was actually more commenting on drohne's reply to DCHarlie, as both made me laugh. Anyway, I'm not really into basketball games, or sports titles in general (aside from the Blitz series, which I played the mother**** out of, and the occasional Madden game), but if the prospect of using the controller in that fashion for free throws hadn't been turn-off, personally, that gif sure does. :p

He's talking about the Artest vs. the fans mini-game....:lol

Nice! I wonder if the SIXAXIS will allow you to put the critical side spin and touch on the cups you can throw at him while he's escorted off the floor? :D

Man, I can't wait for the football games! Eagles home games are all I'm gonna play!

Greg Thomas, the president of Visual Concepts pointed out that as they've been spending more and more time with the hardware, they've started realizing that future game titles for both the 360 and PS3 will have to have different development cycles to fully take advantage of each console's power."

The question is, how many other studios will be this dedicated?

The majority obviously won't, including Visual Concepts. Although it's nice to see they're taking a more customized approach than some studios may be willing or able, multi-platform by default has to account for a common denominator as the base of development. "Fully taking advantage of the console" is always going to be the exclusive developer's domain.

VC isn't even dedicated to fixing all the obvious stat bugs and gameplay glitches released in NBA 2k7 as it is. What makes you think what he said will even matter in the end?

Yes, I'm bitter. The game is so good, which makes all these damned things all the more frustrating =( Where's a patch?

stupid posturing aside, I found this aspect of the article probably the most telling:

"While the development team hasn't had a lot of time with the final test hardware, don't simply assume that NBA 2K7 is a mere port of the 360 version of the game. The development team has spent a ton of time trying to respond to a lot of the comments from fans on their boards, and have added a lot of shot animations in the post and new gameplay upgrades, among other new features. They also put in extra time in the motion capture studios to enhance the realism on the court, so players really had a sense of being in a game situation. In fact, Greg Thomas, the president of Visual Concepts pointed out that as they've been spending more and more time with the hardware, they've started realizing that future game titles for both the 360 and PS3 will have to have different development cycles to fully take advantage of each console's power."

EA has said the samething so....

Wow, that free throw thing looks like it could get annoying. I'm sure at least 50% of will drop your controller!

Good to hear it looks better on the PS3 though, I would hope so, coming out a year after the 360.

just so you guys can actually see the difference.

on the left you got plain old 360 pixels, dull and boring.
on the right you see the ps3 pixels with two Tangible Pixels™. in the final version all the ps3 pixels will look like that!

anyways, its good to hear that they're using the SPEs in unique ways. I think we'll be seeing more of this along the way and eventually see better PS3 perfromance on some things.

Yeah I think in 2 years when devs are doing pretty much everything on the SPEs, we will see some awesome things.

I didn't see multiplatform devs doing this stuff this early though.

I guess for someone like EA that could afford to have multiple teams, allowing them more time to work with the SDK gives them a better idea how to use it.

It going to be less than 2.

i doubt the free throw thing is going to be as in depth as some of you seem to be making it out. Looks like they simply replaced the analog stick shooting with the PS3 pad. Instead of pulling the stick down to start the FT shooting animation, you pull the controller down. And pull it up at the peak of the shot just like you do with the analog stick. I doubt you're going to have to replicate Shaq's free throw shooting technique or anything like that.

That's exactly how I took it too.
