SvC is amazing, best original portable fighting game ever imo.
I think it was an interesting system, but it's kinda terrible, too. All of the fighters feel the same and over time I stopped finding the stick to be that novel.
I still want the Ogre Battle and Wrestling game that came out in Japan.
I don't know if I've ever held a more solid and well-built-feeling handheld than the NGPC. The A and B buttons feel sturdy in ways handheld buttons almost never do (easily among the best-feeling handheld buttons ever!), it doesn't feel at all cheap, that stick is great... do watch out for scratched screens, of course, but otherwise I see no reason to avoid used. How durable is the NGPC? I've never played one. Is there anything on the system (like the directional stick) that ages poorly with extended use?
I'm thinking about acquiring one of these little guys as a companion to my new CMVS, but I don't know if I should grab a good looking used one or save up for a brand new NGPC for $100. If there's no real durability issues (ie like N64's analogue stick which gets loose over time) then I think I'll just try and nab a cheap one.
I'm loving SNK more and more these days and I look forward to checking out their library on this little gem.
The only way MotM goes for £50 is if it is a complete copy, not just a the cart.
My local retro game store is closing down at the moment so I went to buy some random games to help out. I don't have a Neo Geo pocket Color, N-gage or Atari Lynx but I now have a game for each of those platforms in addition to about a dozen Gamegear/Game Boy games. Turns out this goes for over £50 on UK Ebay...I paid 50p. According to this thread its alright too. Might have to get myself a Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Absolutely, it was a good deal.My mistake, no loose carts on Ebay. Very happy getting it for 50p regardless

Am I going to missing out on much if I go with this bundle instead of the one from the same seller listed in the OP?
Don't know a lick of Japanese so are the import games listed in the bigger lot worth it?
VS
Some of those imports look like RPGs so you probably should go with the smaller one imo.
Got my system yesterday and while it feels fantastic it's very hard to go back to an unlit screen. Anyone have any impressions of the frontlight mod for the NGPC? Thinking of getting it done to my machine.
I'dbe more curious who offers such services fpr those unwilling to risk bad solder jobs, I've only done soldering like once :/
So Card Fighters Clash: Are there multiple versions of the game ala Pokemon, or just one? Also...there arent any bootleg NGPC games floating around...right?
There are SNK and Capcom versions of the 1st game, but not of the sequel.
So if I was just playing by myself, would it just be better to go with the sequel?
This morning I ordered a brand new factory sealed NGPC with Neo Turf Masters and Metal Slug 1st Mission!!!!
I've only played NGPC once in my life when a friend let me try it way back in middle school on the bus so I'm basically going to experience this system for the first time.
Cheers!
What are some cheap solid games to grab?
Sonic pocket adventure is a port? You'll definitely want to track down Match of the Millennium and Card Fighter Clash. Last Blade II and Samurai Shodown are also really good. Metal Slug 2nd Mission should be on your radar if you enjoy the first one. Sonic Pocket Adventure is a good port if you like Sonic. Faselei and Cotton are awesome games, but I'm assuming the English versions are ridiculously expensive nowadays.
Sonic Pocket Adventure, Dark Arms, SNK vs Capcom Match of the Millennium. What are some cheap solid games to grab?
No but it is heavily inspired by the first three Sonic for Mega Drive (especially Sonic 2).Sonic pocket adventure is a port?
So I just bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color, and I'm looking to build a small collection of the core games.
Can someone explain to me what's the deal with English copies of Faselei. Japanese copies are generally cheap, and I understand the game is common there. But I'm flummoxed about the English version.
I heard on Retronauts a while back that a hoard of the games were discovered and some point, and now it's dirt cheap. That's not true from what I"m seeing, though. Cart-only versions seem to be going for $80 and way up.
But then older discussions online (like this one: http://forum.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?28304-Faselei-U-S-version-is-it-really-rare ) claim it's rather common.
So what's the truth? If I want to have this one (probably cart only) in my budding collection what does it really cost?
As far as I'm aware, the English print run was a limited release in Europe, as all the US stock got recalled before it went to stores. You can occasionally find blister packs bundles of NGPC games that have 2/3 common games and one rare one to jump up the price.
Oddly enough, I got my copy for around £25 delivered from a US seller as the label was "Slightly damaged" but it's hardly noticeable. The game is pretty decent though, but you're gonna pay a hefty sum for it, even cart only . Cheapest I've seen it recently is £40.
Do recommend Samurai Shodown! 2 and Last Blade as pick ups, though most of the fighting games on it are great (and some, like King of Fighters R2 are really cheap). Sonic Pocket Adventure's a decent reimagining of Sonic 2 as well. SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters is good get too! It's a great little system .
Those with frontlit NGPCs, how do you like them after the mod? How's the battery life?
