NeoGAF Games of the Year 2011 Awards (Up: bunch of extra data, check it out!)

Blah, Dark Souls. Now I can no longer approve of the top 3, thanks :(

The full statistics are up! See post 4.
I am pleased with this. Tactics Ogre, Sonic Generations, Yakuza 4, and Trails getting well-deserved recognition.

Tactics Ogre should also be #1 Best Remake (besting Ocarina!)
Yep. :D

Speaking of which, I guess that'd rank it at #5 between Pokemon Black/White and Ocarina of Time 3D in the handheld awards category.

Edit: checking the stats file -- nice to see Corpse Party at #4 in the Horror category with 22 points.

Deus Ex robbed.

Also Rez, I was going to do the civil war quest in Skyrim. What are your thoughts on it? Wanna know if I should bother.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssss. Will the OP be edited now the delicious truth has been unleashed?

jj984jj

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
So what happened to Tactics Ogre before? From the looks of the handheld list, the game just wasn't included.

Why are Cheesemeister's results different from Timetokill's?

Because I've had more time to go over the data. It takes time to gather data for lots of games that get only 1 vote each. I also verified odd ballots to see if they were following the rules. A bunch of ballots once shown as having gaps, disqualifying the remaining portions, were resolved.

Ah.

Looks like I need to try Dark Souls.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Sad to see Serious Sam 3 so low. I don't think I edited that in on time but I was going to add it to my top 10.

I would have voted for it, but I don't vote for games I haven't completed (and that is entirely my mate's fault as he hasn't yet bought the game). I'm afraid that Serious Sam 3, despite being the second-best FPS this generation, will have to settle for a LTTP vote during GAF GoTY 2012.

Corpse Party, Atelier Totori and Jamestown (3 of my 4 most "out there" picks) are in the top 100. I'm content. Though Sanctum only got 3 points :(

I should have the user affinity table up in an hour or so.

Hey, PC exclusives got more points in total than 360 exclusives.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
Tough call, they're SO hard to compare. Actually, I agree with the #1, #2, and am happy with either game at either #3 and #4. Well done indeed, GAF.

edit: For the record I personally enjoyed Dark Souls more as the sense of community in that game is goddamn unparalleled. Dat OT... and dat OT2

On the other hand Deus Ex's setting, atmosphere, plot and voice acting really clicked for me.

Don't lynch me, but I'd love a game with a hardcore sci-fi atmosphere and aesthetic but with the From Software gameplay design and online community ethos.

Here's the user affinity list.
Like last year, find your entry by searching for "$$[yourUserName]" (without the []).

This one uses the exact same algorithm as last year. I'm not that happy with the results for me personally, so I'll try to implement another one that weighs games that are rarely mentioned higher. (The idea is that popular games are likely to appear on lots of lists anyway, so the less popular ones are more significant in determining user affinity. Sounds flimsy but it's just for fun)

While I adjusted the script I noticed that for these users: RurouniZel, LuchaShaq, GABDEG, b.mak
the 2010 vote wasn't picked up correctly (formatting issues).

[PC] Streets of Rage Remake (Bombergames, Action) = 6 points
2. (3 points * 1 user) Sixfortyfive
4. (2 points * 1 user) _dementia
8. (1 point * 1 user) TheFightingFish

Sixfortyfive, _dementia and myself holding it down as gamers of truly classy taste.

Thanks, the formatting is bit wild, but it's really cool to have.

Also, congratulations to windfish for having great taste.

Looking over the full results, it seems that Sequence should be the #4 Rhythm Game:
Rhythm Game of the Year: Child of Eden (Ubisoft) = 99 points, 9 honorable mentions

2. Dance Central 2 (Harmonix) = 17 points
3. Rocksmith (Ubisoft Montreal) = 14 points, 1 honorable mention
4. Groove Coaster (Taito) = 7 points, 1 honorable mention
5. Rhythm Heaven Wii (Nintendo) = 4 points

Cheesemeister said:
138. [360][PC] Sequence (Iridium, Rhythm) = 9 points, 4 honorable mentions

Anyway, thanks for all the great work, timetokill and Cheesemeister. Now, it's time to see what else I can find hidden in there~

Edit: Kind of funny to see how few of the people with similar votes included UMvC3 at all. My list was mostly platforming games and RPGs, so that's where most of my similarities probably come from.

I assume the similarity score of 57572 is good?
Well..

The winner of the "most attuned poster of 2011" award is Refreshment.01 with a similarity score of 75529.

The winner of the "most eclectic taste of 2011" award is GhaleonQ with a total similarity score of 1018.

So I guess your adjustment to the hivemind is above average. Whether that's good or not is for you to decide :p

I don't recognize any of these [fine] folks.

EDIT: Hmm, even the guy who is first on my list has 4 games that are different than my choices.
