NeoGeo PAD USB [PS3/PC]

So, in theory, if one were to utilize the "360 grab at every opportunity" elite SSF4 fighting style, this could make it easier. I will keep that in mind.

Still waiting on mine to be shipped =/

P-A still hasn't gotten it back in stock. I even pre-ordered and paid for it (courier shipping aswell) on the very day it got listed.

Ah well, i guess i can wait till next year..

Will this be regularly available or be just a limited run? I'm interested in picking one up since I remember the original controllers being very precise when I played on a friends neo geo years ago.

I received mine today. Excellent controller ! The D-pad is comparable to the NeoGeo Pocket D-pad ie the best D-pad ever.

It's available here :
http://www.nin-nin-game.fr/lang-en/...ation-3-accessories/2572-neo-geo-pad-usb.html

On PC, by default the D-pad is detected as point of view axis. It may causes problem to bind keys on some program (eg Kawaks). You have to maintain Start and Select when plugs in the controller to make the D-pad to be seen as standard X-Y axis.

Thanks for the link, just bought it! It's a huuuge shame that the dpad is a POV hat on the PC, especially when the Saturn USB controller was perfect. I guess the difference is that this is specifically PS3 suited. :( Will probably be a hassle.

I just bought it in spite of this. I really loved the NGPC stick.

So...I finally got a hold of one and I have to say...I don't know that I care for it all that much. :(

My problem isn't so much the controller itself or that it's hard to get used to or whatever, but the stick itself. The stick clicks when you move it in a different direction and it feels kinda odd (I've never used a Neo Geo pad before). I really want to like it because I'm not an arcade stick person and I've been waiting for that certain fight pad to come along and entice me to get me back into the genre. I thought this was the one and having waited so long for it, I was so excited to use it and love it. I'm going to give it another day of some thorough use and maybe it'll grow on me. but then again, I might just end up eBaying it. *shrugs*

Late to the party here but if you hold start and select while plugging it in, it will change from a POV hat to regular X/Y axis.

That does sound sketchy. Even the rip-off artists from Gamebaz only want $50, which is only $10 over the MSRP with current exchange rates.

Gamebaz aren't legit? I ordered something from them last year and received it without any problems. Removing the link as a precaution.

I'm pretty sure i bought from them in the past too. They're legit, I only ment that they jack prices up and hope suckers pay. They ask hunderds of dollars for hard-to-find games and shit. I'd fulle expect THEM to be asking $80 for that controller.

Yeah, I just checked my receipt and NCSX sold me mine for $39.90 when I bought it last year.
They're definitely price gouging this one.
Yeah, and they raised it to $49 the week of release when they realized there was more demand...(think Neo Geo station had just been announced.

$35 seems a little steep, but this thing doesn't exactly have a history of going down in price. Will buy closer to move in, I can only stand Guilty Gear on my keyboard for so long.

Bump,

I know these got a second run a bit ago. This is to inform that Play-asia is now listing them for about $35 delivered.

I grabbed a second one for the collection (along with the English Sub Okami). Hoping PA delivers...sucks not having tracking or anything.

Thanks for the heads up!

BTW, if you add Registered Airmail ($4.90) to your order, it should give you a tracking number once it ships. You could also add another $0.50 to your order if you would like to remove the Play-Asia logo off the packaging, if you think it would help move it along customs.

Can the dpad be bound easily on PC? Is it recognized by programs that recognize dpad input? Or will I need software to circumvent the issue?

I just might stick with my USB Saturn pad..

Ah, was wondering why it had an option for an extra $5. But, I was going in cheap since this was an extra so I took my chances. It is being delivered to my PO BOX so I'm just assuming it will be about three weeks or so. Customs usually are not an issue for my state/country. PA did ship within 12 hours, though!

Posting to thank Yes Boss! for bumping this thread. I went for the cheap $0.50 shipping and it only took 8 days, surprisingly. I really like the face buttons on this thing; nicely sized and uniform unlike the smaller top row of buttons on a Saturn pad. They all feel responsive and solid to press and the coloring is nice too. The cord is a bit thinner than a DualShock 2's.

The shoulder buttons are similar to the clicky ones on the Saturn pad, but they're smaller and don't have a curved ridge on the back. They could be a little easier to press, but I have no issue dashing constantly in Megaman Zero with them, so they work fine.

The controller shell, face buttons and triggers are all textured matte plastic that feels pleasant to hold and seems solid. Start and Select are rubber like on Saturn or Playstation pads. The PS button is a little hard to get at, but I map that to be my exit game button, so I don't need it to be too easily accessible.

The control stick is super precise. I had an easier time executing Soul Steal and Hellfire in SOTN compared to my Saturn pad. It's obviously great for fighters. The clicks provide excellent feedback to help with execution. I don't see any issue with it registering as hat switches instead of an axis on PC; I've mapped it in RetroArch, MAME and Super House of Dead Ninjas so far and all directions and diagonals register perfectly.

The only issue I have is that the throw takes some getting used to after using normal D-Pads for so long. Double tapping a direction to run in Kirby games and general movement in SHMUPS seemed less responsive at first, but the more I use the pad the less it's an issue.

I'd recommend anyone who values precision in games that use digital movement grab one of these while they're still decently priced on PlayAsia. It's just a fun pad to use and looks cool to boot.

anyone using this on the PC?
wondering how Skullgirls would fare on it
Yep. This thing is my favorite controller for (classic) 2D games. That microswitch stick is just so damn satisfying to use. It's my go-to control scheme for GBA, SNES, Genesis and NeoGeo emulator emulators.

I don't own that yet, but from some googling it looks like you can remap pads in Skullgirls, so it might be easy as long as it supports direct input pads. If it only supports Xinput, you can always use x360ce to map the Neo-Geo pad anyways.

I was pretty happy with Play-asia's service. Was not expecting to arrive for a few weeks but the controller made it in about a week. Not bad.

I am so tempted :(

or would this suffice?

Just got mine. I've mostly been using it for Cave shmups and it's been pretty amazing. Sometimes my thumb lands in the wrong spot and kind of "gets stuck", but that's just a matter of getting used to the different shape of the "d-pad". Had a much harder time in SkullGirls because I have so much muscle memory trained on the Saturn pad.

It's been entirely plug'n'play without any specific drivers in win7 x64 and every emulator thus far has been registering it easily. Haven't tried it via x360ce yet but I can't imagine that being an issue either.

thanks for the bump, ordered one.

i did all this. always get Registered to avoid panic attacks and for some reason PA-labeled packages do take longer than usual so i'm trying the neutral packaging and see how that goes.
