They do actually.
You cant use the extender at portable mode. Where would they joycons connect to the Switch? So if the battery pack prolongs the Switch's battery life by even an hour that sounds like a nice upgrade for portable mode.

These were also announced during direct...more here
I'm really annoyed that they don't come with the same-color extend grip. I honestly don't think I'll buy any Joy-Con until they do. I don't want to spend $8 more bucks and then have a ton of extra grey ones left over.
I think we'll see a purple one at some point.

don't really understand the battery pack thing, these things already last forever
Do they not power the main unit too?
They don't.
Would be nice if the extended battery in the joycons powered the Switch itself. Is that not feasible?
Someone could surely calculate it but I think the Switch wouldn't get much juice (running time) out of AA Batteries.
If no one complains, no one needs to buy it, and that's fine.In don't understand the joycon battery pack at all. They last long enough and no one conplained. If anything it's the switch that needs one.

Uses AAs? For fuck's sake, Nintendo. Use a fucking rechargeable battery. -_-
At $80 + $60 individual MSRPs I can't see the bundle going for less than $120, and that's the optimist price. Otherwise $130.Not a fan of that yellow. So will still be getting the neons instead so i can go blue-blue red-red.
Just wish they announced a joycons bundle with arms. Seems to be the first game you need 2 full sets
I actually really like that shade of yellow. Reminds me of the Oceanographer palette in N++.
That battery pack though... I don't see why you would need that at all. Not only is the battery life already super good, but they're pretty much the perfect size. Putting those straps on is enough to make them too wide to hold comfortably, that extra bulk at the back is just gonna make them impossible to get a solid grip on.
For folks that don't think the cons are the perfect size?
Would love if they'd designed those battery packs to go on while playing your switch out of the dock with the cons connected. The switch looks nice and all but I'd take the extra bulk at the back for comfort.
I think that would be a fiddly thing to achieve with the Switch design, they would probably need a duplicated rail in the shell and then have the S buttons on a lid that folds back when it's in hh mode.
