New Batman: Arkham Asylum Screens (End of Summer delay confirmed)

Why do you guys get screwed over so badly? I don't understand.

1. weak currency
2. small market with high risk of overstocking
3. because stores can get away with it

Being a gamer is unfortunately a costly hobby here.

New villain to be revealed this Thursday 12:30 AM on GTTV (Spike TV). Check your local listings or head over to Gametrailers.com. Hopefully it's something cool.

It'll be someone boring.. like Two-face.

I want to know if the Batarang actually works. Can you curve it like a real boomerang? Does it actually throw like a ninja star, and splinter wood? Whoever gets it first, please test!

I tried the demo in BB and was sorely disappointed int his game. It was a straight combat demo, and so I didn't get to trry the Detective parts, but the combat is sorely lacking.

That goes against every impression I've read. Care to I don't know, explain what you mean?

Or, I don't know, maybe a typo? Since their both labeled challenge map. Maybe Xbox's challenge map will be Harley Quinn or Bat-mite or something challenge map.

No, read carefully, PS3 has 2 Challenge Maps.

This sort of thing always makes me laugh, X Box 360 on a lot of occasions gets exclusive and its ok but as soon as PS3 gets something 360 doesnt people start going mad and shouting "Moneyz Hatz" from the rooftops.

Same goes for when on a rare occasion Europe gets a game before America and people start saying "Its nots fairz!!!!!!111".

Some people just need to accept it and get over it.

I love action games that don't force you to play in a specific manner and are more open ended like Deus Ex or Chronicles of Riddick, this one is supposedly like that?

From the looks of the Silent Knight video it seems like a good title even if the combat was on the easy side - but there is probably some difficulty setting in there. Hopefully the game won't dissappoint :)

Are the challenge maps going to be available to everyone at some point? I assume they'll have a cost if they do. I'm pretty interested in this game but I'm not getting the CE.

I'm surprised noone noticed this yet:

Collector's Edition bonus items: Game, Batarang Storage Box, 14" batarang, 50 page character encyclopedia, Challenge Map DLC, PS3 Joker Challenge Map DLC, 5 chapter series DVD and game manual.

You get the game manual with the CE? So the regular version will have no manual?

No game either apparently. :(

It says Blu-ray for PS3 and DVD for 360.

No strategy involved whatsoever. It's basically a button masher of the square button, but when an enemy attacks(like I said, this was in one of the challenge rooms, maybe story mode is better) blue wavy lines pop up over the head and you have to press triangle to counter, so the only thing I was pressing during this 5 minute sequence was square and triangle, nothing else. I occasionally threw a batarang, but that was slow and really did no good, so I just used square and triangle after that. Previews are lying about combat at least, I'd say it's more repetitive than The End is Nigh.

Sounds exactly like how the previews described the core melee combat actually..

edit:
The game isn't a brawler, so even having a demo to showcase just the "brawling" aspect is a dumb idea. They should've been Silent Knight rooms only as that's where the game shines. Sneaking around in the shadows, using the gadgets/environment to your advantage etc.

Haven't read any previews myself, so i was going in fresh. As I said, the demo was nothing but combat, so can't comment on other aspects of the game. But the combat leaves a whole lot to be desired.

I must admit, that Batarang looks awesome though.

Wait, what..

So I played a little of a challenge room on PS3 kiosk at the local Gamestop (only played 5 minutes or so).

It was an arena style room with each round have higher number and more heavily armed enemy combatants.

Combat seemed pretty fun, they used an interesting effect when being hit by an enemy with a bat (screen goes out of focus/double vision).

Seems like the combat should be pretty fluid.

Really. When I played, I thought the combat was fluid and satisfying, though I had a mindset that you'll learn new things for combat as you go though the game. I also liked how it was kinda of like a sandbox since they changed up the enemies each time you fight against them, and how they have the ability to open the gun storage boxes.

Batman looked like he was sliding across a table when Bane threw him. :lol

That's a better choice than I expected. Still, I didn't think they'd go the "big guy" route again since Croc's already in the game.

I still hope they're going a bit wilder with other choices. Freeze (as was suggested) or Clayface would be welcome additions. Though it'll end up being Penguin/Two-Face. Leaves room for the sequel, I guess.

edit:
Also, needs more Catwoman & Ivy.

So are there any other well astablished villians going to be in this game then?, it is Arkham so there could be scope for a few more? I mean who do with have so far:

Joker
Harley
Croc
Bane

Any others?

According to Wikipedia, the game will have:

Batman, Oracle, and Commissioner Gordon on the "heroes side"

Joker, Killer Croc, Riddler, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Mr. Zsasz, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Amygdala, Killer Moth, and Ratcatcher on the "villains side"

However, I've read that Riddler won't actually be physically in the game but will leave clues and other writings that Batman comes across, so I'm not sure how reliable that list is, or if there are others that will be revealed. For what it's worth, I saw Bane on that list a week or so ago.

B-b-b-but he's Batman! He's supposed to lay the smackdown and have magic counter moves!

Yes combat does look to be on the weak side but still getting it for the overall experience.

The game should shine everywhere. Batman is not one of the best martial artists on the planet for nothing. The Bat does it all.
I think Lostxii is right, we'll learn a lot more moves troughout the game.

DrBo said the previews were saying different. Therefore, I said the previews were lying to him. That doesn't mean I read them.

I think he said previews were different because this is the first time we've heard of a combat-only demo for the game.

No game ever made shines everywhere, but that's for another time.

We knew since the beginning that the main melee combat wouldn't be all that special because, it's one attack button and the counter window is blatantly pointed out to the player. Which is why you're supposed to combine those things with the gadgetry and stealth aspects of the game. You know, the real bread and butter, so to speak.

I don't know why people are expecting it to have a NG/DMC style when the previews, vids and hands-ons have all said otherwise.

Perhaps.

Yes, a combination of things is what they should strive for. But not simply as you say focus on the stealth and gadget aspect of the game. It would ring false to the character in question. Maybe simple combat is a proper way to showcase Batmans skills in that department, i doubt there is anyone that can rival him in that aspect. But it's not like if he's caught during stealth mode that he's defeated, he could easily fight his way out.

I don't expect DMC/NG style of of fighting, that would be too show-offy, which is nowhere near Batman's style of fighting. But so far a lot of the hands-on have been very positive concerning the fighting aspect. Fluid and easy is good, there should be atleast a good number of unlockable/upgradeable moves.

You guys missed the point. Read back what I'm replying to and quoting. I'm merely pointing out that the text is incorrect on Amazon's page. The previous poster asserted that moneyhats were involved because the PS3 listed a Joker map, but it also states the bonus disc is on DVD. That's why I was pointing that out.

If you scroll down to the end of the product description it says it is indeed PS3 exclusive, and that it also features a Mark Hammil voice over to accompany it.

EDIT: Oh, and does anyone know if there are any extended story videos yet? I watched the GDC challenge room video but it's not really selling me on the game. Since I doubt I'll play challenge rooms very much I'd rather see some videos of the story mode, like doing detective stuff. Cause the game sounds totally awesome from what I've read, I just haven't got to actually see any of those parts yet.
