New BF:Bad Company 2 trailer/screens

Maybe it's something like what Ubisoft did with Far Cry 2? Where for the price of a regular version, you got a special edition. But that was at Gamestop (the last time I ever went there).

I'm not sure how this limited edition works. Per-order only maybe?
Pre-Order only, yes.

I would have much preferred it this year.
Online demo at least cmon Dice Ho Ho Ho make it happen
IGN said they were told a beta is coming (from their GamesCom preview of BC2) and someone who recorded footage from Comic-con or PAX said he was told the beta was coming late october/start of november. Embargo lifts November 6th for some BFBC2 stuff, hopefully that includes the beta or at least when it will be out.

Motion sensor on the LE Abrams is some horseshit. The coaxial and improved armor I don't really have a problem with. Might make encounters a little more exciting actually.

But motion sensor is horseshit.

It actually looks like something you throw down instead, I'm guessing its just like the motion tracker from B:BC1.

Le sigh.....
I hate preorder shenanigans, If I can use my amazon discount from MW2 towards it then great. If its Gamestop exclusive then no Dice. pun intended

I don't think it's a Gamestop exclusive, but I can't say fissure. Gamestop already has that AK-74U exclusive so hopefully not.

Did I see a sniper's Laser designated missile bounce off the back of the tank at one point? That alone is worth the LE. This game is going to rock.

In that case I withdraw my pending frown by a moderate degree. This makes it a pre-order incentive, which makes it still kind of dubious. I was pre-ordering it anyway, but I'd prefer it if I wasn't getting an unfair advantage over other players. It's kind of shitty. It's not a reward for me as much as it's punishment for others. I don't feel like I'm getting anything, I was going to unlock all that stuff anyway. Oh well.

Same. I guess it's just an evil ploy by EA to get pre-order numbers up.

i LOOOOVE using tanks, and even i am thinking "wow, that's a bad idea"

i bet all the sucky tank drivers who constantly get run up on by guys with C4 will love it...

You're probably right... I was just thinking that if the LE's were rare enough, it might be fun to face them if you're on a good team. Like an extra challenge. Hearing people call out "elites" over the mic might and to the tension when defending etc.

So whats the deal with this stuff? Is it timed exclusive for the LE's or will they open them to everyone later, like they did with BC1. I almost wish the tank shit was LE-only... just to keep their numbers down.

But an M9? Yeah... I want that.

Makes no sense either. Tanks are traditionally vulnerable to urban areas where they can't see everyone all around them. And of course they can't see people who are prone or crouching right by the tank either.

BFBC1 was anything but balanced, and this one is looking like a repeat of that so far. Unless they do something really sweet, like put prone back in, or fixed wing aircraft, or make the guns really accurate and lethal (BF2 1.2 patch style), I probably won't bother buying.

Or you simply disable dolphin diving like other games have done with simple adjustment or put in a realistic stand up animation/speed.

Exactly. I've played COD4 for 100 plus hours on 360 and never once saw someone dolphin dive. Saw someone bunny hop maybe once or twice, and they were gunned down shortly as a result.

Crippling an important feature of a game to discourage exploiters is not the way to do it. Just disable the exploit instead.

Halo is the only shooter that shouldn't have prone. Hell, to be honest, I'd probably like Halo multiplayer more if it had prone, but I don't like Halo, so maybe it's better without it.

Edit: Nooooo double post

A lot of shooters shouldn't have prone, but that's beside the point. Not being able to go prone in a battlefield game is just annoying.

I'm getting over the prone thing. I can even understand where they're coming from to some degree... sucks, but what are you gonna do?

BC1 is still my favorite shooter and it has a ton of problems. But it's always fun... even after the millionth time. BC2 will be even better.

devs can go fuck themselves with killcam though, douchebags

So awesome :D

I don't think I like the idea of motion sensors on the tanks :/ would prefer that to only be on Humvees.

I heard killcam was removed. From a post on the bad company forums

Also, the kill cam has been removed. But it appears to be replaced by a flying cam, maybe. I don't know what it was, it was pretty far away from the camera, so I'm not sure. But it looked like you can fly the camera around so you don't feel bored respawning.
Woah, what is this. Toggle 1st person/3rd person camera? I know for vehicles, but it says that under Soldier too? Maybe it's for spectating squad-mates after you die?

The following screens are apparently really old, but I've never seen them.

Here's the plane you can spawn-parachute out of at intervals throughout the match.

That is really great news... I know some people were saying after an initial hands-on that killcam wasn't a big deal, but I never agreed. Killcam always blows, and doesn't belong in Battlefield.

Interesting... but who the heck spectates in BC? Respawns are pretty quick.

:lol The unlockable weapons from the first game were pretty average for the exception of a handful like M16 and MG36(out of nearly 20). I still think the default weapons will be the bread and butter to those complaining about a day one advantage.

The weapons aren't the big deal here (though the M9 is pretty slick) but rather the Abrams perks. It can withstand a direct LD impact or C4 charge, has a motion sensor that picks up explosives as well, and has a driver controlled coaxial machine gun. Add in the normal gunner and you have a beast of a vehicle.

Just sayin.

To my understanding, those are the vehicle upgrades which DICE talked about a few months ago and I can assume you'll be allowed a certain amount of upgrades if not only one which I'm totally fine since that would be insanely unbalance.

i didn't even consider the possibility that you could pick more than one tank perk at once. that would be batshit insane.

I've recently heared that Battlefield Bad Company 2 is coming to the PC. I have some questions regarding helicopter control.

To say this simple: I LOVE Desert Combat helicopter control. Spinning around fast while laying waste and destruction on one spot made you feel badass.

Battlefield 2 gimped the helicopters maneuver for some reason, making it slower and way more clumsy to fly.

How is Bad Company's helicopter controls in comparison?

I'm the worst helicopter pilot in the world... but imo the controls are retarded. However, I've played with people who are aces with the thing, so I'm guessing it's a matter of practice. I know I could learn (and be real good) but I never want to take the bird from the team and crash it into mountains and shit while I'm getting used to the controls. :/

I really hope DICE gives us a 1943-like tutorial level that lets you learn to fly the damn thing without penalizing your team in a live match.

Either way I imagine controls will be a lot more intuitive on the PC version.

I have no clue how any of these perks work in the new game... I never considered the possibility of choosing only one. Completely forgot about that article a while back that talked about vehicle upgrades.

well, we still don't know exactly how the perks work... maybe they're somewhat stackable.

I just immediately assumed the worst, as I tend to do these days, that you could select multiple perks. Never considered that you might be limited to just one either. Guess maybe I shouldn't be so quick to call shenanigans.

By the way, Bad Company choppers controlled like jumbled garbage. If you think the BF2 choppers are slow and clumsy...oh boy. I sincerely hope they've reworked that stuff. I was never a good BF2 pilot, but I thought they felt good to fly and I could grasp what I needed to do to fly somewhat proficiently. Bad Company is like flying a floating elevator.

and yet, the people who got good at it are really, really good. maybe a helicopter shouldn't be so easy to fly...

What it needed was a way to practise flying helicopters outside a real game.

I would hop in an empty server in BF2 and fly around. Good enough to be functional with them anyway.

Didn't some vehicles have a motion sensor in BF:BC? I think it only showed guys on the mini map, but I think I remember tanks and APCs having those motion sensor rings coming off of them on the map.

I'm just surprised there actively advertise "Get the day one advantage!" Cause yeah, that's a good thing. We were lucky last time that all the gold edition unlocks didn't totally unbalance shit. Geez wish they'd just consider that maybe there's a possibility they didn't consider everything and er on the side of caution in regards to this sorta balance stuff.

I am really looking forward to Dices next video. Hope they show some sniper footage, I want to see if they took some steps to make the Snipers balanced and not so overpowered.

I'm Praying for bullet smoke trails

Have you ever played a PC Battlefield game?

Lack of prone is probably the second worst thing about Bad Company for me, after the generally meh shooting mechanics.(and useless assault rifles/LMGs/SMGs) Half the times that I get shot and killed could have been avoided if I could just hit the deck and hide behind some low cover.

Preaching to the choir brother. Read my posts about prone in this thread... I want it bad. I think it's a mistake not to have it.

But... I also said I could live w/o prone if they removed killcam. And they did. Games not gonna be perfect because everyone likes different things. I loved BC1 and I think everything they've done so far is a pretty good improvement on what that game established as a fun, extremely enjoyable shooter experience. I've never really thought of BC as Battlefield proper... it's an offshoot. So I'll allow them a few liberties w/o bitching too much. But there are some lines you don't fucking cross and killcam was one of them.

you know I am probably the only one with this, but I realy hate having the thompson etc in BC2...

I know I don't need to take it, but it kinda break immersion for me when I see someone (or myself) getting killed by it

like said it's personal thing

@repi said the trailer was made from the 360 build of the game, wow. Can't wait to see more of this game. Has anyone noticed press playing a beta of the game? I heard someone was in the beta on another site, but he showed no proof. Maybe they are in a friends/family thing and the embargo that goes on November 6th is their impressions/videos and then the release of the public beta? I listened to that podcast from bitbag or whatever, they really seem impressed by it. When you shoot at walls the smoke/dust from the concrete just hovers there for a while and doesn't dissipate right away. Good stuff.

What map did you play on, the desert one? Did you see anyone recording footage?

Yes the desert one with the wrecked ship in the middle. No recording allowed at the Bad Company 2 stalls, saw a few people getting told off.

Damnit. Why do they do that? Ugh wtf DICE.

because the game isn't coming out for 5 months so is probably still rough around the edges.

I thought the game was more or less finished and was delayed because the "OMG MW2 is gonna steal all our sales!" syndrome.

It's definitely not finished, there were a lot of place-holder names for items and stuff, and I did get stuck on quite a few objects and during one play session I was unable to crouch (though that could have just been the controller)
