New build of Killzone Shadow Fall shows improvements

Awesome!

Also, the video in the OP does look considerably improved.

I'm not sure if I'm imagining this, but I noticed the way the tree branches sway has changed from the E3 build. It seems like individual clusters of leaves sway independently now. In the older videos that I checked, it seemed like the entire branch swayed in one direction. Anybody else notice this? I could be seeing things, but a couple of frames in this video really caught my eye, unlike before!

your not the only one when I saw the E3 build I was widely confused on the tree movements... Looked as if a typhoon was passing through

The foliage and it's reactions to the environment are much improved.

LOL. Good stuff. It looks a lot more believable now. Wonder if they have tapped into some the GPGPU goodness to pull this off. In any case, I think this should go in the OP if others agree that it's an improvement.

Nice. Wish the trees could becomes fully destructible. Crysis attempted this, though I didn't find it very convincing. If done right, It could add so much to a firefight!

This is really shaping up to be awesome. Love the hand gesture when deploying the Owl.

KZ-Mercs is keeping me hyped for this.

Erm, recoil is not supposed to obstruct the player from being able to pull the trigger and fire off his gun to earn a kill. In real life a gun does not move a metre when you pull the trigger, it moves very much in the way shown in the video's I linked. You can even often control recoil by putting opposing force depending on the direction of inertia and movement. Your posts genuinely baffle me.

I honestly have no idea what you actually expect a weapon to react like when shot. Can you actually link me to video examples of what you constitute as good feedback and recoil from weapon fire in a game? I'd love to see it.

EDIT: See the response below as well.

Yea you're right, with that weapon there is minimal recoil on the actual reticule, it's just the gun and sights that moves around a lot, which makes me think they just haven't mapped the recoil to the weapon animation yet. There seems to be a lot more with weapon in the second video I posted. But as I said before, GG did mention they have not finalised recoil and are still working on it.

The thing is, I've actually shot many guns throughout my life and they all move a hell of a lot more than the guns in Shadow Fall do. Killzone 2 was much closer to real life. Shadow Fall will still be my first purchase for PS4, but it still doesn't look like the guns handle the way I'd prefer. It sounds like it will be better than KZ3, but - in my eyes at least - KZ2 will remain king.

It's weird seeing people bashing this game's gameplay as not "next gen" enough, when several of those same people are buying Ryse, Forza, or looking forward to Killer Instinct. Sounds like some sort of bias, doesn't it?

Well exactly which next gen launch title is doing something better? Killzone gameplay has only been solid.
Killzone has tight, linear levels, and you are strictly limited as to what you can climb or the location you can visit = "OMG, COD CLONE!!!11111"

Killzone has sandbox style levels with verticality, can approach objectives in any other or any way you desire, and the ability to transverse almost any area in the level with the OWL + able to climb (a lot of games tend to have this artificial barrier where you can only climb on certain objects) = "meh, not next-gen enough. It's a boring FPS."

I'm actually kind of glad that we have basically seen nothing of the single player. It's like all of us are going in blind and seeing all of these sure to be beautiful locations.

That being said, we will probably get a trailer soon that will spoil practically every location :(

Don't really care about the locations or how good the game looks. GG have always been good at graphics. Their biggest weak point is a compelling story and good writing to hold the campaign together. KZ3 was a great looking game but largely forgettable.

I hope driveclub has this fog. Light piercing through think fog would look awesome. Game looks too plain atm
Light barely pierces thick fog (most of it gets reflected back), so if you want to try and drive through a white wall at high speeds go for it!

I am surprised to see screen tearing in that video, none of the previous videos of shadowfall be it mp or sp had any screen tearing!
Possibly still optimising after the visual upgrades?

It looks good, but I am still waiting to see something new. It seems like they picked the most uninteresting level they could possibly choose.

I've shot different guns but I always think scifi games get a some degree of leniency from me for the shooting mechanics. Even though they have to be a bit based on real life, otherwise I guess they might feel weird, I always think the meghanics in the gun are totally different from our reality.

I'm glad that it's not all laser/plasma/whatever based. One of the thinks i really liked in KZ2/3 is the gun feeling. They sound really nasty and powerfull.

Puny pew pew sounds of weapons in games are always very distracting and destroy the feeling of shooting a powerful weapon.

I meant rolling mist you seen the video, it would look great in DC. Patches of think fog would be great as well.

Yes, I've always been lient toward sci-fi games as well. I think most gamers expect different gun mechanics from games set in the future. It would be unreasonable not to expect that, really.

It's crunch time for these devs, right? The game should be going gold in a couple of weeks so they can start pressing copies.

Yeah, both Eric Boltjes and and Steven ter Heide have been mentioning that it's a rough crunch right now. Shu even said to them on Friday that he hoped they could go home this weekend.

More like the game should be going gold sometime this week.

You usually want around 3-4 weeks to make sure there have been enough copies printed and shipped to retailers for launch. I imagine it's pretty much complete by now.

Yea, this game seems to be in great shape. Its just missing some effects. But DC, we haven't seen a single gameplay vid showing more than one car on screen....

By this time motorstorm had transformed into a great looking ps3 game

Supposedly the team at Evo recorded a new gameplay video last week so we should get some new DC footage any day now. Rushy also mentioned that they would be showing off proper races soon.

DC i do not worry about, I get to play sample the game for free, there is no risk involved on the consumers end. They dont have to show another screen shot at this point, come Nov 16th it will be the most played next gen title, and feedback will be everywhere.

KZ/BF I need to see as much as possible to decide where I put my money.

It's probably mental right now for every team out there working on a launch game. The amount of pressure must be brutal.
Yea, probably Gold in 2 weeks, then continue working at break neck speed chugging coffee like a boss to polish up a 5 gig patch on Day 1...

Day 1 patch has become standard practice (though next-gen we will see the patch size increase dramatically)

It is fraeking future. Youd better hope guns have little to none recoil. I have fired an assault rifle and recoil is quite small anyways. Well ofcourse after one gets used to it. It is especially suprising how small foreces felt hipfireing. One would think shots would be allover the place. It was close range, but one should not hipfire full auto at longer range anyway.

Hope they get rid of the screen tearing. Everything looks gorgeous, but it tears every time the player moves the camera.

Yeah the screen-tearing looks really bad. I'm not usually one to notice that sort of thing either. Won't necessarily stop me from picking it up, but it would be nice if they could fix or limit it.

The AI seems very stupid(cod style) compared to other KZ games. I have yet to see them taking cover at all.
Look at the encounter.

*Sentery walking in forest gets stabbed
*His buddy shoots the player dead and runs towards to the alarm
*then he takes out three who ate guarding the ship
*envounter in building player takes out two

I think he was playing on easy...

Games are often set to easy mode for demonstration purposes. Nothing turns off a reviewer or a would be consumer like getting gang banged by the helghast.

You want to showcase all aspects of the game not just what it looks like when you die or when 500 smg rounds are directed at you. You want the gamer to be able to navigate, fire their weapon, and take in the scenery.

No one even thought about OS usage based on what evilalien said. You brought it up.

My reading of the situation is that you laughed at him because you thought he was wrong when he said that triple buffering should be included because the PS4 has so much memory. He then sources a technical article that points out that he is right and the most important factor in triple buffering is memory. You, instead of saying: My mistake go and then somehow bring in in OS allocation which wasn't part of the conversation.

VRAM =/= RAM. Semantics are important in the IT field. He said RAM, I laughed. I know it's hard to understand but that was the point I've been trying to get across several times. I know very, VERY well what the fuck triple buffering is, what it does and how it works.

Killzone 2 had the best AI I had seen to date in an FPS game as long as you didn't set it on "Mommy hold my hand!" mode.

As people have already stated, most of the time that you see videos from shows you can be sure that the mode was set to Easy.

yes they teased these in KZ Mercs. Level design seems open

the levels seem gigantic

Sweet! I'd love for an FPS game to return to the mission structure of GoldenEye/Perfect Dark.

Going BF4 on PS4 for that awesome, awesome 64 player MP. Definitely getting Killzone because of exclusivity, SP, and being able to experience first hand what this machine is capable of.

Don't look too much into it. Everyone said the same about Killzone Mercenary when it was being demoed everywhere and then the game came out and on higher difficulties, the A.I is fantastic. Floor demos are rarely a good metric for how the A.I will perform.

When are we FINALLY going to see a new level?

What is this game? 3 levels long? Come on!
The game is seven weeks away, there's plenty of time for them to show more.

Personally, I have no issues with not seeing too much of the game. Too many games leave little to discover after their marketing push.

Four weeks. Killzone Shadow Fall will be present on the PS4 launch in the United States on November 15.
