I guess I'll be calling this design Rihante from now on, to distinguish it from the later redesigns of Dino.Dahbomb said:Also for those keeping track of Dante's transformations:

Offhand, LA Noire is the only other game I can think of it to use it, and that's set against a black backdrop, so surely there can't be that many boxarts using the motif. Though for my own entertainment, I'm ready for someone to post a huge lineup of example boxarts showing otherwise.![]()

It sucks to be Ninja Theory, I wouldn't want to deal with this level of frenzied hyperbole. Not sure if I've seen a fan base like this before. (Not just this NeoGAF thread - some of the reactions/commentary on other sites.)
They did the right thing with him in the end, though.shagg_187 said:Another Cole McGrath fiasco.
I notice how you didn't mention game-play. lolThe Praiseworthy said:We share the same mind my friend.... ;-)
Plus the really good atmosphere... the soundtracks... the script... and the cut scenes... the amazing art direction .
NT... what an underrated team :-( .
This is way more cliche'. DMC never chose to delve too much into the back story and the ambiguity was welcomed in many regards. We just went from a rather opened Sparda interacting with a female human in some capacity to surely some battle between forces crap. That's what a ton of Japanese media does just to set the setting for action scenes piled up. The former was way better and had a mysterious touch.ezekial45 said:To be fair, the half-human/half-demon back story is a cliche as well. I'm intrigued where they want to take this though. It's different and it opens it up to new possibilities.
I'm guessing that his normal abilities will reflect his angel side and the devil side will be as we know it. I think this because the story is alluding to some cross-dimensional or dream-esque back-story. Typically, this is where Dante uses one of the angel/devil sides to escape the world or changes existences, etc...Dahbomb said:I wonder if Dante will have an angel trigger... lol.

Jocchan said:It's funny how, even though the later redesigns have brought Dino much closer to the tone of original Dante, the same people cheering for the Rihante design, and lamenting how little they liked the original, are still cheering it and talk about the design being improved.
It's still developed by Ninja TheoryRaelson said:Looks pretty cool. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
More like a new angel, amirite?BobTheFork said:I always assume they reboot because they think a 'new angle' will... help sell more? Is it just because they think the game could reach more people? They don't seem to be changing anything that would have stopped people from buying it anyways.
But that's the point! Isn't it?jett said:You know, I'm looking at that trailer objectively, wondering what, if anything, Ninja Theory is bringing to the series gameplay-wise.
The answer is nothing. It looks like a DMC knockoff.

You are correct, in fact it now seems to be some sort of middle ground. What I found funny, though, is how those changes are seen as improvements.GuardianE said:I think they're trying to find a medium. Something not immediately offensive to DMC fans, and something that is different enough to capture people put off by OG Dante design. People who liked Rihante are easier to please in general, as they share a communal optimism. As long as it's different, they'll appreciate.
This is still my main issue with the game.jett said:You know, I'm looking at that trailer objectively, wondering what, if anything, Ninja Theory is bringing to the series gameplay-wise.

jett said:It's barely the character design that makes people hate on this, I point at DMC4 which had an entirely new character, it didn't get this kind of pre-release hate. It's Ninja Theory being in charge, it's their attitude towards the fanbase, it's Capcom treating us like idiots, it's Unrealfuckingengine, it's the game itself not looking too hot, its a clusterfuck of terrible community management and PR.
And yeah...it's also the character redesign!
