New Far Cry: Instincts: Predator (Xbox 360) Shots.

^^

If you totally ignore the PC as a gaming platform, then I can see your point. But it's been pretty gradual to me.

Can somebody clarify this: Instincts is a sequel or remake of the PC version? I noticed in the Xboxyde videos you hear Doyle talking but if you played the pc version, you know that wouldn't make too much sense. And Predator is a new single player campaign?

Gotta say Vennt is becoming one of my favourite mods of all time.

Little talk - lotsa banning action, I like that :)

Read the thread and all will be answered.

that new trailer is pretty cool. its nice to finally see the game in action rather then teases of the environment or water videos :P

the game itself looks pretty good. some of the areas lookd great, but its obvious its not really an engine re-write taking advantage of the system. 60 fps should be quite cool, so i'm still cautiously looking forward to this, but i expect more for my 360. give me a farcry that looks like that cg bit at th end :)

How much more could you expect (based off of what is already out)? I wish I saved the quotes I had re: next gen and people's expectations. Going by the games supposed 60fps, this is far more impressive than 90% of what's on offer for the 360.

i honestly think something comparable to the cg at the end is doable...

and just cause this looks better then thaw, gun and a few others, doesnt mean its even in the same ballpark as pgr3 and graw, regardless of framerate. its a decent current gen port, like burnout, battlefield, etc.

No. It's never 'regardless of frame rate'. How a game performs is as, or more important than how it looks. I play games, not stare at them.

And PGR3 is not all that.

Maybe you guys are too used to fanboys. I wasn't refferring to the 360 at all. I was speaking of videogames across any/all platforms. I could have been a lot clearer with my statement. I know that the 360 catches a lot of flak but I recent pulled out my Atari 2600 and thats what birthed my remark.

The whole 'fanboy' thing doesn't really register with me. But yeah, when comparing the SNES to the 2600, let alone the 360, will remind anyone of how far we've come in terms of visuals.

it is all that, and 30fps games are completely playable. having far cry run at 60 does not make it a better looking or playing game then anything running at 30. sorry.

this framerate non-sense is completely out of control for some of you. maybe you have crazy sensitive eyes where it really is this important, but for me, its just another layer of graphical polish. its not needed for a game to be great, and in some cases, other graphical effects are more important.

You're very wrong. You picked the wrong genre to say that frame rate doesn't matter. A genre where precise aiming is key.

There's an interactve element here. One that you 30fps sympathizers seem to ignore.

Furthermore, you say you expect more from the 360 from a visual standpoint, but could care less about the performance? That's just backwards.

No point in going back and forth with me on this. But for a $400 machine, I don't think 60fps is a lot to ask for.

60fps does make it much better looking in my eyes. Better playing i dont think so. I loved goldeney multiplayer which was what 10 fps?

Exactly, my Atari brought me back to earth. Again, I should have been a bit clearer with my original message.

I'm going to have to check out the PC version so I can see how they comparee.

you assume 60fps is a necessity. it isnt. 30 fps is perfectly adaquet. look at halo. look at pgr3 (oh it IS awesome!). of course, i'd definitely agree that some genres (racing, fighting and fps mainly) benefit more then others at having 60fps, its certainly not a deal breaker (well, it probably could be for fighting games). i never said it doesnt matter. the level at which it matters though, is certainly open for debate.

we'll have to agree to disagree.

EDIT: lol @ post below. yeah, sorry. hopefully this is the end of this side track.

How long will it be till 60FPS is the low end standard for consoles? Im thinking maybe it'll take 2-3 more generations. I still dont think we have the HP to spare to dedicate to FPS for developers who are on the fence as to which one to choose. We aren't even fully into this new generation yet so maybe we could see it in the latter half of life cycle.

60fps will never be a uniform thing. Not as long as publishers force deadlines. When a game isn't 60fps, it's because of lack of optimization (or over ambitious devs, although I think any game that can hit a solid 30 could do 60 with some time and TLC).

A quick solution would be to have modes where you can play at either 30 or 60fps. Sacrifice some (useless) detail if needed to achieve 60fps.

I'll never understand why people argue w/ those that want more than the minimum when it comes to gaming.

why does 60 fps ever need to be the low end standard. the human eye can only perceive so much, do we honestly need to have our games running at 120 or 180 or 300FPS or some shit. yeah, id like to have every game up to 60, its not necessary for a good game but it certainly doesnt hurt, and if possible why not, but why do we need more than 60FPS

I wish consoles games had as many graphics options as pc games. Especially the pc ports. I wouldn't mind turning off eye candy like fancy shadows for a better running game. I think 60 fps will be standard for many next gen titles by next year. i hope so anyway, 60 fps is just so damn smooth.

you're not the only one .. i would love to be able to play sotc at 60 at the expense of some of the lighting effects.

The level editor will be there which Ubi is beefing up over the standard Xbox version and you will be able to upload them to play on Live.

There's a reason why Model II was all that and then some way back in 1993. Prior to that hardware, there were no 60fps 3D games. That shit right there was major.

Anyway, no more frame rate talk until this baby is playable.

Another thing i wish is that these level editors could be run on a pc, and the map transfered to the console. I couldn't imagine trying to make a map with a control pad and a gimped level editor.

Classic half way between gen shots. Insanely awesome water, pretty cool environments, last gen character models :lol

Err, no.

Just because 1 aspect (character models) doesn't make as drastic a jump as others (whatever you think looks "next-gen" here), doesn't mean it's "last gen".

Making maps in the editor of the Xbox version was insanely easy with the control pad. As soon as you figure out where everything is it is a fantastic utility.

Exactly, see the Full Auto demo for reference. On G4 one of the developers basically said that Full Auto would be 60fps or bust. Well, if it is, so what? IMO it doesn't touch PGR3 graphically, or in gameplay- at least the demo.

That's JMO though.

BTW, PGR3 is all that, and that ain't opinion- that's a fact baby!!! :D

Hmm, looks better than PC version at same resolution to me. Water in particular.

Well no shit, SHERLOCK.

The PC version is two years old.

Some smart brain you got there.
