New IP you really liked, but Dev died or whatever forcing no sequel

Nox. Overshadowed by Diablo 2 and never got a sequel.

What happened to Westwood? They just stopped making games.

This is on my wishlist on GOG.

MAG was awesome, such an underrated gem of a game.

I always thought it would have done so much better running on the PC where it really could have found a stronger community.

When you got a match with enough good players, the tug-of-war gameplay could just be so epic.

I only played the demo but I had a ton of fun with it. I'd literally spends hours playing on that single map. I think the servers are still up too since I was able to play it a few months ago. I'd probably check out a new end-gen or next-gen sequel.

I would kill for a Shadowrun sequel. Most fun FPS of this gen with excellent, interesting maps and 4 classes that truly felt unique and different from eachother. Absolute blast of a game.

Anachronox
Skies of Arcadia

Anachronox 2 could probably be kickstarted if it had a reasonable budget (something like Dreamfall Chapters) and they could secure some private investment.

Skies of Arcadia 2 will never happen, and even if it did, Sega would probably tear the IP to pieces.

Phantasy Star isn't a new IP but I would love to see PSU 2 on next gen consoles. So annoying how PSO 2 is going to be for PC only plus vita. PSU was my first experience with Phantasy Star and great memories were made.

I've talked about it in many threads before, but the death of LucasArts makes it official: we will never see a sequel to Gladius. Not that there was really any hope before.

Such a great concept. You played as a gladiator roaming the land, recruiting & equipping a highly customizable band of warriors to partake in arena battles. The battle system was a really great RPG-strategy-action combination. Even had a co-op mode & the ability to take on your friend's team. So much variety in this game -- I sunk more time into it than any other game in the GameCube-PS2-Xbox era (it was on all three, as well as the PC). Nevermore, nevermore.

I'm a huge Sega and Phantasy Star fanboy. I've played every PSO and PSU game and yeah.... how can you go wrong with the classics as well? Without PSO there'd be no PSU! :P

I want to say .Hack though for my answer. At least, when it comes to a true console RPG, there hasn't been a new .Hack since the PS2 also.

Holy shit! I thought I was the only one that played this game. I only vaguely remember it, but I liked it, even though I sucked balls at it. Probably one of the first proper PC games I ever played.

Lol. The game was pretty overshadowed and it wasn't the best arpg out there but it had everything in check.

-Good story
-Good characters
-Funny dialogue
-Fun gameplay
-Great on the technical front of graphics and phenomenal art style
-Good replay value with the 3 class choices

Not to mention the soundtrack was top notch.

Truly a classic if you ask me but alas, another game that EA, i'm sure, has absolutely no clue about.

I know this isn't going to be the most popular choice around here as the game was generally panned on gaf (and everywhere, really). But the people who were dedicated to this game know how much potential was there. 256 player battles, vehicles, bunkers, turrets, actual ranks in the game that meant something (like the leader of your platoon could call in air strikes or block the enemies radar).

It was, in my opinion, the most hardcore shooter on consoles this gen. It was basically impenetrable to new players which made the whole 'free to play' release a complete failure. It took atleast 50 hours of play to memorize each of the humongous maps. It also took a long time to understand why the bunkers, the AA and other targets were important to attack/defend.

The thing that took it to an entire different level for me though is the absolute beast mode that good players could go on from time to time. Now it took you to be on defense, usually, and in a part of the map you know perfectly... for the squad going up against you and the nearby squads to be fairly dumb. But a typical game of MAG would end for a normal player with like 20 kills and 18 deaths. Someone amazing at the game could break 100 though. Just absolutely go off and get in this zone where you are just fucking RAMBO-ing the entire other army. I never got 100, i broke 50 a couple times, but goddamn it was just amazing to watch.

Unfortunately the high entry level of skill and game knowledge needed combined with the fact that it wasn't call of duty meant that MAG lived a pretty quiet life with a small but dedicated fanbase. And now, of course, Zipper is no more. But for two straight gens they have given me my favorite shooters for each. Socom 2 and now MAG.

This Completely. I am never into Online Shooters for very long. But I played the shit out of this game. I loved the huge maps and battles. I wish my backlog wasn't so big which eventually buried gems like this.

That's funny, because my comment was going to be

I'd love a PS4 sequel to Warhawk that is actually like Warhawk. A PS4 Starhawk sequel on the otherhand, well I would keep an eye on it at least. Too bad neither are going to happen.

The fact that there will be no Hawk game at all next-gen hurts my soul :(

max payne 4 :(

i really liked max payne 3

Team Bondi is no more and its remnants are working on Whore of the Orient, so I have no idea what has become of the L.A. Noire IP. Rockstar owns the rights now and I'm not sure how eager they are to work on a sequel given the unique, expensive motion capture tech involved with the first game. I'd love a sequel though.

We will get sequels to both these games. These IPs are too large to let them die.

Max Payne is rougher though, considering it seems like it lost RS money. But we'll see Max Payne again.

I wanted to give Bionic Commando another try if Grin patched the games problems. I also believe a sequel would've been much better.

Behind SimCity, this may be my most disappointing release of all time.

This

Heavenly Sword.
Heavenly_Sword_Game_Cover.jpg

I know Ninja Theory are still around, and Sony own the IP but I don't see a sequel being made. I know there was a rumour that SCE Cambridge were working on it but then it also emerged they cancelled it because it wasn't commercially/economically viable or something.

What Sony should do, is get a team like Ready at Dawn to make a prequel game, say Heavenly Sword: Origins for Vita. Give it another shot at the public and see if there's still enough interest to warrant a full on Heavenly Sword II for PS4. Please!

Say what you want, I know it doesn't compare to a traditional civilization games but I still enjoy and play this on my ps3 to this day.

My first real mmo experience. So many hours. text chatting and I could make my Elf Bard sing songs with just the dualshock 2 controller. Really well designed command layout. Not to mention this mmo ran off of the dvd disc, no install required.

Shining Soul. Best action RPG right after LOD. The original was alright, but Shining Soul 2 was amazing. So many different characters/classes and play styles. Very deep for a GBA game. Solid experience top to bottom. When the DS was announced I was hyped as shit for a Shining Soul 3 on DS. But no dice. :(

What was the other gladiator game on the PS2? In this one I think you could actually dismember enemies, was M rated of course. Want to find a copy and play it as well, think it's considered another hidden gem.

The fact that de Blob will probably never have a new game makes me incredibly sad. Yes it had one sequel, but it should have become a franchise damnit.

Haven't seen this one mentioned.

I really enjoyed it, shame it sort of went under the radar and now Game Republic is dead :( They made some amazing games, I loved the Dragon Ball games they made for the DS and the Dragon Ball Z Kai fighting game on the DS. Easily the best fighting game on the DS, shame it never got localized.

Like most, I agree with Alpha Protocol. And Phantom Dust. Also EQOA. But my personal...

I never really played Battlefield before this current gen and this was my second experience with massive shooting after Planetside. I was shocked they got 50 player maps going, albeit short lived. I even liked the single player, so what!

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
F6gdTWZ.jpg

It did a lot right, but it still had a lot of room for improvement. If it had any marketing for it maybe SuperBot would still be around to make a sequel :(

Great little action game here with plenty of character, fun vechile sections, and some of the more enjoyable "Take over a bad guy!" mechanics, going inside their body and communicating with the other bad guys.

Didn't sell very well, there were bought by Blizzard in '05. Last I heard they were working on Starcraft: Ghost...

:/

edit: KRYPTO I LOVE YOU
Yes, YES

There are so few who have played this on GAF.

Couldn't agree more. The ads, while cool, didn't sell people on a game as much as they rewarded fans.

So nice to see all the Folklore, Nier and Psi Ops love here. Three vastly underappreciated games, imo.

Also, I oh so wish we could get a Zack & Wiki 2 on Wii U or 3DS, the systems are ripe for that kinda game.
The same goes for:

Oh and I know these are sequels themselves, but still!
