New Last of Us Cinematic

So comparing a studio's current game, which shares tech from previous games from said studio, is somehow illogical and stupid?

Many other games get complaints about brown visuals, from my eyes The Last of us has very brown and yellow visuals. Uncharted as a series had a very vibrant color scheme.

I didn't even say The Last of us looks horribly bad or worse than Uncharted, but thanks for not elaborating on why I'm horribly wrong.

Uh...

The weakest thing about The Last of us is the visuals so far, way too much brown and yellowish coloring for my taste.

I understand that the world in The Last of us is decrepit and horrible, but why does it look like a dirt bomb blew up in every room? I imagine the outdoor areas probably look much more varied, but the visuals aren't at the same level as Uncharted at this point.

Also Ellie being a punk/sassy seems wayyyy too typical. I'm not asking for a fearful, overly spastic girl, but Ellie is plain unlikable.

Like I guess it's cool that she isn't a pushover. But she is doing the most with the whole "tough shit" front. Lol. I just want to see what happens when shit really hits the fan. As in Joel not around to help.

If Joel wasn't around, she probably would have taken that guy out. Seems like she can take care of herself.

I fucking hate gaf and these stupid rollercoaster of comments sometimes.

Wow, I realize that this scene was in a small room but those character models, details everywhere, AA quality, oh man. I know they use higher quality models for cinematics but still, shit looks awesome. How can anyone say this doesn't look awesome is mind boggling.

I liked the scene. Ellie reminds me of the little girl of Kickass. She has a potty mouth and is a bit of a bitch. But she will learn along the way I think, Joel seems to be a good mentor. Will be an intresting character arc,

Naughty Dog, goddam. Why do I keep spoiling myself like this?

And imagine this looking a lot better when it releases. The differences between early Uncharted 3 cinematics and the final product where pretty huge.

Looking good, still ages before it releases in 2013.

The waiting will be tough since this year there's nothing I care about on the system this year.

It's going to be big in 2013.

For example, one thing not highlighted the first time the demo was shown was a key moment where Joel could interact with a poster for a faux horror flick called “Dawn of the Wolf.” The importance of the interaction had nothing to do with gameplay, but was meant to serve as a character moment, one where Ellie learns a little more about how the world was before she was born, and before the outbreak. This was also an opportunity for Ellie and Joel to develop the bond that is at the heart of The Last of Us. These moments will apparently be peppered throughout the game, and will be completely optional – it’s up to the player how deep they want to delve into the story.

.

Then it's clear you haven't been keeping up with all the other trailers released for the game. The game has a slightly desaturated look but to assert that it has "very brown and yellow visuals" is a bold faced lie. In the trailer that's posted here, the whole action takes place within a brick house post infestation. Any logical individual would know that there would be a lack of upkeep.

Anyhow, pertaining to OP, ND's visuals look astounding esp. on hardware now over 6 years old.

One little criticism which I have (and perhaps things will change a bit more before launch) is that the facial animations look a touch lifeless compared to previous trailers. I remember that ND does facial animations by hand unlike other studios, say, like Quantic Dream. I know it gives them a great advantage when it comes to ADR. I guess I've been a bit spoiled by Beyond Two Souls after watching the behind the scene.

Btw, loving Ellie.

Dan Dority!

Looking really good. Hope we get to see some gameplay with the infected sometime soon. I'm curious to see how those sections will play out compared to the E3 stuff.

I will play this game so much, most hyped game for me, seems amazing. I really can't wait, plan to play this twice since I bet I will have my native language on this one, so I'm curious for both versions of acting.

Hoping to be able to pick this on day one.

Am I the only one that noticed that this is basically an elaborate setup for a fetch quest?

"I need a car!"
"I can get you one, but first you need to get these items for me."
"OK, where? How?"
"I just happen to have this detailed map under all this junk, let's gooo!"

Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking and well acted fetch quest, and is making me consider getting a PS3.

EDT: triggaz saw it too.

Also, ITT we discover that most of GAF has no clue about 14 year old girls. ;p

Any task in any game is now a fetch quest, apparently.

I'm fine with a fetch quest if we can explore that entire map area seamlessly (seemed rather open) and enemies don't respawn in the area. It could make for a pretty compelling combat scenario. Throw in some good mood and atmosphere and you have a good game experience.

So is this going to be The Road with sticky jumps? If its anything like Silent Hill I'll consider buying it but I doubt ND have the balls to make a game that tough.

Car parts are big and heavy though, so I imagine some puzzles bringing it back will be part of the game. I can't wait to learn more about this game world. The other day I saw the movie Book of Eli and realized how great it is.

It's pretty obvious, yes.

Oh for sure, I didn't want to come across as a wet blanket. I just thought it was humorous that the hype around this game is about the unique gameplay and this clip sets up a pretty standard mechanic that's been around for ages. I'm sure it will have a unique twist to it.

For some really weird reason i've been thinking that the last of us is going to be naughty dog's next gen series for the ps4 and the reason why they are starting the series so late in the ps3's life is because they want people to notice how big of a generational leap the ps4 will be. I don't know if its my crazy sleep deprived mind that's making me think such things but it's making me hype as fuck for next gen. I froth at the mouth thinking what the last of us 2 would look like on 2012 hardware

Yeah. In a post apocalyptic world who would have thought characters would have to search and fetch stuff. Everything should pretty much be at their disposal.

Yes, but all the bells and whistles make it a lot more than just that. We learn a lot about Joel and Bill's long-standing but tense friendship just from the few nuggets of dialogue added by the scriptwriters. Not to mention Ellie's attitude about the whole thing.

There are little subtextual clues all through what we've seen from this game so far. I think it's a promising step forward for videogame writing, which usually ends up bashing you over the head with obviousness.

This game really needs to be on the Wii U. (Very obviously kidding btw)

I'd love to play this game, but there's no way I could play such a violent, vulgar game with the kids around. It needs to be able to be streamed to a private screen where innocent eyes and ears won't be exposed to such things; otherwise this is sadly a pass.

Anyone know if PS3/Vita will be able to pull off the Wii U thing and stream PS3 content to the Vita? Or is that only for PS3V multiplat games?

lol. Somehow I find it hilarious that people are actually complaining about the swearing.

I don't know if that's in reference to my post or not, but I have a young daughter that likes to sit and watch me play games. The occasional swear is fine, but this is way past appropriate for little kids. That's obviously not the fault of the developers, but sadly something I must take into consideration when choosing games.

Though I found it a little weird that Joel knows the guy. You'd think that in a world like this people would stick together in groups, not split up and living in relative proximity. "Let's go visit my old friend, he lives two blocks down the road" seems a little weird in a post-apocalyptic world.
