My friend was at the event he said the game is pretty good. -.-

Why couldn't they make it open ended without all the Fulton and base building bullshit, seriously hated that shit from pw.

I want to be able to find weapons instead of capturing enemy soldiers, so I have more research so in two missions time I would have unlocked that silencer on that Ak...

No stealth, we Pokemon now.

That end quote from the magazine.

It's the biggest Metal Gear ever. It's the deepest Metal Gear ever. And after poking and prying and experimenting and playing inside its many places and menus for two whole days, I'm utterly convinced that this new vision for Metal Gear Solid is a masterstroke.
Moving the mechanics into a sandbox environment is as big an evolutionary step as when Metal Gear made the transition to the Solid series and three dimensions. The wait for September is going to be excruciating, but when MGS V finally arrives it's going to be so much more than anybody but Kojima himself had envisoned.

Wow.

This game pretty much sounds like a stealth fans dream game. Shame it'll be the last metal gear worth a damn, but this certainly looks like a masterpiece in the making.

September really can't come soon enough

I wonder to what degree this game will alienate newcomers to the series...

Kojima has said the story is presented in a way that welcomes newcomers while still being deep enough for longtime fans (and flashbacks are a series tradition), and the gameplay isn't that far removed from a normal TPS game. It'll probably be the least alienating one yet.

That's heartening. I've only played MGS2 and MGS4. I really should play MGS1, 3, PW, and GZ...but, for a variety of reasons, I may not be able to give those a try before MGSV comes out. I really want to try this new one but I don't want to compromise my experience due to a lack of familiarity with some of the other key titles.

The Witcher 3 is still the favorite to win GOTY (It's really an amazing game) MGSV TPP better be every bit as amazing as the previews suggest, to even have a shot at completing. Right now I'm leaning toward Witcher 3, but if MGSV TPP is as dark as that "nuclear" trailer hints at....then I'm open to change my mind.

My hype is near zero now. First, open world games tend to bore me, only Xenoblade didn't and it still had some linearity in it, but this looks like GTA V (wich is cool, but boring), I don't care about taking showers and micro-manage my base, I want to have fun. The tv series nature is another thing that makes me afraid, we're going to see hours and hours of video aren't we? And the cassettes... can I please read directly a transcription of what is being said so I don't have to listen to it?
I wouldn't be comparing this and GTA V in your head if I were you. It's not the same kind of open world.

Personally, I'm not really expecting for an 'awesome open-world', in the sense of a beautiful, lush world to get lost in.

I'm expecting an awesome 'super huge sandbox level', where the size of the levels amplify the diversity of the toolset, approach, options and gameplay replayability of the main missions and the side missions.

Tldr; I'm expecting MGSV to be what the Far Cry franchise wanted to be, but way better.

This is what I'm expecting too.

Getting lost in an MGS game (or any game really) is the last thing I want to do. They're hardly ever very beautiful in an interactive sense, merely a "here's a sunset" sense.

But anyways, ideally this would be more like a zelda game, where there's a very focused main quest but with plenty of opportunity to check things out on the side and sometimes do things in different order.

People advise against doing it, and it's definitely not the optimal to experience the series, but if you're really pressed for time you could just play MGS3, PW and Ground Zeroes. Those are the ones that are most important to this game since they are its direct predecessors chronologically. There will most likely be callbacks to games like MGS1 in TPP that you might not get having not played them.

Cardboard Box spoiler:

Apparently, you can stand up with the box still on and run around using your gun through the handle hole.#ManTank

In the magazine,
the writer shared a personal anecdote about one mission where he desperately needed one more soldier to build a sniper rifle. He captured a soldier, added him to the R&D team, developed and then had delivered the rifle he needed, all without leaving the mission.

Last Page reference- Played enough of Witcher 3 and (sadly for it..) after Bloodborne that i can barely get through the gameplay without shaking my head at the slow unresponsive fighting and putting it down to clean the taste out of my mouth with BB.

MGS is pure breed GOTY material every single time. And this sounds like a beautiful swan song of the series. No way Geralt and his lazy sidesteps take it out of bosses big red mechanical hand.

still... Witcher is pretty good.

The stuff with influencing how guards react from other bases is Insane. There is no action game that has this level of world interaction. This sounds groundbreaking. Sounds like the perfect game.

Hey guys Konami just fired me but no fucks given i met George Miller.

Haha nice Kojima!

MGSV:TPP will really make you feel like a boss, and perceive the weight of your responsibility

Last month, Miguel Asher of South American gaming show Atomix Show was present at the MGSV Preview Event in LA, and in a video he talked a bit about his impressions – which were only positive. Credits for the translation of this information go to YongYea.

As said before, the morale of Snake’s soldiers will drop when he’s gone too long from Mother Base. According to Miguel, the game really makes you feel like a boss, and the player will feel the weight of their decisions. Also, when Snake returns to Mother Base soldiers will line up and salute him. As Snake walks around the base (for example, to take a shower), Kaz and Ocelot will accompany him and walk along with him, one on each side, while giving him information and advice, on what to build and develop for Mother Base for example. They will also automatically distribute the soldiers Snake fultonned across the various units, but you can do it yourself to achieve the best results. Soldiers on Mother Base will also ask Snake to train with them. All in all, the game will really make you feel like you’re the ultimate leader, the ‘Big Boss’ of this small army.

It looks like every weapon can be improved through R&D. You’ll be able to develop a sniper rifle that can shoot tranquilizer rounds. For some weapons, like this sniper rifle, you not only have to get your unit to a certain level, but also recruit specific staff, in this case an anesthesiologist.

As we’ve seen in gameplay videos Snake can lean on one side of his horse to avoid being spotted by the enemy. But apparently he can also shoot from this position, using one handed weapons.

Miguel also said that the game will have less cutscenes, but there is still an awesome story. Players can expect to see some very bizarre things in the game, and they won’t believe some of the things they will see. Miguel also praised the soundtrack, calling it nothing short of incredible, and stating that the stuff we’ve heard in GZ and in the trailers is just the tip of the iceberg.

In the video, Miguel also gave his opinion on the game. Going by the 16 hours he has played, he thinks this is the best game Konami has ever released. He also feels this game is easily a Game of the Year contender, with Bloodborne being the only true competition in his eyes. Comparing MGSV to Assassin’s Creed, he thinks The Phantom Pain makes the latter look like a poor man’s open world game, and that unlike AC, TPP has heart. He felt Kiefer Sutherland sounded more like a soldier, while David Hayter sounded a bit more ‘fake’ in earlier games.

So in short, another very positive impression of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It looks like the game is shaping up to be everything Hideo Kojima envisioned.

Oh lord.

Hnnnnnnnnnggggggggg.

A good version of the initial concept, freed from its pitly-ass handheld format?

I love the hell out of Peace Walker ( my favourite MGS game of them all, even if I wouldn't call it the best ), so nah.

PW was imo, the right direction to evolve the Big Boss saga. From Tactical Espionage Action to Tactical Espionage Operations. From being a solo-operative to "Big Boss", from soldier to leader.

Sure, there were many limitations in PW's design to accommodate bite-sized gameplay, but it was jam-packed with content, diverse gameplay ideas and mechanics, and it was a joy to play.
