Foe anyone after matte HD bay you can always buy the matte skin for very cheap and apply it to the bay. This This is what my carbon fibre ps4 looks like now.
Xbox One is now matte. The redesigned 360 was glossy originally then back to matte, iirc.
Looking at the reduced power consumption, I wonder if the APU already received a die shrink. It's too early for that, right?
the surface of the new PS4 system’s HDD bay cover will come in a matte finish, giving the system a more casual look.
Sony could sell another 20M consoles before a full redesign's possible. That's a lot of cost saving.Kinda surprised they're bothering with this one but I guess it sends the message that a slim isn't coming (it is already very slim)
That's a different console tbf and the 360 was matte originally and went glossy with 360 slim 5 years later. Yes there was a matte version of that console in some bundle as well IIRC, but it still was a minority.
.UPDATE #2: I've heard back from Sony and it's confirmed that the 1TB PS4 uses older, original PS4 architecture. The revised hardware coming to Japan at the end of the month is different. If and when it will arrive here Sony Europe couldn't say.
Well in any case, glossy never seems to stick after being introduced. There almost always seems to be at least one matte revision later.
Price?
Pointless, I'll buy a second PS4 when the real hardware revision comes.
What does CUM stand for? And what does 1200 refer to?
new PS4 model CUH-1200 announced. It will be shipping end of June in Japan and rest of the world later.
some of the changes are
8% less power consumption compared to previous model
10% lighter
HDD cover is same matte finish as the rest of the body
It's still same 500GB HDD and same price ($399 in the US)

The matte looks soooo much better :/ I wish they'd sell matte covers.
I would guess the new revision is cheaper to produce. Hopefully a $50 price drop comes around the holidays.
50 is a mistake imo, 50 won;t have a big impact, better off going the full 100 sales will explode.

Would it be a loss leader with a drop of $100? I don't see a reason why Sony would want that.
The need to sell that matte HDD cover separately.
They did with ps2. They would do it to boost momentum, grow market share faster, get more money from software , PS plus.
