Oh for fuck's sake Capcom ENOUGH with co-op and partner characters in Resident Evil.
Can we at least give them a chance?
We haven't even seen gameplay yet.

With Barry's daughter being involved its guaranteed to be him as the 3rd.Dual female lead roles - nice. (weren't there supposed to be three main characters though?)

Gaf proving why game designers never make their female characters look older.

This is from another thread but I'm just going to quote it here:
I do wonder how the small group that liked RE6 feel about this game. Man the news are just great for me. I loved RE:R

It worked pretty well in the original revelaitons.
Asides from the parker flashbacks.
Lets see some gameplay first.
Realism....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ofRM_v6X94 We hit the point of ridiculous by re3. These stories were never very good in terms of storytelling.Claire and Leon survive Racoon City only to run into each other at some random airport in all of United States where a zombie attack just had to happen at that specific time. I couldn't really stomach Degeneration and it kind of staled RE for me.
I might still get this, but the storylines are getting ridiculous now imo. I really enjoyed the classics for the realism (relatively) and detail they presented in storytelling.

Yea we all know co-op games can never have any depth oh wait...some of the best games of from the past generation are co-op. So in what world does co-op automatically=dumb downed design for games that we haven't even seen gameplay of? And it's not like resident evil is among some of the most complex games of all time."Co-op" means "dumbed-down design", which means there's no possible way this game could in any way be a "return to its roots".
Not giving up on this game altogether, but I won't be fooled into getting excited about it. It'll likely be another average game like the first Revelations.
I do wonder how the small group that liked RE6 feel about this game. Man the news are just great for me. I loved RE:R

Because everything has to be designed around the possibility that your partner is the lowest-common-denominator player. That eliminates any possibility of complex level design or puzzles. The single-player experience cannot be as good as it can possibly be, and like Resident Evil 5 and 6, the game starts with one hand tied behind its back.Yea we all know co-op games can never have any depth oh wait...some of the best games of from the past generation are co-op. Co-op was needed in Rev1(you had an AI partner 99% of the game) so fixing that issue is a bonus.
I only really liked Chris' campaign because it knew exactly what it was and wanted to be.I do wonder how the small group that liked RE6 feel about this game. Man the news are just great for me. I loved RE:R
We gave them already like what, 3 chances?

That doesn't mean the game can't be good, but it is not possible for this game to be "return to its roots" in any fashion. Won't get fooled again.
Moira looks really nice. I like her design. She kinda makes up for Rebecca not being here since she has a similar hairstyle and role.
Really looking forward to seeing how this plays in co-op. Would be crazy if the person playing Moira couldn't use guns for some strange reason and you just had to play support the whole time.

Have you played Resident Evil 5 and 6?No it doesn't and even if true is just as applicable to any game, co-op or single player only.
That's the thing is that no it doesn't. People can design a co-op game any way they like. Portal 2 wasn't designed with the lowest common denominator in mind. And with every horror game under the sun having you "face the darkness alone" horror games with co-op are the exception rather than the rule.Because everything has to be designed around the possibility that your partner is the lowest-common-denominator player.
Have you played Resident Evil 5 and 6?
If so, why is it going to be different this time?
There's no reason anymore to give Capcom the benefit of the doubt.

That is irrelevant. Capcom didn't make Portal 2. A company with a positive track record did. That's the thing is that no it doesn't. People can design a co-op game any way they like. RE5's entire dumbed-down level and game design revolved around the decision to be co-op. "Puzzles" are one character stands by a lever while the other one does, and then you flip them at the same time. And then you have the level design, which is a straight line, eliminating any possibility of exploration because, well, your partner may not want to do that. Even a linear game like RE4 gives you much more of a chance to go down different paths, backtrack a bit. RE5 is all about you (and by extension, your partner) constantly moving forward unabated.Yes, and by and large the issues I had with those games had little, if anything, to do with the co-op.

Isn't that kinda how singleplayer games are designed these days? We have a ton of games with extremely linear level design and really simple puzzle design. I don't think coop has anything to do with it.Because everything has to be designed around the possibility that your partner is the lowest-common-denominator player. That eliminates any possibility of complex level design or puzzles. The single-player experience cannot be as good as it can possibly be, and like Resident Evil 5 and 6, the game starts with one hand tied behind its back.
The games are objectively more fun that way.Oh for fuck's sake Capcom ENOUGH with co-op and partner characters in Resident Evil.

EDIT: To be fair, the first Revelations was "Classic RE for dummies" and it was single-player, so I suppose co-op can't make it that much worse. Still, any hope of this game being an improvement over the average Revelations is slim.
I just feel bad for anyone who gets suckered by the "Return to its roots" comment for like, what now, the 4th straight game?
Capcom definitely has a positive track record. The gameplay of re5 is not bad. And re6 has a lot of depth aswell. But this is seemingly like re4+stealth elements and a playable Ashley. That is irrelevant. Capcom didn't make Portal 2. A company with a positive track record did.
So it's The Last Resident Evil of Us? I'm ok with this.
I'm being completely honest here, classic RE is trash. I'll even go as far as to say the only reason they're so beloved is because there was no benchmark for scary tension back then. Today, there's just not a lot that can be done to freak players out so the focus is placed on the gameplay, i.e. where the games were most lacking.Have you played Resident Evil 5 and 6?

Pre-RE4 love is nostalgia, period.
If you ignore the past several years, then yeah, they are on a roll.Capcom definitely has a positive track record.
The design of both games is as shallow as a bird pool. The gameplay of re5 is not bad. And re6 has a lot of depth aswell.
That's the thing. My point isn't that the co-op is bad. All I'm saying is that when co-op is your design focus, the single-player will inevitably suffer. That's just reality.I found RE5 Co-op to be excellent. I don't think my friend and I have come close to such a great experience yet.
