"SONIC IS IN DANGER OF NOT BEING COOL. THAT'S WHY SALES ARE DOWN. WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE HIM COOL."

Yeah sonic died a long time ago, fans of the series may as well get used to it. The last genuinely good sonic game came out in 1994 and even that is up for heavy debate.

This new one looks nice sure, but it plays even worse then sonic adventure 1 did and I doubt any issues with that demo will be fixed so I stand by my position that this game will be crap in a basket.

Sonic and his Shitty Friends isn't Sega taking a risk. They're appealing to the same crowd that bought Shadow the Hedgehog because it's real easy money.

Also, Sonic Mega Collection hit 1,000,000 on the GC too. Good taste FTW.

Right so there's a market for both -- and obviously Sega is producing both.

Isn't this Wild Fire Secret Rings or whatever the **** it's called more of the orignal games? And isn't the new game for 360-PS3 more of the adventureish games?

Yeah, they've just been making TONS of old-school style Sonic games lately.

Oh wait...no they haven't!

Isn't Sonic Rush the advanced series and the new game for Wii hold an old school feeling to it?

You know, looking at all of this controversy. The different sides of those who are for Wii's controls/system or against it. You just get this strong feeling of how it was when DS was about to come out. I remember the same complaints. The same "Nintendo is making a mistake" and those supposedly "loyal" to Nintendo talking about giving up their "jackets". It'll be nice to see whether Wii succeeds or fails, then these senseless debates will cease to function. Just like with the DS. IT'S A NEW CONTROLLER MECHANISM. You're either going to love the controls or hate them

Thank you gamergirly, but the Red Steel discussion is in another thread.

DUDE HIS HEAD IS HUGE, NO WONDER THE CHICK IS ALL OVER HIM.

Seriously his eyes, if assumed to be spherical, are ****ing basketballs.

I take it some of the slow people around here don't recall sonic could speak and interact with humans in sonic adventure 1.

It wasn't "zomg my life is over" then and it isn't now.

Lol the rings is pretty hyped, im gonna lmfao if his friends are in it too :P

the real way sonic should be is sonic rush, too bad there arent any next-gen handhelds...
i still like this game, and i dunno what the hell that junior member comment is about, im an individual with my own opinion, junior member or not -_-

btw, :lol :lol :lol :lol at the photoshops on page 2.

Is something wrong with your eyes? I can understand the hate, but, the scale is fine. Its quite obvious that the chick Sonic is holding, is bigger than he is...that and the angle of the shot makes him look larger. If you want scale problems, see Silent Hill for the PSP.

did any of you play sonic adventure? i dont get it. sonic adventure had human NPCs too. hello?
Humans yes, but they were more anime styled (girls at the pool mostly) and station square and mystic ruins are not real locations :P

This is just extreme.

oh god now your just grasping for straws, if Sonic Adventure was redone it would take this style as well.

He was half their height, he didn't look like he weighed 250 pounds, and they were very stylized. And they were fictional locations.

I take it some of the slow people around here haven't seen the redesigned Robotnik. If you want a clear view of the change Sega made to their human designs, start there.

...Yes. Because Sega sucks now.

Sonic & Knuckles wasn't good?!?!?????????????????????????

In Sonic Adventure, Sonic was relatively short, and the humans were a bit animey/cartoony and the city slightly fantasy based.

SA2 was when shit started to get bad with 'Mr President', Paris, London and so forth. An entirely san francisco based stage, meshing with the likes of Pumpkin Hill showed that whoever was in charge of overall Art Design had flown the coop. Oh, and he had, Ohshima to go waddle into Artoon.

Fast forward to 2006 and the development teams focus of "what if sonic was in a realistic world!" and the fans response of "what if you stopped having really ****ing awful ideas!". I even enjoyed Sonic X as it at least bothered to sort of add to the mythos as to why there are "suddenly humans", by having Sonic and co warped to the human world. Even then, since it was an anime cartoon, the styles didnt clash.

But oh look, pasting Sonic the Hedgehog onto a scene belonging in a live action romantic comedy appears to have had dire results! WHO'DA THUNK ITS.

the demo of this game blew, but im not suprised. There hasn't been a good Sonic game in like 10 years. Take away the nostalgia and it might as well be a franchise on the level of Army Men.

I often wonder why Nintendo doesn't take risks with their Mario franchise offering something new in maybe terms of story and new design and what not. I mean no one would bitch about the gameplay because Nintendo can do it right...yet it's the same thing over and over and over, I'm kinna glad Sonic's not like that in a way, though I really think they should tighten their gameplay, otherwise I always like that Sonic Team at least tries something new.

They did. It was called Super Mario Sunshine. Now let's never speak of it again.

The Adventure type games sold very well on the Gamecube. And thus it makes sense that the adventure game is on the Xbox/PS3 and not on the Wii..

err not really. that doesnt make sense to me. Regardless ill be renting this. (and probably will regret renting it)

...you call that something "new" I meant in terms of design and story. Super Mairo RPG was still one of the most enjoyable Mairo games just from the pure essence of the characters and enviorment mixed with a bit of Mario here and there.

You know what I'm getting at.

Plenty of people bitched when Mario Sunshine eliminated all of the visual variety from the older games. The complaints weren't just from GAF fanboys, either. It was a common mention in reviews for the game.

Also, Mario Bros Movie.

And next-gen Sonic doesn't have great, focused gameplay to fall back on. It has crappy gameplay split across a bunch of pointless characters. The shitty environments and themes are just icing on the cake.

Yea, but SMRPG's environment actually fit Mario. They didn't try to take scenes from Independence Day and slap Mario in them, complete with giant head and hands.

Yeah this is way cooler than, say, Mario Galaxy. It's totally sweet. And by that I mean it is awesome. Hell yeah, Sega.

I remember when SonicTeam were so daring they didnt make Sonic games for a whole generation. Oh but shit, look its the annual Sonic the Hedgehog outing. In time for CHRISTMAS you say? Wow, what fortune smiles down upon them that this has worked out somehow in their favour.

Oh and since we're all about originality, I'm mildly concerned Sonic's own gameplay hasnt changed since SA2, and that there is an entire SA1 remixed stage in here under the name Wave Ocean (oh its actually Emerald Coast lol) and that Iblis is a lava Perfect Chaos, Mephiles is a greyscale Shadow. But hot diggidy damn are they PUSHING THE VERY BOUNDRIES OF LIQUID HOT INNOVATION here. Can't rush them too fast!

This looks like it'll be...something. Sonic Wii seems like the ticket more at this point.

Why God, why won't Sega revisit Sonic CD?

I am a huge Sonic fan. I own every console Sonic (no handheld ones except Sonic Advance and Rush) in original form. I have Sonic HEROES (possibly the crappiest Sonic ever, but I bought it for 5 bucks).

But Sega put in a good amount of twists into CD. Especially the Past/Present/Future.

Imagine Sonic Adventure CD. I would kill a man to play it.

Mario is on vacation and he's framed for a crime he didn't commit. He has to clear his name and expose the impostor. Meanwhile he gets a sidekick that changed the gameplay (into a buddy-platformer). Then, at the end, his friend DIES and we see an "emotional" scene between mario and FLUDD. Total. Shit.

Also, there was voice acting, which should've never been anywhere near the game at any point in the game ever.

Anyway, Mario Galaxy, oddly enough- looks like it simultaneously breaks from the norm, while retaining what made Mario great. It's MARIO IN SPACE, but the design of the enemies and planets are traditionally Mario. And it looks fantastic.

I still can't get over how Cristopher is saying that Mario hasn't broken out of the same routine, when SM64->SMS->SMG are clear departures from each other. As you said, Sonic isn't doing a damn thing new since 1999.
