You do know there are multiple paths and different attacks right? Playing like dude might get you through the level but you'll never get an A or S rank doing that. Your basically judging the game based on how one person plays it. Someone needs to find a video of this level done right.

that video communicates why i still like 3d sonic games...when they actually let you play as sonic. the exploration and planning and twitch skill of finding optimal routes and executing them smoothly. the mechanics have changed, but it essentially captures the fun of the 2d games.

But the shortest path in the demo is all homing attacks. In fact, when you take the shortest path your either:

-on rails
-flying in the air through those rainbow loops
-bouncing off of bouncers

You do run a bit along the wall...but that's it (and the physics for that are faked).

Sorry guys, the game isn't a basic running 2d platformer anymore. QQ The world looks vast, huge, and beautiful. I love the colors. The game play to me looks real fun, I love the interaction with the world and physics. There's always been humans in the games, and in all the animated series'. There's been pink female hedgehogs. Just be glad, it isn't an epic love story, where sonic is making out with a female hedgehog. All of you bashers actually remind me of the ps3 exclusive game criticizers. But, getting the perfect combination of a fast time, number of rings and kills was driving me nuts. I now know exaxtly what to do but its still hard to pull off.

Only one kill was from a homing attack, F4F, and that was only to knock the bridge down like in the video I posted. The slide is much more effective and it doesn't slow you down. Also, if you just grind the rails in the begining your missing out on a lot of rings.

Well you are better Sonic than I because it took me at least 20-30 plays to get it. Did you speed through or did you go for kills and rings?

You need to do a bit of both. The big thing to remember is to keep a combo going, it's different from the previous Sonic games where it just rewarded you once in a while for a trick ramp or perfect ring line. Now, as long as you keep doing things, even small tasks (like light dashing ring lines), it adds up the combos.

It's even a little abusable in the demo, sometimes you can get multiple credits for the same ring line if you break away or manage to light dash a second time in the same ring line.


I grabbed this the other night, it's actually rather similar to that girl's speedrun posted before, since that's pretty much the shortest route. But it should give you an idea of what I mean:

I will say that the camera is... subtly better than previous installments. That sound ridiculous, and it's slow as hell when you have to fix it, but in most of the previous Sonic 3D games, even when you knew the level well, you still had to fiddle with the camera every now and then. At least in this demo, I didn't have to mess with the camera once, and I could pretty much always see where I was going.

Thanks. I do like the original music, it's just nice to be able to listen to something different once in a while. I was kind of limited in choice to what was preloaded on my 360, since I didn't want to hook it up to stream at the time.

There's a shorter route...but it's only shaved off a half second off the other route.

The game is not great, but that's just straight up false. The homing attack is not automatic anymore. You have to push the stick towards objects you want to hit rather than mashing the button. The game isn't easy for those unfamiliar with it, unfortunately, but the control is not random or broken (at least the running segments). That f*cking snowboard is a piece of sh*t, though.

Indeed. Worst thing about the game next to the load-times.
Oh and Sonic Team just needs to drop everything and develop a full-on Chao Garden game. It'd be the best thing since Nights Into Dreams.

I'm only saying this because in the "Crisis City" stage(Apocalyptic city crap stage) I ran across a road-sign that said "Chao Garden" and it made me sad.
